Hyperliquid says its legacy bridge contract was audited by Zellic, and Zellic’s report records fixes for issues it identified. That history is useful, but it does not establish that the current deployed contract matches the reviewed code or that later changes were audited. This assessment concerns the documented USDC route between Hyperliquid and Arbitrum, not third-party bridges or separate HyperEVM applications.
What the native Hyperliquid bridge does
Hyperliquid’s onboarding documentation describes a native USDC route using Arbitrum: users deposit Arbitrum USDC and withdraw USDC back to Arbitrum. Depositing requires ETH on Arbitrum to pay gas for the transaction. This is distinct from using a community-built HyperEVM application or a third-party bridge, whose contracts and verification methods may differ.
Depositing USDC
Before initiating a deposit, confirm that the sending wallet is on Arbitrum and that the asset is USDC accepted by the native route. A transfer made on the wrong network or with the wrong asset is a user-operation risk; it is not the same failure mode as a bridge-contract exploit. Keep enough Arbitrum ETH in the sending wallet for gas.
Withdrawing USDC
Hyperliquid’s exchange API documentation describes withdrawals as requests submitted through its exchange endpoint. L1 validators then sign and send the withdrawal request to the bridge contract. The API documentation lists a $1 withdrawal fee and an approximate five-minute finalization time “at the time of this writing.” These are changeable operational figures, not guarantees: check the live fee and expected processing time before relying on them.

Which trust assumptions matter
A cross-chain transfer relies on more than the code that moves tokens. For this route, the relevant questions include who authorizes withdrawals, what code is deployed, how the system behaves during an emergency, and whether the user’s wallet and network selection are correct.
| Risk area | What the available documentation establishes | What it means for a user |
|---|---|---|
| Validator authorization | Zellic’s report describes withdrawal and validator-set-change requests requiring signatures from a two-thirds majority of validators, followed by a dispute period. Hyperliquid’s staking documentation defines a quorum as more than two-thirds of total network stake. | Signatures are a security mechanism, but authorization still depends on validator keys, availability, coordination and honest behavior. The report’s validator-count threshold and the staking documentation’s stake-weighted quorum are different descriptions; they should not be treated as interchangeable. |
| Validator concentration and operations | Hyperliquid says its active validator set is the top 24 validators by stake. The sources reviewed do not quantify current stake concentration. | Consider concentration, key security, outages, collusion, censorship and incident response. The published set size alone does not show how much stake is controlled by any operator or group. |
| Contract scope and upgrades | Hyperliquid’s audit index calls the Zellic-assessed contract the “legacy bridge.” Current deployed-bytecode mapping and subsequent audit coverage are not established by that index and report. | An audit applies to defined code, not automatically to every deployment or later upgrade. Without a verified mapping from the live contract to reviewed code, the audit history cannot settle the present deployment’s code-level risk. |
| Pause and recovery | Zellic reported a historical issue involving a pending operation that could remain executable after a pause and validator rotation. Its report says contributors implemented a fix in commit 8c4a182a. |
The report records remediation in code, but the commit reference by itself does not verify that the fix is present in the current deployment. |
| Wallet and transaction handling | Hyperliquid support says unauthorized activity may indicate a compromised key and recommends abandoning the affected address and moving remaining assets. | Phishing, stolen keys and wrong-network transfers are separate loss paths. A bridge audit does not protect a wallet whose signing key has been compromised. |
| Underlying chains and cross-chain design | Ethereum.org’s general bridge guidance identifies smart-contract, systemic financial, counterparty, congestion, attack and state-rollback risks. | Bridge risk also depends on how transfers are verified, how finality works, supported networks, fees and the response to emergencies—not only on whether a contract has an audit. |
What Zellic’s findings do—and do not—show
Hyperliquid’s audit index states that “The Hyperliquid legacy bridge contract has been audited by Zellic.” The word “legacy” matters: the statement identifies an audited contract scope, but does not by itself establish that the current Arbitrum deployment is byte-for-byte the same version, that all upgrades were reviewed, or that the bridge cannot fail.

Zellic’s report describes the reviewed system’s validator authorization and dispute period, and records several issues with contributor-reported remediation. Among them were a missing check for an existing withdrawal request that could enable griefing through finalization; signatures that did not include the contract or token address, creating maintenance or replay risk if logic were reused; and unchecked transferFrom return values. The report lists remediation commits for these issues. These are historical findings and reported fixes, not evidence that those issues are currently exploitable—or that every fix is deployed.
The report also says a pending operation could survive a pause and validator rotation, potentially remaining executable after unpausing. It records that contributors acknowledged the issue and implemented a fix in commit 8c4a182a. As with the other reported remediations, deployment status needs separate confirmation.

How to assess the route before using it
- Confirm you are using the native route. Check Hyperliquid’s current onboarding instructions and distinguish its Arbitrum USDC bridge from third-party routes and HyperEVM applications.
- Verify the transaction details. Confirm the source network is Arbitrum, the token is the supported USDC, the destination is the intended account, and the wallet has ETH for deposit gas.
- Check current withdrawal conditions. Verify the displayed fee, expected processing time and any current operational notices rather than relying on figures in older documentation.
- Look for current contract and audit evidence. For a code-level assessment, seek an authoritative current contract address and deployment or upgrade history that can be matched to the audited code, plus evidence of audits covering later changes. The legacy-bridge audit statement alone does not establish that mapping.
- Consider validator and emergency assumptions. Review current validator-set and stake information where available, and understand what pause, dispute and recovery procedures apply. The available sources do not provide a current quantitative breakdown of validator stake concentration.
- Protect the wallet independently. Use a secured wallet, verify transaction details before signing and treat unexpected approvals or activity as possible key compromise. If an address is compromised, Hyperliquid support advises abandoning it and moving remaining assets.
When a bridge comparison is useful
Do not compare routes using audit status or speed alone. A meaningful comparison asks who verifies a transfer and with what threshold; what exact contract version and upgrade history have been reviewed; how long finalization takes and what it costs; which source and destination networks are supported; how pausing and recovery work; and how much risk remains with the user’s wallet and network selection. A route can have favorable performance or an audit history while still depending on operational and code assumptions that matter to the user.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Assessment
The evidence supports a conditional assessment: the native Hyperliquid–Arbitrum bridge has a documented validator-mediated withdrawal process and a Zellic audit history for a contract Hyperliquid labels legacy, with reported fixes for identified issues. It does not establish that the live deployment and upgrade history match the reviewed scope. Treat the bridge as carrying validator, contract, chain, operational and user-wallet risk; do not infer that it is fully audited, trustless or risk-free from the legacy audit statement.
