Yes—Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has been associated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Data Centre Facilities Engineering at its Sligo campus. The degree was announced in 2017 under the name Institute of Technology Sligo, which became part of ATU in 2022. Engineers Ireland’s programme listing includes the degree with accreditation dates through 2026. Those records establish the programme’s history and accreditation listing, but do not confirm whether applications are open now.

Where is the data center facilities engineering degree?

The programme was originally announced by the Sligo-based Institute of Technology in Ireland. The Higher Education Authority says IT Sligo became part of Atlantic Technological University when ATU was established on April 1, 2022. Engineers Ireland’s programme list now names Atlantic TU Sligo and includes its Bachelor of Engineering in Data Centre Facilities Engineering, with accreditation dates running from 2022 through 2026. ATU’s 2023/24 online prospectus listed it as a two-year, Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering at Sligo. That is a dated prospectus entry, not confirmation of the current course structure or intake. ATU 2023/24 online prospectus

What did the original announcement say?

Data Center Knowledge announced the degree on July 18, 2017, calling it an “industry-first” programme. The article said it was developed after consultations with Google, Facebook, and Microsoft, and described its focus as traditional enterprise data-center practices. It framed the goal as preparing graduates for technology management and data-center facility operations roles. Those are claims from the 2017 announcement, not confirmation of today’s curriculum or employer relationships. Data Center Knowledge, July 18, 2017

The article also reported that U.S. students could complete coursework online but had to attend lab sessions in Belgium. That describes the delivery arrangement reported in 2017; current teaching format and lab location are not established by the later records cited here.

What does a data center facilities engineer study?

The historical announcement characterized the degree as focused on traditional enterprise data-center practices and facilities operations. The sources available do not provide a current module list, so they do not establish which subjects, technical systems, or practical labs students study today. Prospective students should consult ATU’s current course information for the live curriculum rather than relying on a 2017 description.

Is the programme still available, and what will it cost?

ATU’s 2023/24 prospectus listed the degree, and Engineers Ireland’s listing includes accreditation dates through 2026. Neither source confirms whether the course is accepting applications now. The sources cited here also do not establish current tuition or other fees, entry requirements, delivery arrangements, or job-placement outcomes. Check directly with ATU for current availability and financial details before making an application or budgeting decision.

What the 2017 workforce figures do—and do not—show

The 2017 Data Center Knowledge article attributed three workforce figures to the U.S. Department of Labor: more than 4 million people in the data-center operations workforce, 2 million additional workers expected by 2018, and approximately 70 percent of the workforce holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. The article did not specify the year for the first and third figures or the year of the projection, and the underlying Department of Labor publication is not identified here. These are historical figures reported in 2017, not reliable measures of the current workforce or proof of employment prospects for graduates.
