Blackbaud CRM’s current major interface upgrade is SKY UX, a phased modernization of the web experience for Blackbaud Enterprise Fundraising CRM. It changes navigation and presentation without replacing the CRM’s underlying business rules or data model. Access starts with CRM Service Pack 42 (SP42) or later, Blackbaud Cloud Operations hosting and Blackbaud ID, while feature availability continues to expand by release.
What SKY UX changes in Blackbaud CRM
Blackbaud introduced SKY UX for Blackbaud CRM in its May 2026 product briefing. The vendor describes a persistent, icon-based navigation system, a cleaner responsive interface, improved accessibility and more consistent, scannable screens. Familiar layouts and workflows are intended to reduce retraining, but those are stated design goals rather than independently measured productivity or accessibility results.
SKY UX is not a new CRM edition. Blackbaud says validations, workflows and data integrity remain intact because the modernization does not rewrite the business rules or data model. Alison Madrigal summarized the change in Blackbaud’s briefing: “SKY UX is not a rewrite of your business rules or data model. Validations, workflows, and data integrity remain intact—allowing teams to adopt the new experience confidently and incrementally.” Read the May 2026 briefing summary.
This is different from the older CRM 4.0 transition to WebUI documented in Blackbaud’s historical CRM 4.0 New Features Guide. The current project is a continuing SKY UX rollout, not a relabeling of that earlier release.

How the phased rollout works
Blackbaud is releasing SKY UX incrementally rather than switching every CRM screen at once. The first focus is high-use constituent and interaction work, with expansion planned across prospect management, revenue, events, reporting and administration. Consequently, two users in the same organization may encounter different coverage depending on the release and functions they use.
Capabilities identified in the later release update
- Data-list List Builder: create, save, manage and reuse filtered views.
- Contextual help: assistance presented within relevant screens.
- Constituent relationships: edit relationships for individuals, organizations, groups and households.
- Constituent overview tiles: Opportunities and Primary Relationships tiles.
- Marriage Options: a dedicated page for those settings.
Blackbaud’s SKY UX modernization release update is the authoritative place to check which functions have arrived in a particular release.

Who can start using SKY UX
Blackbaud identifies three prerequisites for beginning to explore the new experience:
- Run Service Pack 42 (SP42) or later.
- Use Blackbaud Cloud Operations hosting.
- Use Blackbaud ID for identity and sign-in.
SKY UX is included with CRM, and administrators can control access at the security-group level. Blackbaud says release timing is the same across regions. Hosted customers who do not yet use Blackbaud ID need to migrate to single sign-on (SSO) before enabling the experience.
These requirements exclude on-premise and self-hosted deployments from the stated starting path. Confirm your hosting arrangement, service-pack level and identity setup with your Blackbaud administrator before planning a pilot.
What carries over—and what may not
| Area | What the available information establishes | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Business rules and validations | Blackbaud says they remain intact. | Teams can test the new presentation without assuming a new data model. |
| Workflows and data integrity | Blackbaud says workflows and data integrity remain intact. | Validate critical processes in a pilot, but do not plan a data conversion solely for SKY UX. |
| Custom interface elements | Early 2026 SKY UX releases do not display customizations. | Inventory custom screens and extensions; a familiar workflow may look incomplete until support arrives. |
| Feature coverage | Rollout is staged and expands over time. | Check release notes for each function instead of assuming full parity. |
| Developer support | SDK support continues, and Blackbaud plans updated customization documentation. | Developers should follow the updated documentation before adapting extensions. |
The key distinction is that an unchanged underlying rule does not guarantee an unchanged screen: customized interface elements can be absent in an early SKY UX release.

A practical adoption plan for nonprofit administrators
- Confirm eligibility. Record your CRM service-pack version, hosting model and Blackbaud ID/SSO status.
- Map the pilot group. Select security groups that use the constituent and interaction functions already covered by SKY UX.
- List dependencies. Identify custom pages, fields, scripts or other interface changes used by those groups; early releases may not display them.
- Test business-critical paths. Exercise constituent updates, relationship edits, list views and interaction workflows with representative records, checking validations and permissions.
- Compare release coverage. Use the latest modernization update to verify which screens are available before expanding the pilot.
- Train by task. Point staff to contextual help and the official learning materials, while keeping the classic path available where a required function has not yet moved.
- Review after each release. Recheck customizations and security-group assignments as coverage grows.
Developer and customization considerations
Blackbaud says SDK support will continue and that updated customization documentation is planned. That support does not mean every existing visual customization will render immediately: early 2026 SKY UX releases do not display customizations. Treat custom-interface compatibility as a release-by-release question, and preserve a tested fallback for staff who depend on an extension that has not yet appeared.

The May briefing says Chat for Blackbaud AI is included for Blackbaud CRM customers using Cloud Operations when it becomes available in their environment. It is unavailable to on-premise or self-hosted customers. The Development Agent is an optional additional subscription, not part of standard CRM subscriptions. The briefing does not establish general availability, so administrators should verify current release status and commercial terms before making an AI deployment plan.

Where to get documentation and training
Blackbaud introduced the Blackbaud CRM Resource Center as the central destination for task-oriented documentation, best practices, security and cloud-migration resources, “What’s New” videos and Blackbaud University-led learning. Start there for enablement material, then use your organization’s administrator and implementation team for environment-specific testing and change control. What SKY UX means for a nonprofit’s decision
For eligible hosted customers, SKY UX is an included, controlled modernization that can be introduced to selected security groups rather than a forced all-at-once migration. Its value is the newer navigation, responsive presentation and accessibility-focused design; the main operational risk is incomplete feature parity and missing custom interface elements during the staged rollout. Base your go/no-go decision on the functions and customizations your staff actually use, not on an assumption that every CRM screen has already moved.
