BlockDAG is a cryptocurrency Layer 1 that combines a directed acyclic graph (DAG) block structure with Proof of Work (PoW). Instead of forcing every block into one strictly linear sequence, a block-DAG can allow several blocks to be created and referenced concurrently. BlockDAG says this design supports BDAG payments, mining and EVM-compatible smart contracts. Those are project claims; a live mainnet, exchange listing or displayed token price does not by itself prove mature decentralization, reliable liquidity or a safe investment.
What “BlockDAG” means
A blockchain normally groups transactions into blocks and links those blocks in a mostly linear chain:
Block A → Block B → Block C → Block D
A directed acyclic graph can contain several branches that point forward without forming a cycle:
→ Block B →
Block A → Block E
→ Block C →

The diagram is conceptual, not a description of BlockDAG’s complete consensus implementation. The important distinction is that parallel block production is not the same as instant finality. Nodes still need rules for validity, ordering, conflicting transactions, safety and finality. Academic reviews identify consensus interpretation and finality as central challenges in DAG-based systems (SoK: Diving into DAG-based Blockchain Systems; Blockmania).
What a DAG may improve
- More than one block can be produced during a similar period, potentially reducing wasted work from competing blocks.
- Higher throughput or shorter confirmation times may be possible under suitable network conditions.
- Proof-of-Work miners can retain a Bitcoin-like security and reward model.
What it does not guarantee
- A DAG does not remove the need for consensus.
- Parallel blocks do not guarantee that every transaction is final immediately.
- Advertised throughput depends on block size, propagation, node hardware, workload and the definition of “confirmed.”
- A more complex graph can make validation, ordering and finality harder to evaluate.
How BlockDAG says its network works
BlockDAG’s documentation describes an independent Layer 1 using a DAG structure, Proof of Work, a native BDAG coin and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility. The project positions the network for payments, smart contracts and decentralized applications (BlockDAG introduction; documentation).
DAG plus Proof of Work
According to the project, miners perform PoW and receive BDAG rewards while the DAG allows blocks to be created concurrently (What is BDAG?). The claimed trade-off is:
| Potential advantage | Cost or open question |
|---|---|
| Parallel block creation | The protocol must still resolve competing histories and conflicting transactions. |
| Mining-based security | Electricity use, hardware concentration and sufficient hash power remain important. |
| Potentially faster production | Propagation delays can undermine reliable ordering or confirmation. |
| Familiar PoW economics | Mining income depends on difficulty, rewards, electricity, price and liquidity. |
The available material does not establish the network’s exact mining algorithm, independently measured block interval, current difficulty, node count, hash rate or finality rule. Those details should be checked in current protocol documentation and reproducible mainnet data.
EVM compatibility
BlockDAG documents Solidity and Ethereum-compatible accounts. Its explorer identifies chain ID 1404 and native currency BDAG (EVM explorer documentation). EVM compatibility can reduce changes when porting Solidity applications and may allow familiar wallet tools. It does not provide Ethereum’s security, liquidity, decentralization or tooling automatically. Developers must test RPC behavior, gas, precompiles, bridges, wallet support and the chain ID on the current network.

The approximately 2,000 TPS claim
The developer hub presents approximately 2,000 transactions per second as a project-stated capability or target (Developer Hub). Treat it as unverified unless the project publishes a reproducible mainnet benchmark specifying transaction type, hardware, node count, duration and confirmation/finality threshold. A short testnet or laboratory result is not the same as sustained mainnet capacity.
Is BlockDAG mainnet live?
As of the project information dated August 18, 2026, BlockDAG’s official pages state that mainnet block production began on February 10, 2026, BDAG was generated on-chain and vesting contracts were deployed on February 11, 2026, and exchange listings began from March 5, 2026 (official developer hub; official mainnet page). These dates are first-party statements. A live explorer can show that some infrastructure is operating, but it does not by itself prove decentralization, secure consensus, sustainable economics or broad adoption.
Checks that matter more than a roadmap
- Open the current explorer and confirm the latest indexed block, block timestamps and transaction activity.
- Send a small test transaction and verify its hash, sender, recipient, fee and status independently.
- Confirm that an exchange supports both BDAG deposits and withdrawals on the correct chain.
- Check whether smart-contract source code is verified and whether the deployed bytecode matches published addresses.
- Look for independently operated nodes and publicly available node software rather than relying only on a project dashboard.
What BDAG is used for
BlockDAG identifies BDAG as its native cryptocurrency. Its documentation lists transaction fees, smart-contract gas, payments, mining rewards and ecosystem participation as intended uses (What is BDAG?).

Utility and investment value are different. A token can be required to pay gas without having strong demand. A listing supplies a venue, not guaranteed liquidity. Token-denominated staking or mining rewards are not guaranteed dollar returns, and a quoted last-trade price may not be executable for a large order.
BDAG supply and tokenomics
The published whitepaper states a maximum supply of 150 billion BDAG. Its allocation is:

Halving and supply definitions
The whitepaper says mining rewards are intended to halve every 12 months after mainnet launch. That schedule should be checked against live protocol emissions rather than assumed from the document alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSupply figures also vary by source. In an explorer snapshot, the BlockDAG Super Explorer displayed approximately 103.580 billion total supply and 91.394 billion circulating BDAG. CoinMarketCap reported a 150-billion maximum and different total-supply fields. These may represent minted, released, unlocked or circulating supply, and are not interchangeable (explorer; CoinMarketCap). Record the definition, provider and retrieval time whenever you quote a supply number.
Price, market data and liquidity
Historical indexed snapshots are not current quotes. CoinMarketCap’s snapshot showed BDAG at approximately $0.00005139, a market capitalization near $4.69 million, 24-hour volume near $1.92 million, an all-time high of $0.4005 on March 29, 2026, and an all-time low of $0.00002926 on June 9, 2026. CoinGecko displayed substantially different market information and identified a different most-active pair (CoinMarketCap; CoinGecko). Refresh price, spread, volume, order-book depth and withdrawal status at publication.
With a 150-billion maximum supply, a low unit price does not automatically mean a low valuation. Fully diluted value is approximately the token price multiplied by maximum supply, while a thin order book can make the displayed price unattainable for a meaningful sale.

