Bloomberg reported in April 2017 that Cohesity attracted a valuation of more than $500 million alongside a funding round exceeding $90 million. The valuation was attributed to an unnamed person familiar with the matter; founder and CEO Mohit Aron declined to comment on it. It was a reported private-round estimate, not a confirmed company figure or a current valuation.
What Bloomberg reported about Cohesity’s valuation
On April 4, 2017, Bloomberg reported that GV and Sequoia Capital co-led a financing round of more than $90 million for Cohesity. The report attributed the valuation of more than $500 million to a person familiar with the matter. Aron declined to comment on the valuation, so the figure should be understood as reported information, not a number the company confirmed. Bloomberg’s report, republished by Data Center Knowledge, is the source for the account.
A valuation in this context is an estimate associated with a private financing round. The report did not describe a publicly traded share price, and it does not establish Cohesity’s value today.
How the financing round was described
Bloomberg called this Cohesity’s third major funding round and reported that the company’s total investment had passed $160 million. The round’s new named investors included Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Foundation Capital. Bloomberg also listed Accel, Battery Ventures, and Qualcomm Ventures among the company’s other investors.

Cohesity said the new funding would support international expansion and hiring additional engineers. Aron described the company’s momentum as “We’re seeing this big uptake,” and said the funding “means that I can kind of press on the gas a little bit.” Sequoia partner and Cohesity board member Bill Coughran said: “There’s a lot of market demand.” These statements explain the company’s and investor’s views of the business; they do not verify the reported valuation.
What Cohesity was selling at the time
The 2017 coverage described Cohesity as a provider of enterprise “secondary” storage: retained data that could be available for uses such as analytics without requiring the highest storage speeds. Its systems combined storage, computing, and networking in equipment the report described as hyperconverged. It also said Cohesity had agreements for its technology to work with Amazon and Microsoft cloud services. These are descriptions of the company and product context reported in 2017, not confirmation of its current products or partnerships. The contemporaneous report also named Shutterstock and Ultimate Software as customers and said Cohesity’s products had become publicly available in late 2015.

What the report did—and did not—establish about growth
Bloomberg reported that Cohesity did not disclose sales. It also reported the company’s claim that its customer count had been roughly doubling every quarter. That is a company-reported growth statement in the 2017 article, not an independently verified or audited metric. It should not be treated as a measure of revenue, profitability, or customer retention.
A same-date republication of Bloomberg’s account by Mint also reported the funding and valuation story; it is a republication, not a separate investigation. Neither account, as cited here, supplies an official company confirmation of the valuation.
