Originally published January 22, 2026. The headline offers were a 15-inch M3 MacBook Air for $999, a higher-memory version for $1,099, and Apple Watch bands discounted by roughly 20%–30%. Those figures are historical deal prices; inventory, sellers, colors, taxes, shipping and return terms may be different now. Check the retailer listing before buying.
The original roundup is available at 9to5Mac.
The two MacBook Air deals
| Configuration | Historical price | Published comparison | Seller and condition noted |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15-inch M3, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD, Midnight | $999 | $500 below a comparable M4 configuration; $800 below its original price | New unit sold through Expercom, described by the article as an authorized Apple dealer, with Amazon fulfillment |
| 15-inch M3, 24GB memory, 512GB SSD, Starlight | $1,099 | $800 below its original price | New unit sold through Expercom, with Amazon fulfillment |
Amazon fulfillment does not necessarily mean Amazon was the seller. On the product page, confirm the named seller, whether the machine is new rather than renewed or open-box, Apple warranty eligibility, and the applicable return policy. Expercom’s site is expercom.com; Apple’s current MacBook Air lineup and direct-buy options are at apple.com/macbook-air and Apple’s store.
Is an M3 MacBook Air still a good buy?
It can be, but the discount—not the model name alone—determines the value. The $999 16GB/512GB configuration was compelling for buyers who wanted a large-screen Mac for everyday work without paying for the newest generation.
Choose the discounted M3 when
- Your work is mainly web browsing, office or school applications, video calls, coding, and light creative projects.
- You want 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage at a substantial discount.
- The equivalent current-generation model costs materially more after matching screen size, memory and storage.
- You expect long battery life and do not need a newer processor feature, display capability, connection standard or resale profile.
Pay more for the newer generation when
- The price gap is small after comparing identical configurations.
- You plan to keep the Mac for many years and value the newest supported features and longer runway for operating-system support.
- Your workload involves sustained video production, software builds, large data sets or other tasks where newer hardware features can matter.
- You care about maximizing future resale value.
The roundup compared the $999 M3 with an M4 equivalent that was regularly around $1,399 after Apple’s stated price adjustment. That is useful context, not a permanent price rule. Compare like with like: a cheaper M4 with less memory or storage is not an equivalent offer.

MacBook Air checkout checklist
- Match the 15-inch screen, memory and SSD capacity against the current model.
- Check whether the listing says new, renewed, refurbished or open-box.
- Identify the actual seller; fulfillment by a marketplace does not establish who stands behind the sale.
- Verify Apple warranty eligibility using the serial number or purchase documentation.
- Read the seller’s return window, restocking rules and support process.
- Allow for sales tax and location-dependent shipping.

Compatibility and sizing
Apple Watch Ultra cases use the 49mm case class. Apple’s compatibility table should be the authority, but Apple generally groups 44mm and 45mm bands with the larger Ultra fit. Confirm the exact listing before ordering. S/M and M/L describe wrist circumference, not the watch case size; measure your wrist using Apple’s sizing instructions.
Pick the band by activity
- Ocean Band: Elastomer construction suited to swimming and repeated water exposure; easier to rinse and dry than textile designs.
- Trail Loop: Lightweight, hook-and-loop construction with fine adjustment for running and daily wear.
- Alpine Loop: A secure textile design aimed at outdoor use.
- Sport Band: A straightforward everyday option and usually the least expensive Apple choice.
- Milanese Loop: A metal-mesh style option for appearance; less suitable for high-impact activity or heavy water use.
Check authenticity when buying through a marketplace. A listing can use Apple’s product name while supplying a third-party substitute. Also check return restrictions for worn personal accessories.

More deals mentioned in the roundup
These were secondary items and are also dated January 22, 2026; none should be treated as currently available without a fresh check:
- M4 Mac mini models advertised at up to $110 off.
- Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery listed at $79 versus $99. Apple said it could provide up to 65% additional charge to iPhone Air and up to 12W wireless charging; those are Apple’s claims, not independent test results.
- Anker docking stations and GaN chargers.
- USB-C Magic Mouse, AirTags, MagSafe cables and Apple Watch magnetic charging cables.
- USB-C AirPods Max.
- Best Buy open-box Magic Keyboards for M4/M5 iPad Pro and a “Prep for Playoffs Super Bowl” sale.
For comparison shopping, use Apple’s direct store, Amazon’s Apple storefront or Best Buy’s Apple destination, and separate new products from open-box inventory. Nomad’s Apple Watch range is at nomadgoods.com; third-party bands should not be assumed equivalent to Apple’s materials, fit or warranty.

How to avoid a misleading deal
- Old reference prices: An $800 reduction from a launch price may overstate the saving versus the current street price.
- Expired or incomplete listings: A live page may have lost the exact color, size or configuration that created the original deal.
- Marketplace differences: Seller identity, condition, warranty, shipping and returns can change when another seller is selected.
- Open-box is not new: Best Buy open-box products may be attractive, but inspect the stated condition and coverage separately.
- Regional costs: The listed prices were US-dollar figures and may exclude tax or vary by delivery location.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The January 22, 2026 $999 15-inch M3 MacBook Air was the standout value if the same configuration was genuinely new and still far cheaper than the current equivalent. Buy the newer generation when the gap narrows or long-term features matter more. For bands, choose Ocean for water, Sport for general use, Trail for adjustable workouts and Alpine for secure outdoor wear—after confirming 49mm compatibility and wrist size.