Mining: what buyers need to calculate
BlockDAG promotes X1 mobile mining and dedicated X30 and X100 devices (keynote; official ecosystem site). A phone app that accrues rewards should not be assumed to perform ASIC-equivalent Proof of Work.
Use this model instead of an advertised payback period:
Expected net return = BDAG rewards × executable BDAG price − electricity − pool/service fees − hardware − shipping/taxes − maintenance/downtime − slippage − opportunity cost
Before buying, obtain current figures for hash rate, watts, electricity price, pool fee, network difficulty, block reward, halving schedule, delivery, warranty, repair terms, resale market and whether mined coins can actually be withdrawn and sold. Rewards can fall as network hash rate rises or a halving occurs. A dashboard balance is not proof of withdrawable profit.

The official site presents staking and says rewards are paid every seven days (BlockDAG site). Verify the minimum deposit, lock-up, early-withdrawal rules, reward formula, funding source, contract permissions and whether any stated APY is fixed or estimated. If PoW is the primary consensus mechanism, staking may be an ecosystem or economic feature rather than the process that secures consensus.

Wallets, transfers and explorer verification
The explorer identifies chain ID 1404 and native currency BDAG (BlockDAG Super Explorer). Use the current official documentation for network settings; do not copy an RPC endpoint from a social-media post or advertisement.
- Open the current official domain and explorer.
- Copy the wallet address or transaction hash into the explorer.
- Confirm status, sender, recipient, amount, fee and timestamp.
- Determine whether the balance is native BDAG or a contract token.
- Inspect holders, transfers, events and whether contract source code is verified.
- Compare allocation-wallet activity with the published tokenomics.
- For an exchange transfer, test with a small amount and verify both deposit credit and withdrawal availability.
Explorer contract pages can expose transfers, holders, events, token data and interaction details (contract-details guide). The project publishes allocation addresses, including team, treasury, liquidity, special-allocation and staking wallets, on its official site. Copy addresses from the current page and compare them with the explorer; never send funds to an address obtained from a message or unofficial presale page.
Audits and security claims
BlockDAG says its internal team performed code analysis, unit tests and integration tests and that it partnered with Halborn for an independent assessment (official site). Any claimed audit should be checked at the auditor’s own publication page for date, scope, findings, remediation and audited addresses. A vesting-contract assessment does not audit the consensus protocol, mining software, bridge, wallet, exchange or business model. An audit is not proof of solvency, decentralization, economic sustainability or token value.
Key risks and unresolved questions
- Consensus evidence: Public documentation should explain ordering, conflict resolution and finality in enough detail to reproduce or review.
- Decentralization: Node count, geographic distribution, hash-rate concentration and control of infrastructure are not established by an explorer alone.
- Supply concentration: Team, treasury, special-allocation, staking and vesting wallets can materially affect circulating supply and selling pressure.
- Liquidity: A market-data quote or exchange logo does not prove deep order books, open withdrawals or availability in your country.
- Mining economics: Electricity, hardware, difficulty, halving, token price and slippage can turn advertised gross rewards into losses.
- Presale and vesting: A displayed balance may be locked, claim-limited or unsupported by an exchange.
- Website risk: Multiple BlockDAG-branded domains increase the need to check spelling and use links from currently verified official channels.
- Data conflicts: Official documents, the explorer, CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko may show different supply or market figures because they use different definitions and timestamps.
How BlockDAG compares with other networks
| Network | Broad architecture | Consensus or security model | What a comparison should examine |
|---|---|---|---|
| BlockDAG | Project-described PoW block-DAG with EVM support | PoW plus project-specific DAG ordering | Independent mainnet data, finality, node distribution, liquidity and contract verification |
| Kaspa | PoW DAG-oriented network | Different protocol and ecosystem | Observed network activity, mining economics and decentralization |
| Bitcoin | Linear blockchain | Established PoW | Security history, liquidity, throughput and limited smart-contract model |
| Ethereum | Linear blockchain with mature EVM ecosystem | Proof of Stake | Validator economics, fees, tooling, liquidity and decentralization |
| Hedera | Hashgraph-based ledger | Different consensus and governance model | Governance, node control, smart-contract environment and maturity |
Transaction-per-second figures are not directly comparable unless the workload, hardware, duration and finality definition match.

Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Can you independently inspect blocks, transactions and verified contracts?
- Is node software public, and can an unrelated operator run it?
- Are consensus and finality rules documented clearly?
- Do exchanges support deposits and withdrawals on the correct chain?
- Can you identify maximum, minted, unlocked and circulating supply separately?
- Are vesting and allocation wallets visible on-chain?
- Does a mining calculation remain viable under lower BDAG prices, higher electricity rates and a reward halving?
- Does any audit cover the component you are using, and does deployed code match the audited code?
- Are you relying on a project-controlled dashboard, or have you checked the underlying transaction and contract data?
