Current combines U.S. mobile banking features with a secured Build Card designed to report payment activity to the three major credit bureaus. The card has no annual fee or credit check to apply, but it is funded from money in your Current account, and other fees may apply. Its credit reporting can help establish payment history; it does not guarantee a particular score increase.
What is Current, and what accounts does it offer?
Current describes itself as a mobile financial service available to customers in the United States. Personal accounts include a debit card or Build Card, three Savings Pods, and access to features such as early direct deposit, Paycheck Advance and Fee-Free Overdraft for eligible customers. See Current’s What’s Current? and account types FAQ.
Current says eligible customers may receive direct deposits up to two days early, depending on the employer or payment provider. Paycheck Advance is advertised up to $750 for eligible customers, while Fee-Free Overdraft applies only to eligible transactions. These are conditional features, not guaranteed amounts or access. Current says Paycheck Advance is provided by Finco Advance LLC, a financial technology company rather than a bank; see its account-agreement summary.
How does the Build Card work?
Current describes the Build Card as a secured credit card linked to the customer’s available Current spending balance. Unlike a card that requires funds to be locked in a separate security-deposit account, the Build Card draws on the account’s available money. Current says it sets aside Reserved Funds to cover the outstanding card balance.

Current says AutoPay can pay the balance twice monthly from Reserved Funds, and manual payment is also available. The company says it reports payments to TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Its explanation of the card is in the Build Card FAQ.
What the reporting can—and cannot—do
Reporting payment activity to the bureaus is a feature, not a promise of a score increase. Credit scores can reflect payment history, utilization, length of credit history and other financial activity. Current’s Build Card disclosures describe those factors, but no typical score gain is established here. Paying on time may support a positive payment history; it cannot ensure that a score will rise by a certain number of points.

What does Current cost?
Current says the Build Card has no annual fee and no credit check to apply. That does not mean every transaction or service is free. Its disclosures list potential fees including the following; check the live card disclosures and agreement for the applicable terms, since fee schedules can change.
- Out-of-network ATM: $2.50 per transaction.
- Late payment: 3% of the total due balance if it remains past due for two or more billing cycles.
- Foreign transactions: 3% of the transaction amount, with a $0.50 minimum.
- Other possible charges: card replacement or reorder, cash deposits, and third-party processing may incur fees.
How do Savings Pods and Boost work?
Current’s Savings Pods offer a variable bonus rather than interest paid by a bank. Current’s Boost Terms and Conditions, last updated July 23, 2025, state: “The Boost feature is provided by Current, which is a financial technology company, not a bank.” The terms distinguish Boost from both financial-institution interest and a savings-account product. See the Boost terms and Savings page.

Current’s materials describe a variable annual bonus rate up to 4.00% for qualifying Savings Pods and a 0.25% base bonus rate. The described qualification requires at least $200 in eligible payroll deposits during the preceding 35-day period. The bonus applies only to up to $2,000 in each pod and $6,000 total. Current pays the bonus. Rates, eligibility and limits can change, so verify the current offer and terms before relying on a return.

Who may find Current useful?
- Potential fit: someone seeking a U.S. mobile account with a secured card that uses available account funds and reports payment activity to all three major bureaus.
- Less suitable if: you need a card with a separate revolving credit line independent of your deposit balance, or you expect credit reporting alone to produce a guaranteed score improvement.
- Check first: the exact fee schedule, eligibility for advance or overdraft features, and the current Boost rate and requirements.
