Daniel Ek’s Neko Health Body-Scan Clinic Opens in New York

Daniel Ek’s preventive-health startup Neko Health opened its first U.S. clinic in New York on September 24, 2026. The SoHo clinic, at 300 Lafayette Street, offers a roughly 60-minute assessment that combines skin imaging, cardiovascular checks, body-composition analysis, blood tests and a clinician review. Neko announced a price of $499; that is a substantial out-of-pocket expense, and the company’s launch materials do not establish that health insurance covers it.

What Neko Health offers at its New York clinic

Neko Health was co-founded by Daniel Ek, whom the company identifies as Spotify’s founder, and Hjalmar Nilsonne. Rather than an MRI or conventional radiology scan, Neko describes its service as a clinic-based assessment that combines several measurements and tests with a clinician discussion. The company says a visit takes around 60 minutes and is non-invasive and radiation-free.

Neko’s September 2026 opening announcement describes the appointment as including:

  • A 360-degree skin examination using 6,000 images, according to Neko.
  • A cardiovascular assessment.
  • Body-composition analysis.
  • On-site blood testing focused on more than 50 biomarkers, according to Neko.
  • A clinician discussion to review results and plan next steps.

The component counts and service description are company-reported. Neko’s July 2026 announcement also mentioned wearables integration, but the reviewed materials do not identify compatible devices or say whether customers need to bring one. Check Neko’s current compatibility details rather than assuming a particular watch or tracker will work.

Where it is, when it opened and what it costs

Neko first announced plans for a New York clinic and a U.S. waitlist on January 14, 2026. On August 18, it named 300 Lafayette Street in SoHo, announced a September 24 opening and set the scan price at $499. On September 24, the company said the clinic had opened for bookings. Address, availability and price can change, so confirm them in current booking details before making plans.

Neko’s U.S. homepage mentions HSA/FSA eligibility, but the reviewed launch information does not establish health-insurance coverage. Check directly with the clinic and your plan about payment and eligibility; do not assume that a health plan will reimburse the appointment.

What the launch figures do—and do not—show

Neko reported more than 300,000 global sign-ups when it announced the U.S. plan in January 2026, and more than 25,000 New Yorkers on its waitlist in August. At the September opening, it said more than 100,000 members had experienced scans in Sweden and the UK. The company also reported that 75% of members booked and prepaid for a second scan at the end of their first appointment, and 80% booked a third after their second.

Those figures describe interest and repeat bookings as reported by Neko. They do not show whether the scans improve health outcomes, how accurately they identify particular conditions, or whether routine scanning benefits a given person. The available official launch materials establish what the company says it offers, not independent clinical validation.

How to weigh a $499 preventive assessment

Before paying, consider what question you want the appointment to answer and what would happen if it flags something. A clinician’s review is part of the described visit, but an unusual measurement or test result is not automatically a diagnosis; it needs interpretation in the context of your health and, where appropriate, follow-up evaluation.

  • Clarify the intended use. Ask which findings the assessment is designed to detect and what its limits are for your situation.
  • Ask about follow-up. Find out who explains results, whether referrals or further tests are included, and what additional care may cost.
  • Compare like with like. If weighing this against another assessment, compare the measurements and tests, clinician involvement, location, price, evidence for the intended use and follow-up process—not just the number of readings or images.
  • Check payment before booking. Confirm the current price and ask your insurer and the clinic whether any part is eligible for reimbursement or an HSA/FSA payment.

In a January 23, 2025 report about Neko’s earlier fundraising, Axios summarized broader debate about preventive full-body scanning, including questions about cost and effectiveness and whether broad screening scans are recommended for asymptomatic people by professional medical organizations. That report predates Neko’s U.S. launch and is not a current clinical guideline or an assessment of Neko’s specific service. The available evidence here does not establish Neko-specific accuracy or health benefits.

Expansion plans and funding

Neko announced a $700 million Series C on July 15, 2026. In its August announcement, it said it planned more New York locations and a Miami clinic later in 2026, followed by Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. Those were company plans, not confirmation that the sites opened; check current location listings for their status.

Daniel Ek said in Neko’s September 24 opening announcement: “Hjalmar and I have talked about bringing Neko to America since the earliest days of the company because if you want to change healthcare at scale, the U.S. has to be part of that ambition,” That is the co-founder’s statement of the company’s ambition, not evidence of clinical impact.
