There is no single best Verizon phone. For most 2024 shoppers, the iPhone 15 is the best all-around iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is the best Android choice, and the Google Pixel 8 offers the strongest camera value. Choose postpaid device financing when a verified trade-in promotion genuinely lowers your total cost and you expect to stay with Verizon through the credit period. Choose prepaid or an unlocked phone when flexibility and predictable spending matter more.
“With contract” usually means Verizon postpaid service with a device-payment agreement—not a traditional two-year contract. Verizon documentation describes terms of 12, 24, 36 or 48 months today, while terms and promotions available in 2024 could differ. See Verizon’s explanation at Verizon’s device-payment FAQ.

What counts as a Verizon phone?
You can buy a phone directly from Verizon for postpaid service, buy a Verizon Prepaid handset, purchase an unlocked model from Apple, Google, Samsung or a retailer, bring a phone from another carrier, or use a compatible used/refurbished device. “5G” on the box is not enough. The exact model must support Verizon’s network, have an acceptable IMEI and be unlocked when required.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Verizon, which means this device can only be used on the Verizon wireless network. A Verizon plan is required to activate this device. Activating is easy, upon receipt go to the Verizon Website and select “Activate” and follow the prompts. **NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VERIZON POST PAID**
- POWER THROUGH YOUR WEEKEND – Free yourself from the outlet with a massive 5000mAh battery designed to last up to 3 days on a single charge. Stream, game, and chat for hours on end without worrying about your battery life.
- CAPTURE STUNNING PHOTOS – The advanced 50MP camera system with Quad Pixel technology lets you shoot incredibly sharp and vibrant photos, even in low light. Get creative with the Macro Vision lens for amazing close-up details and capture professional-looking portraits.
- SMOOTH & IMMERSIVE DISPLAY – Your favorite content looks brilliant on the expansive 6.6” HD+ display. Experience ultra-smooth scrolling and seamless gaming with a fast 90Hz refresh rate that makes every swipe and tap feel incredibly fluid.
- RELIABLE 5G PERFORMANCE – Experience the speed you need for buffer-free streaming and lag-free gaming on Verizon's award-winning 5G network. With an octa-core processor and 128GB of internal storage (expandable to 1TB), you have the performance and space for everything.
For prepaid BYOD, find the 15-digit IMEI (on many phones, dial *#06#), open Verizon’s BYOD page, enter it and follow the result. Verizon can reject a device because it is carrier-locked, reported lost or stolen, unsupported or incompatible. Activation can use a physical SIM or eSIM; you may keep your number or request a new one.
Postpaid financing versus prepaid or unlocked
When postpaid financing makes sense
- You qualify for a trade-in, new-line or upgrade promotion that materially reduces the phone’s total cost.
- You expect to keep the required Verizon plan for the entire promotional credit period.
- You accept monthly installments, taxes, activation or upgrade fees, insurance and accessory costs.
A phone advertised as “free” normally means Verizon applies monthly bill credits to an installment balance. Leaving Verizon, upgrading early or changing to an ineligible plan can stop credits and leave installments due. Evaluate the offer as:
Required plan cost + taxes and fees + activation fee + accessories + remaining balance − trade-in value − promotional credits.
When prepaid or unlocked is better
- You want predictable monthly spending without a long promotional obligation.
- You may switch carriers or prefer to own the phone immediately.
- You have limited credit or do not want a device-financing agreement.
- You can pay full price and verify compatibility before activation.
Prepaid can have different data priority, hotspot limits, international features and taxes than postpaid. A low-cost prepaid handset may also receive fewer updates than a flagship. Verizon’s current prepaid catalog is dynamic, so check the handset and plan at purchase rather than relying on a static list.

