Yes—Micron exited the Crucial consumer business. It said Crucial shipments through consumer channels would continue until the end of fiscal Q2 in February 2026. That was the shipment cutoff, not a date when every retailer’s remaining stock disappeared. Micron also said it would continue warranty service and support, but a replacement may not be available for every claim.

What was discontinued—and when?

On December 3, 2025, Micron announced that it would exit the Crucial consumer business worldwide, including sales through retailers, e-tailers and distributors. The company said shipments to consumer channels would continue through the end of fiscal Q2, identified as February 2026. The announcement did not set a universal retail sellout date, so availability after that window depends on the product, seller and market. Micron’s announcement described the Crucial consumer journey as spanning 29 years.

The decision covers Crucial-branded consumer products such as SSDs and RAM. It does not mean Micron stopped making all memory and storage products or supplying components to consumer-device makers. Micron distinguished its consumer-brand exit from continued Micron-branded enterprise sales to commercial customers; later reporting also described supply through OEM channels. TechRadar’s January 2026 report attributed to Micron VP Christopher Moore an estimate that enterprise demand consumed 50% to 60% of overall memory supply. That is an executive estimate reported by TechRadar, not a figure in Micron’s exit announcement.

Why did Micron leave the consumer market?

Micron attributed its decision to surging AI-driven data-center demand for memory and storage. The company said it wanted to improve supply and support for larger strategic customers in faster-growing segments. That is Micron’s stated rationale, not proof that AI demand was the only factor behind the decision. In the announcement, Micron EVP and Chief Business Officer Sumit Sadana said: “The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”

Do Crucial SSD and RAM warranties still apply?

Micron said it would continue warranty service and support for Crucial products. Its support page directs customers with Crucial product questions to a support route. The applicable warranty terms describe possible remedies such as repair, replacement, in-store credit or refund, subject to the product terms and jurisdiction. A support commitment does not guarantee a specific remedy or a like-for-like replacement.

That distinction matters now that products are discontinued. Windows Central reported that an owner of a Crucial X10 Pro 4TB SSD was told replacement stock was unavailable and offered a refund of the original purchase price. Tom’s Hardware also reported a case in which an X9 4TB portable SSD owner was initially told replacement inventory was exhausted. These are individual reports; they do not establish how Micron will resolve every claim. Windows Central’s report and Tom’s Hardware’s report describe those cases.

Should you buy remaining Crucial stock?

Consider a remaining unit only after checking that it suits your system and that the total deal makes sense compared with available alternatives. Stock and terms vary by seller, market and product; no single current inventory or price applies everywhere.

  • Confirm the exact RAM type or SSD interface and form factor your device supports.
  • Review the seller’s return window and identify who handles warranty service.
  • Compare the price with compatible alternatives rather than paying extra simply because a model is discontinued.
  • For a marketplace listing, verify the seller and read the listing’s return and warranty conditions; a product page or search listing does not establish current stock or a uniform warranty route.

If choosing another RAM kit or SSD, compatibility depends on the computer or device. Check its specifications before buying; no one Crucial replacement is universally compatible.
