Cash App’s terms say it uses a balance snapshot to calculate a bonus, pays any bonus in bitcoin, and does not require users to lock up their bitcoin. A reported offer of weekly rewards of up to 2% annually is not a universal rate or payout promise in the general terms; the offer shown in your account is what matters.
What Jack Dorsey’s “turn it on” referred to
Block CEO Jack Dorsey posted “turn it on” while sharing Cash App’s announcement of Bitcoin Bonus, according to Benzinga reporting republished by TradingView. The brief post is not a detailed description of the feature or its risks.
The report describes weekly bitcoin rewards of up to 2% annually. Cash App’s general Terms of Service confirm that it may offer Bitcoin Bonus promotions, but do not establish a universal 2% rate or weekly payment schedule. Treat those figures as reported offer details, not a return available to every account.
How Bitcoin Bonus works under Cash App’s terms
Cash App describes Bitcoin Bonus as an optional promotion. A user must opt in, and any award depends on the applicable offer and the user’s eligible virtual currency balance. The bonus is calculated from a balance snapshot taken when Cash App determines it and is paid in bitcoin. Cash App may round, limit, delay, cancel, or forfeit a bonus as disclosed in the app or as permitted by its terms.

Cash App says participating does not change how the virtual currency is held, require a lockup, or prevent the user from selling or withdrawing it. The specific in-app offer controls the applicable eligibility, calculation, and payout details.
What to check before opting in
- Your account’s actual offer: Check the rate, eligible balance, calculation method, and any cap or other conditions displayed in Cash App. Do not assume an offer reported elsewhere applies to your account.
- Timing and availability: Check when the balance snapshot is taken and when a bonus would be paid. Cash App’s terms allow eligibility, rates, amounts, timing, and geographic availability to change, and the program may be suspended or ended.
- Account and location requirements: Cash App says offers may differ among users and that individual offers have their own requirements. Its Cash App Offers Terms explain that offers are not necessarily the same for everyone.
- Tax treatment: Cash App says promotional bonuses may be taxable or subject to tax reporting, and users are responsible for applicable taxes. The tax result depends on the circumstances; the terms do not establish one universal outcome.
Why the reported “up to 2%” is not a guaranteed yield
“Up to” describes a ceiling in the reported feature description, not a promise that each participant will receive that rate. The general Cash App terms do not set one rate, a fixed payout cadence, or a guaranteed return. The bonus is promotional, its terms can vary, and Cash App reserves the ability to change or end the program.
