The company reported more than 225,000 gross square feet across the two sites and positioned the deal as an expansion of its colocation, disaster-recovery and interconnection footprint—not as a disclosed-price transaction.
What Cologix acquired
Cologix described Colo5 as a colocation and disaster-recovery provider serving more than 100 customers, from local businesses to Fortune 500 brands. Those customer and client-profile figures were company-reported in the acquisition announcement. Cologix called the purchase its ninth acquisition; contemporary coverage said it made Lakeland the company’s eighth market overall.
The September 4, 2014 announcement reported more than 225,000 gross square feet combined. Its site-level figures and descriptions were:
| Site | Reported area | Announcement-era description |
|---|---|---|
| Jacksonville, Florida | 125,000 square feet | Cologix described a wholly owned building rated for Category 5 hurricanes, along with associated land. It emphasized the site’s connection to Jacksonville’s carrier and interconnection ecosystem. |
| Lakeland, Florida | 100,000 square feet | Cologix highlighted the site’s position between Tampa and Orlando and reported an elevation of 197 feet above sea level. |
These areas, resilience claims and elevation are statements in Cologix’s 2014 announcement, not current capacity figures or an independent engineering or flood-risk assessment.

Why Cologix said the Florida locations mattered
Jacksonville: carrier access and interconnection
Cologix said the deal linked Colo5’s enterprise data-center operations with its network-neutral interconnection site in Jacksonville’s primary carrier hotel. The company also cited subsea cables landing in Jacksonville from Central and South America. Those points describe Cologix’s rationale for the acquisition; they are not an independent assessment of the market or a guarantee of customer connectivity.
Lakeland: a central Florida location
Cologix presented Lakeland’s location between Tampa and Orlando as a way to extend its Florida presence. Its announcement also cited the site’s 197-foot elevation. That company-reported figure alone does not establish a facility’s flood risk, resilience or suitability for a particular customer.
What the companies said customers could gain
Cologix president and CEO Grant van Rooyen described Colo5 as having “a highly robust and credible set of data center operations,” citing its growing customer list. Colo5 CEO Doug Recker said joining Cologix would give customers benefits the company could not provide on its own.

Recker’s announcement identified three anticipated advantages: access to carrier density at Cologix’s Jacksonville Meet-Me-Room, accelerated capital investment, and access to Cologix data centers across North America. These were executive statements about expected benefits at the time of the deal; they do not independently verify what customers received or what services are available today.

What is known about the sites today
Cologix’s current Jacksonville location page identifies JAX2 at 4800 Spring Park Road as an enterprise-grade data center and disaster-recovery facility. That general description does not establish the site’s present operating specifications or capacity.
The sources cited here do not establish the former Colo5 Lakeland facility’s current ownership, operating status, capacity or service offering. The historical acquisition announcement should not be used to infer that the site remains part of Cologix’s current footprint.
