Short answer: No. The May 29, 2024 claim that BlockDAG “surpassed” NEAR Protocol and Aave was promotional framing, not a like-for-like measurement. The reported $36 million was a presale figure, while NEAR is an established layer-1 network and Aave is a live DeFi lending protocol. Available material does not independently verify that BlockDAG led either project in market value, usage, fees, liquidity, security, decentralization or investment returns.
BlockDAG’s own later roadmap says mainnet block production was activated on February 10, 2026 and token and vesting contracts were deployed on February 11, 2026. Those are first-party milestone claims, not proof of a mature, widely used network. The project has also published changing fundraising language, including a $600 million target, so historical presale figures, token issuance and current status must be reconciled before treating them as investment evidence.
What the original headline claimed
The headline appeared on TechBullion on May 29, 2024, with a substantially similar version on CaptainAltcoin. The articles combined several different kinds of assertions:
- BlockDAG had raised $36 million in presale funds.
- NEAR was approaching approximately $9 at that time.
- Aave had generated approximately $1.85 million in fees.
- BlockDAG used DAG technology for faster confirmations.
- The project promoted a crypto payment card, BlockDAG Scan and the X1 Miner application.
- BDAG was offered at approximately $0.0095 in Batch 16.
- BDAG could reach $20 by 2027.
The source article used those points to call BlockDAG a superior or “best” investment. They are not equivalent evidence: a token price, protocol fees, presale proceeds, product descriptions, roadmap promises and a future price target measure different things. TechBullion’s original article is therefore best read as historical promotional coverage.

Is the $36 million presale independently verified?
Not on the evidence available here. The $36 million figure is a claim repeated in promotional crypto coverage, not an audited financial statement. Neither the cited article nor the available official pages supplies a third-party reconciliation of cash received, token sales, refunds, bonuses, expenses or treasury balances.
Later promotional articles claimed totals above $386 million and $410 million. Those later numbers cannot be used retroactively to prove the 2024 $36 million claim, and they should not be merged into one cumulative figure without dated accounting records. CryptoReporter’s later coverage illustrates the changing promotional totals.
Use “BlockDAG claimed” or “promotional coverage reported,” not “BlockDAG raised” as an independently established fact. A credible reconciliation would include presale wallet inflows and outflows, payment-method records, treatment of miner purchases and bonus tokens, refunds, and balances controlled by the project.
Why “surpasses” is not a valid comparison by itself
| Possible meaning of “surpasses” | Evidence required | Why the headline falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Fundraising | Verified capital raised and accounting | A presale is not the same event as the operation of NEAR or Aave. |
| Market capitalization | Circulating supply multiplied by a reliable market price | Presale proceeds are not market capitalization. |
| Liquidity and volume | Exchange records, order-book depth, spreads and withdrawals | No comparable liquidity data is supplied. |
| Protocol revenue | Fees, revenue and any token-holder value capture | Aave fees cannot be compared directly with presale money. |
| Network activity | Transactions, active users, developers, validators or total value locked | No independent BlockDAG activity dataset is provided. |
| Technology | Reproducible benchmarks, security and decentralization data | DAG terminology does not demonstrate superior performance. |
| Investment return | Entry price, dilution, liquidity, exit price and risk | A forecast is not a realized return. |
On every defensible interpretation, the headline does not establish that BlockDAG surpassed NEAR or Aave.

What BlockDAG says it is building
Architecture claims
BlockDAG’s developer materials describe a layer-1 network combining a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure with proof-of-work. The project also describes EVM compatibility, which would allow Solidity-based applications to be ported or developed for its environment. These are design claims; they do not by themselves establish security or adoption.
Performance targets
BlockDAG materials cite approximately 2,000 transactions per second at launch, near-two-second confirmations and low fees. A meaningful comparison requires the test conditions, definition of finality, sustained load, hardware assumptions, miner or validator count and independent reproduction. A stated target must not be presented as a measured mainnet result.
Product and ecosystem plans
The project has promoted ASIC mining, mining rewards, staking, an explorer, DeFi applications, NFTs, bridges, developer tools and a payment card. A card’s availability, issuer, jurisdiction, fees and KYC/AML requirements must be confirmed with the regulated card partner. Any suggestion that it bypasses KYC is unverified without issuer documentation and applicable legal terms.
Roadmap: promises versus reported milestones
The 2024 coverage described a three-part plan: blockchain development, BlockDAG Scan and the X1 Miner application. Later official pages describe security work, miner staking, ASIC mining, an ecosystem foundation, an “Incarnation” testnet, a token generation event, mainnet production and developer tooling.

