No—not through American Airlines’ current public AAdvantage offers. The airline’s published rewards materials do not list a new lifetime unlimited-flight AAirpass for sale. That conclusion applies to public purchases; the available materials do not establish whether American could make a private or invitation-only arrangement.
What happened to the American Airlines lifetime pass?
The question usually refers to the historic AAirpass, a product associated with lifetime travel privileges. Current American Airlines program pages list available AAdvantage rewards and identify discontinued rewards, but they do not offer a new lifetime unlimited-flight pass for purchase.
References to a lifetime AAirpass still appear in American’s legal materials. The AAdvantage terms effective March 1, 2026 mention “lifetime benefits (such as Million Miler℠ or Lifetime AirPass)” in an account-inactivity provision. American’s international tariff issue effective February 25, 2026 also includes refund treatment for “regular lifetime AAirpass” and “unlimited mileage lifetime AAirpass.” Those references preserve or describe legacy contractual arrangements; they are not a sales announcement for new passes.
Lifetime AAirpass versus Million Miler status
These are different products. A lifetime AAirpass concerns travel privileges under legacy pass terms. Million Miler is American’s current mileage-based loyalty program, which awards an elite-status tier after qualifying flown-mile thresholds. It does not provide unlimited free flights for life.

What lifetime status can you earn today?
American’s current Million Miler descriptions set these lifetime-status thresholds:
- 1 million flown miles: lifetime AAdvantage Gold status.
- 2 million flown miles: lifetime AAdvantage Platinum status.
- 4 million flown miles: lifetime AAdvantage Platinum Pro status, with the revised threshold effective March 1, 2025.
- 5 million flown miles: lifetime AAdvantage Executive Platinum status, with the revised threshold effective March 1, 2025.
“Lifetime” here means the member’s life, and only for as long as the applicable AAdvantage status program continues. The thresholds are status qualifications, not tickets, a cash-value travel credit, or a promise of unlimited flights.

Can an existing passholder still use a lifetime pass?
Current terms and tariff language show that American still recognizes the concept of legacy Lifetime AirPass arrangements. They do not, however, establish how many passholders remain, whether every historical pass is still honored in identical form, or what restrictions apply to a particular contract. Those questions can be answered only by reviewing the passholder’s documents and obtaining a determination from American.
How to verify a claim that a pass is available
- Check American Airlines’ current AAdvantage rewards and program pages for an actual purchase or enrollment offer.
- Distinguish “Million Miler” lifetime status from “Lifetime AirPass” or “AAirpass” language.
- Ask American for the written terms, price, eligibility rules, refund provisions, and booking restrictions before paying anyone.
- If you are an alleged legacy passholder, provide the original agreement or account record and request confirmation of the exact benefits attached to it.
Bottom line for travelers
You cannot currently buy a new American Airlines lifetime unlimited-flight pass through the airline’s public AAdvantage program, based on the published materials available in 2026. The practical current alternative is Million Miler lifetime elite status—earned at 1, 2, 4, or 5 million flown miles—but that status delivers tier benefits, not unlimited lifetime airfare. Legal references to Lifetime AirPass describe legacy arrangements and should not be mistaken for an open enrollment offer.
