The original launch prices were ₹399 per month in India (including GST) and Rp75,000 in Indonesia, but the plan is no longer limited to those markets. OpenAI announced worldwide availability on January 16, 2026, with a U.S. price of $8 per month. Your actual price, taxes and payment options depend on your country and billing channel.
What ChatGPT Go is
Go sits between ChatGPT Free and ChatGPT Plus. It is designed for people who use ChatGPT regularly and need more capacity for everyday work, but do not need every advanced model or product included with Plus.
OpenAI says Go provides more access to core ChatGPT models, image generation, file uploads, advanced data analysis, memory and context. It also includes access to projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library, subject to availability, storage limits and usage controls. See OpenAI’s current plan description at the ChatGPT Go Help Center page.
How the India-to-Indonesia expansion happened
- August 18, 2025: Go launched in India at ₹399 per month, including GST.
- September 22, 2025: OpenAI launched it in Indonesia at Rp75,000 per month.
- October 14, 2025: OpenAI announced availability in 71 additional countries, bringing reported coverage to 89 countries at that point.
- January 16, 2026: OpenAI announced rollout wherever ChatGPT was supported, including the United States.
Contemporary coverage described the Indonesian price as roughly $4.50, depending on exchange rates. OpenAI executive Nick Turley also said Indian ChatGPT subscribers more than doubled during the first month after Go launched; that is an OpenAI statement, not independently audited subscriber data. The launch history and regional pricing are documented in OpenAI’s supported-countries information.

Where ChatGPT Go is available now
OpenAI’s current Help Center wording says Go is available in every country where ChatGPT is supported. That does not guarantee identical app-store availability, payment methods or local taxes in every territory. “Worldwide” means ChatGPT-supported countries, not every country or every mobile storefront.
To check your account rather than relying on an old launch article:
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Select your profile icon.
- Choose Upgrade Plan.
- Select Try Go.
- Review the displayed currency, taxes, payment method and renewal terms before confirming.
What Go costs
| Market | Reported price | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| India | ₹399 per month | August 2025 launch price, including GST; verify the current checkout amount |
| Indonesia | Rp75,000 per month | September 2025 launch price; verify the current checkout amount |
| United States | $8 per month | Price cited by OpenAI in its January 16, 2026 worldwide-rollout announcement |
| Other markets | Varies | Check the upgrade screen and official pricing page |
The phrase “less than $5” is therefore market- and date-specific. Converting ₹399 or Rp75,000 into dollars does not mean OpenAI charges every country the same equivalent amount. Taxes, exchange rates, Apple or Google billing and regional pricing can change the final total. OpenAI also reserves the right to adjust prices.
Go is billed monthly and renews automatically. OpenAI says there is currently no annual billing for Go, Plus or Pro. You can cancel, but cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than reversing a period already paid.

What you get over Free
- Higher message capacity: useful if you routinely reach Free-tier limits.
- More image generation: suitable for regular, rather than occasional, image work.
- More file uploads: practical for documents, spreadsheets and other longer files.
- More advanced data analysis: including greater access to tools such as Python-based analysis.
- Longer memory and context: helpful for continuing projects and preferences across conversations.
- Productivity features: projects, tasks, custom GPTs and Library where supported.
OpenAI does not promise one permanent set of message, image or upload multipliers. Limits can change with demand, system conditions, abuse-prevention controls and temporary restrictions, so the limit shown in your account is the reliable current figure.
What Go does not include
- Legacy models: OpenAI’s current Go documentation excludes access to legacy models such as GPT-4o.
- Sora: video-generation access starts with Plus where Sora is available.
- API credits: ChatGPT subscriptions and API usage are separate products. Developers pay for API use separately at OpenAI’s API pricing page.
- Every advanced tool: some research, agent, coding and other higher-tier capabilities require Plus or another eligible plan.
- Unlimited voice: voice access remains subject to limits comparable to Free, even though other Go allowances are higher.
Feature availability can also depend on your country, app, workspace, account role or storage limits. Model names and entitlements change, so check the current plan screen before subscribing.
Free vs Go vs Plus
| Capability | Free | Go | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core ChatGPT access | Basic limits | Higher limits | Higher limits than Go |
| Image generation | Limited | Expanded | Expanded |
| File uploads | Limited | Expanded | Higher limits |
| Data analysis | Limited | More access | More access |
| Memory and context | More limited | Longer | Higher limits than Go |
| Projects, tasks and custom GPTs | Some availability | Included, subject to limits | Broader access |
| Legacy models | Not the purpose of the plan | Not included | Eligible legacy-model access may be available |
| Sora | No | No | Yes, where available |
| Price cited by OpenAI | Free | $8/month in the U.S. | $20/month |
OpenAI positions Plus for deeper reasoning, research, data analysis, advanced models, Codex and higher limits. Go is not simply “Plus Lite”; it is a separate lower-cost tier focused on broader everyday access.
Which plan makes sense for your workflow?
Choose Free if
You ask occasional questions, rarely upload files and do not regularly encounter usage limits. Paying for Go adds little value if your current use is comfortably within Free allowances.