iPhone 15: best overall iPhone
Apple lists a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, A16 Bionic chip, 48MP main camera, USB-C and IP68 water and dust resistance for the iPhone 15: Apple’s specifications. Storage options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
It is the sensible default for Apple users who want modern hardware without Pro pricing. USB-C simplifies charging, the camera is a major step above older standard iPhones, and Apple’s ecosystem supports strong resale value and long app compatibility.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Verizon Prepaid and can only be used on the Verizon Prepaid network. A Verizon Prepaid plan is required for activation. Activation is simple and can be done online upon receipt of your device following 3 EASY steps.
- Immersive 6.7" Super AMOLED Display: Enjoy a vivid viewing experience on the large 6.7-inch FHD+ screen. The 90Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and fluid gameplay, while Super AMOLED technology delivers deep blacks and brilliant colors even in bright sunlight.
- 50MP Triple Camera with OIS: Capture professional-grade photos with the 50MP main lens featuring Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for blur-free shots. Expand your perspective with the 5MP Ultra Wide lens or get close with the 2MP Macro camera.
- Long-Lasting 5,000mAh Battery: Power through your day with a massive 5,000mAh battery that keeps up with your streaming, gaming, and social sharing. When it’s time to refuel, the 25W Super Fast Charging capability gets you back to 50% in roughly 30 minutes.
- Next-Gen 5G & AI Features: Experience ultra-fast 5G speeds for seamless downloads and high-quality video calls. This device comes integrated with Google Gemini AI and "Circle to Search," making it easier than ever to find information instantly.
- Trade-offs: 60Hz refresh rate, no dedicated telephoto camera, slower USB-C data transfer than Pro models, and no charger in the box.
- Postpaid: Compare the full bill-credit obligation; a Pro model can have a similar monthly payment under an unusually strong promotion.
- Prepaid: Buying unlocked gives the greatest flexibility if the upfront price is manageable.
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: premium choices
The iPhone 15 Pro adds a 120Hz ProMotion display, titanium construction, A17 Pro chip, dedicated telephoto camera and USB 3 transfer through USB-C. The 15 Pro Max is the premium pick for photography and video: it has the largest display and battery in the 15 family and a 5x optical telephoto camera.
Choose Pro models only when you value high-refresh scrolling, zoom, video, maximum battery or the larger screen enough to justify the price. Verizon offers may require a new line, a particular unlimited plan or a qualifying trade-in.

Older iPhones: buy only at a meaningful discount
An iPhone 13, 14, 11 or 12 can be reasonable prepaid or refurbished value when it is substantially cheaper, unlocked, covered by a return policy and has verified battery health and adequate storage. Accept Lightning on the 13 and 14, and compare remaining software support. Do not call an older model a bargain simply because its Verizon installment displays as $0.
Best Samsung Galaxy phones for Verizon
Galaxy S24: best Android for most buyers
The U.S. Galaxy S24 combines a compact 6.2-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, a triple-camera system and Galaxy AI features. Samsung’s located specification page is Samsung’s S24 listing; verify the exact U.S. model number before buying, because international configurations can differ.
It is the strongest general Android recommendation for readers who want customization, Samsung accessories, Galaxy Watch or Buds integration, and Windows connectivity. Its battery is capable but not the best in the class, and AI functions can change or require internet access.
Galaxy S24+: large-screen value
The S24+ is a good middle ground when 2024 pricing puts it close to the base S24. It offers a larger, higher-resolution display, more battery capacity and flagship performance without the Ultra’s weight, stylus or price. Its value depends heavily on the actual Verizon promotion.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Verizon Prepaid and can only be used on the Verizon network. A Verizon Prepaid plan is required for activation, not compatible with Verizon POSTPAID. - Next-Gen 120Hz Entertainment: Immerse yourself in movies and games on the massive 6.7-inch HD+ display. With a fast 120Hz refresh rate, scrolling is incredibly smooth, and the screen is protected by durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to withstand daily wear and tear.
- 50MP Quad Pixel Camera System: Capture sharp, vibrant photos in any light with the 50MP main camera featuring Quad Pixel technology for 4x better light sensitivity. The system includes a dedicated Macro Vision lens for extreme close-ups and a 32MP front camera for crystal-clear selfies and video calls.
- Unbeatable Battery Life: Go longer than ever with a massive 5100mAh battery designed to last up to two days on a single charge. When you need to fuel up, 30W TurboPower charging gives you hours of power in just minutes.
- Powerful Performance & Storage: Experience the speed of 5G with the efficient MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor and 4GB of RAM. Store all your apps, photos, and videos with 64GB of internal storage, expandable up to 1TB with a microSD card.
Galaxy S24 Ultra: best for power users
The Ultra has a 6.8-inch display, integrated S Pen, 200MP main camera and multiple telephoto cameras. It suits productivity, gaming, long-range photography and users who specifically want a stylus. It is large and heavy, and most buyers do not need its extra camera hardware.
Galaxy Z Flip 6: best compact foldable
The Flip 6 folds into a pocket-friendly shape and adds useful cover-screen functions. The 2024 processor and battery improve on earlier Flip generations, but the visible crease, hinge and inner-display repair risk remain. Battery life is below conventional flagships, and the camera system is less versatile than the S24 Ultra. It is a poor default prepaid recommendation unless you have insurance or can absorb a costly repair.
Galaxy A15 5G: budget Samsung
The A15 5G offers a low price, AMOLED display and familiar Samsung software. Its slower processor, basic cameras and limited storage make it unsuitable for demanding games or heavy multitasking; a microSD card may be useful. Verify the exact unlocked model’s Verizon compatibility.

