Yes—but only audio generated while you were on an eligible paid ElevenLabs plan can generally be used commercially. The permission is subject to ElevenLabs’ terms and policies, applicable law, and your rights to the material you supplied. Free-plan output is non-commercial, and output made with Beta Services cannot be used commercially even on a paid plan.
When can you use ElevenLabs-generated audio commercially?
ElevenLabs’ current contractual rules make the timing and method of generation decisive. Its Help Center says paid plans include a commercial license for eligible output, while the free plan does not. Beta Services are excluded from commercial and production use regardless of plan. See ElevenLabs’ publishing and commercial-use guidance.
| How the audio was generated | Commercial use under ElevenLabs’ stated rules | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| On the Free plan | No | Sharing non-commercially requires attribution; attribution does not grant commercial permission. |
| During an eligible paid subscription, without Beta Services | Yes, subject to the applicable terms, policies, law, and rights in your inputs | Keep a record of the generation date and plan. |
| During a paid subscription, then the subscription ends | Yes, for output generated during the paid period | ElevenLabs says the commercial rights for that output continue after cancellation. Continued account access is a separate issue. |
| On Free, followed by a later upgrade | No retroactive commercial permission is stated | Do not treat an upgrade as licensing earlier output unless current terms or written guidance from ElevenLabs confirms that. |
| Using Beta Services | No | The Beta Services restriction applies even if you have a paid plan. |
Can you monetize ElevenLabs audio on YouTube or use it for client work?
Under the stated rules, YouTube monetization, paid client projects, advertisements, and commercial audiobooks may use eligible output generated on a paid plan, provided the output was not made with Beta Services and the rest of the applicable requirements are met. The platform or project does not override the generation rules.
For a client job, retain evidence of the plan and generation date, and confirm that the client has cleared the script, music, recordings, and other supplied material. A paid-plan commercial license covers neither third-party rights nor a client’s separate contractual requirements.

What does the free-plan attribution requirement mean?
ElevenLabs says free-plan output cannot be used for commercial purposes. If you share it non-commercially, its Help Center says to include “elevenlabs.io” or “11.ai” in the title. For Eleven Music output, the page gives the separate instruction to reference “Eleven Music.” These attribution instructions do not make free-plan audio eligible for monetization, advertising, client work, or other commercial use.
Does a commercial license mean you own the voice or have cleared every right?
No. Commercial permission, ownership or rights in output, and permission to use input material are separate questions. ElevenLabs’ Terms of Service (non-EEA version) say that, as between the parties, users retain rights in their input and output. The terms also grant ElevenLabs a license to use submitted content to operate and improve its services and develop products. These contractual terms do not establish that generated audio is copyrightable in every jurisdiction or clear rights belonging to someone else.

Voice cloning requires permission
ElevenLabs’ voice and publishing guidance says you must have permission to clone a voice. A paid subscription does not, by itself, authorize cloning another person’s voice.

Which plan should you check before generating audio?
ElevenLabs’ billing documentation says commercial rights apply to content generated on paid plans and that features vary by tier. Before generating audio for a commercial project, confirm the live plan details and whether the specific feature or service you intend to use is a Beta Service. Compare the tiers by commercial-license eligibility, expected credit or generation needs, and required voice-cloning features.

How to check whether a particular audio file is eligible
- Find the generation date and plan. Confirm whether the audio was actually generated during an eligible paid subscription. A later upgrade does not establish commercial permission for earlier free-plan output.
- Check whether Beta Services were involved. If the output was generated with a Beta Service, ElevenLabs’ guidance bars commercial and production use even on a paid plan.
- Review the applicable regional terms and policies. Confirm the rules that apply to your account, intended use, and location.
- Clear the inputs. Make sure you have the necessary permissions for the script, recordings, voice, likeness, and other content supplied to the service.
- Keep documentation. Save the generation date, plan details, and relevant project permissions so you can substantiate your decision later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ElevenLabs voices in a YouTube video?
Eligible paid-period output may be used commercially, subject to the Beta Services exclusion, applicable terms and policies, law, and rights in your inputs. Free-plan audio remains non-commercial.
Do I keep commercial rights after cancelling ElevenLabs?
ElevenLabs says commercial rights continue for output generated during the eligible paid subscription period. This does not turn free-plan or Beta Services output into commercially usable audio.

Can I upgrade later to use old free-plan audio in an ad?
ElevenLabs does not state that upgrading retroactively grants commercial permission. Treat that earlier output as non-commercial unless current terms or written support guidance says otherwise.