Choose Go if
You use ChatGPT most days, analyze documents or spreadsheets, generate images, or want longer-running conversations and projects without paying Plus pricing. Go is most compelling when your local checkout price is meaningfully below $20 and you do not need Sora, legacy models or the broadest advanced-tool access.
Choose Plus if
Your work depends on deep research, agent-style workflows, coding tools, Sora, eligible legacy models or substantially higher limits. Plus was listed at $20 per month in OpenAI’s January 2026 announcement, before any local taxes or regional adjustments.
Use the API instead if
You are building an application, automation or internal software integration. A Go subscription does not include API usage or credits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Switching from Plus or Pro
Existing Plus or Pro subscribers can select Go in subscription-management settings. OpenAI says the current plan remains active until the end of its billing cycle, then the account changes to Go. Switching does not create an immediate prorated refund for unused time.

- Bedside Speaker and Sleep Sound Machine: This compact wireless speaker combines Bluetooth audio, 16 built-in sleep sounds (white noise, brown noise, rain, ocean, and more) and multiple RGB night light modes in one rechargeable device. Stream music while the light pulses in time with your audio, or switch to sleep mode and drift off to the sound you picked. A practical gift for teens and adults upgrading a bedroom setup.
- One Button, Your AI, Instantly: The BRS-180 has a dedicated AI button on top. Press it once and it wakes Google Assistant, Siri, or whichever assistant lives on your paired device. Ask it anything, play music, set a reminder, check the weather, or control your smart home, all from across the room without picking up your phone.
- Pairs in Seconds and Stays Connected: Bluetooth connects to any iOS or Android phone, tablet, or laptop with no app and no account required. Once paired, the 12-hour LED clock display syncs the correct time on its own. Three display settings keep you in control: full brightness, dimmed, or completely off for total darkness. A memory function saves your last volume, sleep sound, and light settings automatically.
- Built for the Nightstand, Night After Night: The soft fabric-wrapped enclosure sits on a nightstand, dresser, or shelf without looking like a gadget. Plug it in over USB-C and it runs continuously, or use the built-in rechargeable battery for up to 6 hours of wireless playback. Either way it is ready when you are. Available in White, Black, and Green.
- 16 Sleep Sounds, Fully Customizable: Choose from 16 built-in sleep sounds that play straight from the speaker with no phone, no app, and no subscription. Set a 15, 30, or 60-minute sleep timer and the sound fades out by itself. Want a different library? Connect it to any PC with the included USB-C cable and swap out every sound stored on the device.
If Go does not appear after purchase
- Confirm that the account’s country and billing region are correct.
- Check that you are signed into the same OpenAI account used to pay.
- If you bought through Apple or Google, wait several minutes for the entitlement to sync.
- Close and restart the app, then check the plan screen again.
- Compare the web and mobile purchase surfaces if your app store does not show Go.
Billing, privacy and advertising considerations
Web, Apple and Google Play checkout can show different currencies, taxes and payment terms. Review the renewal amount before confirming and cancel through the same channel that manages the subscription.
OpenAI says conversations may be used to improve performance and safety, with an opt-out available through ChatGPT’s Data Controls. OpenAI also announced plans to test ads in the U.S. Free tier and Go while describing Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise as ad-free at that time. Advertising policy is subject to change and may not apply uniformly by country.
Bottom line: is Go worth it?
ChatGPT Go is a meaningful upgrade for frequent users who mainly want more messages, files, images, data analysis and memory at a lower price than Plus. Its original sub-$5 positioning remains relevant to the Indian and Indonesian launch story, not as a universal global price. In the United States, OpenAI’s stated price is $8 per month, and other markets can differ.
Check the price and entitlements shown in your own upgrade flow. If you need Sora, legacy models, the most advanced reasoning and coding tools, or API access, Go will not replace Plus or separate API billing.
