Sometimes—but student status alone does not unlock Canva Pro. K–12 students can generally use Canva Education through an eligible teacher or school. College and university students may receive Pro-level access only when their institution provides Canva for Campus. Everyone else should use Canva Free or a current official offer, not an unofficial shared account.

Canva’s student information page separates school-based Canva Education from higher-education Canva for Campus. Its eligibility guidelines exclude college and university students from Canva Education, even though a university can separately provide Canva for Campus.
Canva Education is not the same as Canva for Campus
Canva Education
Canva Education is intended for eligible K–12 schools, teachers and students. Canva describes it as free for qualifying users and says it includes most premium features, rather than promising every feature in an individual Pro or enterprise plan. Access normally begins with a teacher, school or district invitation and any verification the school or Canva requests. See the Education features page.
Canva for Campus
Canva for Campus is a separate arrangement for colleges and universities. Whether you receive premium features depends on your institution’s contract, configuration and provisioning. Canva does not grant every university student Pro merely because they are enrolled.

Canva Free and individual Pro
Canva Free is available to anyone, including students. Individual Canva Pro is normally paid, aside from any current trial or promotion. A trial is not the same as a student entitlement and can have billing and renewal conditions.
How a college student checks for campus access
- Try the institutional account. Sign in at Canva with your university or college email address, following Canva’s guidance at Canva for students.
- Follow campus authentication. If Canva presents an institution invitation or single-sign-on option, use that route rather than creating another account.
- Check your school’s systems. Search the student portal, software catalogue, IT knowledge base, library site or student-benefits page for Canva for Campus.
- Ask the right department. Contact campus IT, student services, library staff or communications/design staff and ask: “Does our institution provide Canva for Campus, and how do students activate their accounts?” Include your name, student ID if appropriate, university email and program or campus.
- Confirm the plan before relying on premium content. Check the account’s plan label. A premium element can appear in the editor but still produce a watermark or payment prompt at export if your entitlement is not active.
A .edu address can help identify you, but it is not proof that your university subscribes. Do not assume that typing a school email into an ordinary Canva account automatically changes it to Pro.
How K–12 students get Canva Education
- Ask your teacher whether the school uses Canva Education.
- Have the teacher or school send an invitation to your own Canva account.
- Accept the invitation with the correct school or personal email account.
- Complete any school or Canva verification request.
- Open the editor and confirm that the features you need are available before finishing a major project.
Students should not share a teacher’s password. The legitimate route is an invitation to an individual student account.

If your school email is not recognized
An unrecognized address does not identify one single problem. Possible causes include no campus subscription, use of a personal rather than institutional address, a separate single-sign-on portal, missing manual provisioning, an excluded institution or a delay in enrollment synchronization.
- Enter the exact institutional address and check spelling.
- Try the university’s single-sign-on portal instead of Canva’s ordinary sign-in.
- Ask IT whether an invitation or manual account activation is required.
- Confirm that your campus, program and current enrollment are covered by the agreement.
- Do not create multiple duplicate accounts before the school confirms the correct process.
- Use Canva Free while waiting; never upload sensitive school or client work to a “Pro unlock” service.
If access previously worked and then vanished, ask IT to check graduation or withdrawal status, contract changes, deprovisioning and account synchronization. Contact Canva support after the institution confirms that you should still be entitled.
What features will you actually receive?
Canva Education includes most premium features according to Canva’s education materials. Campus access depends on the university’s plan and settings. Team administration, enterprise controls and some institution-specific capabilities are not guaranteed merely because an account shows an education affiliation.

Before committing to a design, test the exact functions you need—such as background removal, premium stock assets or resizing—and verify that export succeeds without a watermark. Canva’s education eligibility rules may also require re-verification every three years: review the current guidelines.
Plan for graduation before your school account closes
School-linked access can end when you graduate, lose the school email address, leave the institution or when the campus contract changes. Canva advises graduating users to copy designs to a personal account. Do this before your institutional login is disabled.

- Create or confirm a personal Canva account.
- Copy important designs and check who owns them and who can edit them.
- Download final files in the formats you need.
- Review brand assets, shared folders and premium elements after copying.
- Do not wait until after email deactivation to recover a portfolio, thesis graphics or club campaign.
Designs may remain viewable after access ends, but editing or exporting can become restricted when they contain premium content. Do not assume you retain Pro permanently.

Is there a permanent Canva student discount?
There is no universal, permanent free-Pro entitlement established for every college student on Canva’s current student information page. An ordinary Pro trial or a temporary promotion is separate from education access; check its billing amount and renewal date before starting it. Availability and terms can change, so verify any offer directly on Canva rather than relying on old articles or social posts.

Use Canva Free first
For basic presentations, posters, resumes and social graphics, Canva Free may be enough. Start at Canva’s official site and design around free templates, fonts, graphics and exports.
Pay only for a legitimate short-term need
If a portfolio, application or freelance project genuinely requires premium assets, review the current individual plans at Canva’s pricing page. Do not publish or rely on a price without checking the page at the time you subscribe; prices, currencies, trials and plan names vary.

Consider an alternative workflow
Adobe Express can handle quick graphics, flyers and video; Microsoft Designer suits students already using Microsoft services; and Adobe Acrobat online tools are more appropriate when the need is PDF conversion, compression, signing or sharing rather than visual design. Check each provider’s current free tier, account requirements and premium limits directly.
Warning signs to avoid
- A website selling a “Canva Pro student account” for a token price.
- Requests to share credentials or join an unknown team.
- Claims that every .edu address automatically receives Pro.
- Instructions to bypass verification or install an unofficial “unlocker.”
Unofficial accounts can expose your designs, disappear without notice, violate account rules or contain compromised credentials. Use Canva, your school portal and campus IT instead.
Bottom line
K–12 students can often receive Canva Education through an eligible teacher or school. College and university students receive comparable premium access only when their institution provides Canva for Campus. A .edu address, graduate enrollment, an ordinary trial or an online seller is not a substitute for that institutional entitlement. If your school does not provide it, Canva Free is the safe default.
