A crypto promo code or signup bonus is not a promise of instantly spendable money. The offer’s specific terms determine who qualifies, what action counts, when a reward arrives, whether it is locked, and what withdrawals can do to it. Read those details before depositing, buying, trading, or referring someone.
Start with the offer rules, not its label
“Promo code,” “new user incentive,” “referral bonus,” and “deposit match” describe marketing formats, not a standard set of conditions. An offer may require enrollment, identity verification, a first purchase, a certain amount of trading, a qualifying deposit, or actions by both the referrer and the referred customer. Treat each campaign as its own contract-like set of rules, and check the terms that apply to your country and account.
For example, Coinbase’s help terms say that eligibility and requirements can vary and that some incentives require a qualifying deposit or purchase. A Kraken campaign that ended December 4, 2025, required a new consumer account, verification, and qualifying spot trades. That past campaign illustrates one possible structure; it does not show that the offer is available now. Coinbase new-user incentive terms · Kraken dated US$50 BTC campaign rules
Check eligibility before taking action
Look for the eligible country or region, customer type, account type, verification requirements, enrollment steps, and exclusions. Confirm whether the offer is for new customers only, whether you must enter a code or opt in, and whether one person or account can claim it once. A promotion may be unavailable to you even if its page is visible.

Pin down the qualifying action and amount
“Deposit” and “trade” are not interchangeable. Check whether the trigger is one purchase, total purchases, a deposit, net deposits after withdrawals, spot-trade volume, or a referred customer’s activity. Also look for excluded transactions, such as certain trading products or transfers.

- One purchase versus accumulated purchases: The Coinbase U.S. campaign page says a single first purchase below US$50 does not qualify, and multiple smaller purchases adding up to US$50 do not satisfy that specific offer. The threshold and rule belong to that campaign.
- Trading activity: Kraken’s U.S. campaign ending December 4, 2025, required at least US$100 in qualifying spot trades. Its rules excluded futures, margin, staking, and certain other activities. This is a dated example, not a current general requirement.
- Net deposits: A deposit requirement may be reduced by withdrawals or outbound transfers during the qualification window. Coinbase states: “Your qualifying deposit is measured on a net basis: withdrawals or outbound transfers made during the qualification period reduce the amount treated as a qualifying deposit.”
Do not assume activity counts just because it appears in your account history. Compare the transaction type and calculation method in the offer’s rules with the action you plan to take. Coinbase new-user incentive terms · Kraken dated US$50 BTC campaign rules
Map every deadline and holding period
Promotions can have several different clocks. Identify the enrollment deadline, offer period, time allowed to qualify, reward-crediting delay, and any later hold or installment schedule. “Complete the action” and “receive usable funds” may be separated by weeks.

Coinbase’s help page says some incentives are credited after qualification within approximately 45 days, unless the offer specifies otherwise. Kraken’s dated campaign rules stated that its reward would be credited within 14 business days after eligibility and qualifying trades were verified. These are provider- and offer-specific timings, not universal payout promises. Coinbase new-user incentive terms · Kraken dated US$50 BTC campaign rules
Then check whether a holding period starts when the reward is credited, when the qualifying action is completed, or at another point. Coinbase describes offers in which rewards can be held or released in installments; its help page says held bonus funds cannot be withdrawn or sent off-platform until released. Separate the advertised reward from its usable value
Find out what the reward actually is: cryptocurrency, fiat, or a stated-value equivalent. If it is crypto, check which asset is delivered and when its value is determined. Coinbase warns that a digital asset’s value may rise or fall after it is credited, so the advertised dollar amount is not necessarily the amount you could realize later.
On the Coinbase U.S. campaign page accessed October 4, 2026, the described Bitcoin reward ranged from US$10 to US$2,000; the page stated that 99% of users received US$10–US$100 and 1% received US$1,000 or US$2,000. Those figures describe the stated odds and reward range for that particular campaign page, not a typical crypto bonus or a promise of a particular amount. Coinbase U.S. promotional offer

Understand withdrawals, balance rules, and clawbacks
Before moving money, determine whether the terms require you to maintain a minimum net qualifying balance and what happens if you withdraw, transfer assets off-platform, close or change the account, or fall below a threshold. Depending on the offer, an outflow may reduce the qualifying amount, delay or prevent a reward, or lead to a reward being revoked or recovered.
Coinbase’s incentive terms describe the possibility of withholding, denying, revoking, or recovering a reward if its minimum qualifying balance is not maintained. Kraken’s deposit-match FAQ describes a reward hold and a possible chargeback if withdrawals take the portfolio below the qualifying net-deposit level. Those are separate offer structures; check the one that governs your campaign. Coinbase new-user incentive terms · Kraken October deposit-match FAQ
Ask two practical questions before enrolling: “What happens to my deposits after the promotion period ends?” and “What happens if I withdraw funds?” The answer may differ for the deposit itself and for the promotional reward. A credited reward can remain locked even when your own deposited funds are available, or a withdrawal can affect whether you keep the bonus.

Why old campaign pages need a date
Promotional pages can remain searchable after an offer ends, and providers can vary terms by location, customer, and campaign. Coinbase states: “Eligibility and terms vary by region, customer and campaign.” Kraken’s example campaign had a stated end date of December 4, 2025, so it should be read as an illustration of how a past offer worked, not as evidence of a live promotion.