| Date or period | Milestone or claim | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|
| May 2024 | $36 million presale and the three-part roadmap promoted | Published promotional coverage |
| 2024–2025 | Audits, mining, testnet and ecosystem milestones | Official roadmap claims; delivery needs independent checking |
| February 10, 2026 | Mainnet block production activated | Claim on the official roadmap at mainnet.blockdag.network; verify with live-chain data |
| February 11, 2026 | Native token and vesting contracts deployed | First-party claim; verify contract addresses and transactions |
| 2026 | Exchange trading, explorer, staking and ecosystem expansion | Requires live exchange, explorer and withdrawal checks |
Mainnet activation, even if confirmed on-chain, is not the same as a mature ecosystem. It does not prove meaningful users, durable decentralization, reliable withdrawals, deep liquidity or profitable mining.
Tokenomics and the $20 forecast
BlockDAG’s official tokenomics page lists a maximum supply of 150 billion BDAG:
| Allocation | BDAG | Share of total supply |
|---|---|---|
| Miners | 75 billion | 50.0% |
| Presale | 50 billion | 33.3% |
| Community and ecosystem | 19 billion | 12.7% |
| Liquidity | 4.5 billion | 3.0% |
| Team | 1.5 billion | 1.0% |
These allocations create several questions. Miner emissions can support network security but also create future selling pressure. A one-third presale allocation can become a substantial overhang when tokens unlock. A 3% liquidity allocation must be compared with actual exchange depth, not simply listed as a percentage. The 1% team allocation does not establish transparent governance or responsible treasury control.
“Fixed supply” also does not mean low dilution when much of the supply is locked and later released. The FAQ describes monthly burns as planned or intended; burns should count only after transaction-level evidence on the deployed contract. Check vesting schedules, unlock dates, mining emissions and the actual circulating supply separately from the headline maximum.

What would $20 imply?
At 150 billion BDAG, a hypothetical $20 price implies a fully diluted valuation of:
150,000,000,000 × $20 = $3,000,000,000,000
That is a mathematical implication, not a prediction. If fewer tokens circulated initially, the initial market capitalization would be lower, but later unlocks would still matter. The 2024 article supplied no valuation model, adoption assumptions, supply schedule or liquidity analysis that could justify a $20 target.

BlockDAG’s security page says an internal audit was completed, a Halborn external assessment was completed and CertiK collaboration was underway. It also describes a broader third-party blockchain audit as planned after beta testnet release. See the official security page.
An audit of a token, vesting contract or selected smart contracts is not automatically an audit of the entire layer-1 protocol. Before relying on an audit claim, obtain the public report and check its date, scope, findings and remediation status. Ask whether it covers consensus, bridges, miner software, wallets, the explorer, presale contracts, payment-card integrations and treasury controls. An auditor’s involvement is not a guarantee against economic, governance, custody or operational failure.

How NEAR and Aave should be evaluated
NEAR Protocol
NEAR is associated with a live layer-1 ecosystem. Relevant comparisons include execution architecture, validator structure, decentralization, developer activity, network usage, token supply and unlocks, market liquidity and security history. The original article’s observation that NEAR was near $9 was a time-specific price reference, not evidence of permanent value or weakness. For current project information, consult NEAR’s official site.
Aave
Aave is primarily a DeFi lending protocol, not a competing layer-1 blockchain. Its meaningful metrics include supplied and borrowed value, fees, supported chains and markets, smart-contract risk, governance, token utility and liquidity. The approximately $1.85 million fee figure and references to anticipated Aave developments in the 2024 article are dated claims, not current measurements. See Aave’s official site for current protocol information.

Due-diligence checklist before buying BDAG
- Confirm the official BDAG contract address from a trusted BlockDAG document and match it to the deployed chain.
- Check whether the contract is upgradeable and identify the accounts controlling administrator keys.
- Verify total and circulating supply on-chain, including miner emissions, presale releases and vesting wallets.
- Review presale wallet inflows and outflows and determine whether reported totals include bonuses, miner purchases, transfers or non-cash commitments.
- Test whether tokens can actually be claimed, transferred, deposited and withdrawn; do not infer liquidity from a quoted price.
- Inspect exchange order-book depth, spreads, slippage and withdrawal history.
- Obtain complete audit reports and list unresolved findings rather than relying on an auditor’s logo.
- Check explorer data against independent node or RPC data where possible.
- Model miner economics after hardware, electricity, maintenance and token-price risk.
- Read the legal entity, jurisdiction, refund, customer-support and geographic-restriction terms.
Do not connect a wallet or transfer funds through a link in a promotional article without independently confirming the domain and contract address. Presale sites are frequent phishing targets.
Bottom line for investors
BlockDAG may have attracted substantial promotional attention and reported strong presale demand, but the evidence does not show that it surpassed NEAR or Aave. The $36 million figure is a historical, un-audited project claim; the $20-by-2027 number is a promotional forecast; and the technology and roadmap claims require live, reproducible verification. Treat BDAG as a high-risk presale or early-network speculation, not as an established substitute for a liquid layer-1 asset or a functioning DeFi protocol.
