Coldcart announced an oversubscribed $6.5 million seed round on July 15, 2024, led by Collide Capital. The company sells software to coordinate shipping decisions for frozen and refrigerated products—not simply warehouse space or carrier labels. Its savings figures are company-reported, however, and the announcement did not publish the data or methodology needed to verify them.
What Coldcart announced
The July 15, 2024 announcement said Collide Capital led Coldcart’s oversubscribed $6.5 million seed round. Earlier convertible-note investments were led by Material. Great North Ventures, Behind Genius Ventures, Feld Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and Service Provider Capital also participated. Coldcart said it would use the funds to expand adoption among perishable shippers and logistics providers and strengthen its network. Business Wire’s announcement is the source for the financing details.
Why perishable parcels are hard to ship
Ordinary parcel shipping often centers on price and delivery speed. With temperature-sensitive goods, the shipper must also protect product quality throughout transit. The right combination of warehouse, carrier, service level, insulation, and coolant can change with the product, destination, inventory location, departure date, weather, and carrier availability.
Those choices affect one another. A longer route may require more coolant or a different packout; a weekend in transit can increase spoilage risk; and an available fulfillment location may be farther from the customer than another site with no stock. Frozen food, refrigerated meals, pharmaceuticals, and diagnostic materials can also have different temperature, handling, and validation requirements. A missed delivery or incorrect packout can lead to refunds, replacement shipments, and additional service costs.

Coldcart’s premise is that static shipping rules and disconnected logistics providers make it difficult to optimize these decisions together for each order.
What Coldcart’s platform does
Coldcart describes itself as a logistics-orchestration and optimization platform for perishable parcel operations. It can work with a shipper’s own facilities and providers as well as connected third parties, so it is not necessarily a replacement warehouse or a single 3PL. The company’s How It Works page describes several layers:
Connect orders and operations
The platform integrates with order-management, enterprise resource-planning, and warehouse-management systems. Coldcart says it can also operate without a direct WMS connection and offers custom connectors and integration services. The specific implementation effort will depend on a customer’s systems and workflows.
Choose shipment, route, and packout rules
Coldcart says it evaluates combinations of fulfillment origin, route, carrier, packaging, and coolant using factors such as cost, delivery performance, weather, and provider availability. Customers can configure packout rules and track packaging, insulation, coolant, inserts, and other non-sale materials. Public materials do not explain exactly when or how the platform revises a plan after a label is created or conditions change.

- Economical
- Manufactured with the highest degree of quality and integrity
Coordinate fulfillment and transportation
The platform can generate pick lists and labels, batch orders on configured schedules, and send instructions to fulfillment providers. Coldcart says its operations can support national, regional, and local carriers, along with services such as line hauls, zone skips, injection hubs, cross-docks, kitting, and assembly. Physical execution still depends on the chosen facility and carrier carrying out those instructions correctly.
Monitor orders, inventory, and performance
Coldcart describes views for on-time delivery, network exceptions, orders, inventory, lot codes, and costs across fulfillment, packaging, coolant, and transportation. The goal is to give operators a more consolidated picture than separate warehouse and carrier systems may provide.
How to read Coldcart’s savings and market figures
In its 2024 announcement, Coldcart said the platform could cut perishable-logistics costs by 15% to 50% per shipment and reduce refundable shipments by 40% to 60%. These are company claims, not independently established benchmarks. The announcement does not specify a customer sample, baseline, measurement period, or methodology, so a prospective customer should not assume those results will apply to its own operation.
The release also estimated that U.S. businesses in industrial, food, pharmaceutical, and life-sciences categories shipped about 3 billion perishable parcels in 2023 and spent more than $76 billion on warehousing, packaging, and transportation. It said inefficiency and spoilage-related refunds consumed more than 40% of sales. The release does not define “perishable parcels,” explain the underlying dataset, or clarify the denominator for the 40% figure. These should be treated as Coldcart’s estimates, not independently verified market totals.