Pixel 8: best camera and software value
Google lists a 6.2-inch display with 60–120Hz refresh, Tensor G3, 128GB or 256GB storage and seven years of OS, security and Feature Drop updates: Pixel 8 specifications.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose it for point-and-shoot photography, Google’s clean Android interface and unusually long formal update support. Tensor G3 is less suitable than leading Snapdragon chips for sustained gaming, and modem or battery behavior can be less consistent in weak-signal areas. The standard Pixel 8 has no dedicated telephoto lens.
Pixel 8 Pro: best Pixel camera
The 8 Pro is for photography enthusiasts who want a larger, brighter display and Google’s advanced editing and AI tools. It is bigger and more expensive; the camera advantages matter less for casual snapshots, and gaming performance remains behind the fastest Android flagships.

- This refurbished product is tested and certified to work properly. The product will have significant blemishes and/or significant scratches, dents, or frame damage. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, and may arrive in a generic box.
Pixel 7a: value only when clearly cheaper
A discounted Pixel 7a can work for prepaid buyers who accept an older processor and smaller battery. If its price approaches a Pixel 8, choose the Pixel 8 instead. For refurbished Pixels, Google says its certified devices are quality tested, use authentic parts, include a one-year warranty and are unlocked: certified refurbished information.
Budget and prepaid buying rules
Prepaid inventory changes too frequently for one permanent winner. For a new budget phone, target:
- 128GB storage where possible
- A processor and RAM combination that handles ordinary multitasking
- A bright screen, usable 5G support and a large battery
- Known update duration, NFC for contactless payments and eSIM if needed
- An unlocked status, case availability and a return policy
Potential 2024 categories included the Galaxy A15 5G, Moto G 5G (2024), Moto G Power 5G (2024), Nokia or TCL prepaid models, and certified refurbished iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or Pixel 6a devices. When an older flagship and an ultra-cheap new phone cost about the same, the flagship usually has better cameras, display and durability—but check battery health and remaining updates.
How to compare a Verizon deal with buying unlocked
- Write down the phone’s cash price, storage tier and seller.
- List every required plan, new-line, trade-in and upgrade condition.
- Calculate installments, taxes, activation fees, insurance and accessories over the entire credit period.
- Subtract only the promotional credits you can realistically receive for the full period.
- Compare that result with the unlocked purchase price plus the prepaid or postpaid service you would otherwise choose.
- Read what happens to credits if you leave, change plans, trade in early or fail to meet eligibility.
The cheaper monthly device payment is not automatically the cheaper ownership option. An unlocked phone can cost more on day one but preserve the ability to change carriers and sell the device independently.
Activation and compatibility checklist
- Find the exact model number and IMEI.
- Confirm the phone is unlocked, not reported lost or stolen and covered by a return policy.
- Run the IMEI through Verizon’s compatibility checker.
- Verify physical-SIM or eSIM support for your planned activation.
- Check that the device and plan support the type of 5G you expect. “5G capable” does not guarantee Ultra Wideband.
- For refurbished devices, obtain battery-health information, warranty terms and a clear return window.
Ultra Wideband access depends on the plan, capable device, location and qualifying coverage area. Current plan features are listed at Verizon Prepaid’s plan page.