For a buyer, the useful comparison is a documented current baseline: transportation, packaging, coolant, warehouse and labor costs, plus refunds, reships, and spoilage. Any proposed savings should be measured against the same shipment mix and service requirements before and after implementation.
Founders and investors
The announcement identified Jason Park as CEO and co-founder and Matt Salzberg, Blue Apron’s founder and former CEO, as co-founder. It described Park as having founded and scaled Allstate Identity Protection; the release’s specific claims about subscriber count and recurring revenue are company-provided biographical figures. Coldcart’s current team page also lists CTO Joe Rohde, Head of Sales Bob LeGere, and Executive Advisor Raymond McCall.
The investor group and the company’s stated expansion plans indicate investor interest in applying software and network coordination to a costly logistics niche. The funding announcement itself does not establish customer retention, unit economics, or the platform’s commercial performance.
What Coldcart says has changed since 2024
The 2024 release described a network of 15 fulfillment centers. Coldcart’s current website, reviewed August 18, 2026, claims 40+ fulfillment locations, access to Coldcart-managed accounts across 16+ carriers, and reach to 99% of U.S. residents within two-day ground delivery. These are current company claims and should not be conflated with the 2024 figures: “locations” and “centers” may not be identical measures, and the newer two-day-ground statement is not the same as the earlier description of delivery within required perishable timeframes.

Who might consider Coldcart
The platform may be relevant to businesses where shipment-level logistics decisions are consequential, particularly:
- Food, beverage, meal-kit, and prepared-meal brands shipping frozen or refrigerated products.
- Pharmacies, diagnostic businesses, and life-sciences operators with temperature-sensitive shipments.
- Companies using multiple warehouses, 3PLs, or carriers and seeking a coordinated view of costs and service.
- Shippers facing meaningful packaging, coolant, refund, reshipment, or spoilage costs.
A low-volume business with a simple, single-carrier workflow may have less to gain from an optimization layer. Companies seeking a fully managed physical fulfillment service should also distinguish that need from software that coordinates facilities and carriers.

How it differs from fulfillment providers
These options address different parts of the shipping problem; a buyer should compare the service being purchased, not just the software claims.
| Option | What it is positioned to provide | Pricing information in the cited materials |
|---|---|---|
| Coldcart | Perishable-logistics orchestration across first-party and third-party facilities, carriers, routing, packouts, and performance data. | No standard public platform price stated on Coldcart’s website; prospects are directed to sales or a demo. |
| ShipBob | Outsourced ecommerce fulfillment, including warehousing, pick-and-pack, shipping, technology, and integrations. | ShipBob’s pricing page says quotes are customized; it describes its software as free for customers while fulfillment and related services carry fees. |
| ColdTrack | Perishable-focused fulfillment and logistics with software, carrier access, order optimization, and pick-and-pack services. | No public pricing stated on the reviewed ColdTrack website. |
In practice, the choice may be between coordinating an existing multi-provider network, outsourcing fulfillment to a provider, or using a hybrid approach. The cited materials do not establish that these services are interchangeable or that one is less expensive for a given shipper.
Where optimization can still fail
Software can improve decisions, but it cannot remove the physical and data risks of perishable shipping. A buyer should test how the system and its providers handle:
Quick Recap
- Changing conditions: Forecasts, heat, freezes, storms, and carrier disruptions can alter a plan. The public materials say weather and real-time factors are considered but do not set out a precise re-planning policy.
- Coverage versus guarantees: A network-level two-day coverage claim does not guarantee delivery time for every product, destination, season, or service level.
- Product-specific packouts: Frozen foods, refrigerated biologics, and ambient-sensitive products may need different validated packaging and handling. A general packout capability is not proof of validation for every product.
- Bad inputs or unavailable inventory: Incorrect weights, dimensions, temperatures, cutoff times, or stock records can undermine recommendations; a cheaper origin is not useful if inventory is short-dated, quarantined, or missing.
- Coolant and calendar constraints: Coolant availability, handling, replenishment, weekends, holidays, and delivery-day restrictions can change both cost and risk.
- Facility execution: A correct route and label cannot prevent a wrong pick, omitted coolant, incorrect insulation, missed cutoff, or late carrier handoff.
- Regulated shipments: Healthcare and pharmaceutical products may require stricter chain-of-custody, monitoring, and validation. Coldcart’s public materials discuss relevant expertise but do not establish regulatory approval or validation for every regulated use case.
