Which kind of freebie or discount are you looking for?
| Service type | Examples | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Free sample and offer directories | Latest Free Stuff; Freebie Supermarket | Listings point you to offers from other providers. Availability, eligibility and any purchase or postage requirement depend on each offer. |
| Neighbour and community giveaways | Freecycle; Freegle; Olio | Locally listed items are generally collected by arrangement. Stock depends on activity in your area, and popular listings may be claimed quickly. |
| Shared surplus food | Olio | Free food may be shared by neighbours or sourced from local shops through volunteers; check local availability and collection details. |
| Discounted surplus food | Too Good To Go | Buy a surprise bag from a participating venue. It is discounted food, not a free giveaway. |
There is no evidence here for a reliable national ranking by success rate or savings. Your best option depends on the type of offer you want and whether there are active listings or participating venues nearby.
Best UK websites for free samples and offer listings
Latest Free Stuff
Latest Free Stuff has a website and app listing UK freebies and samples. The site describes its offers as handpicked and says it earns revenue through affiliate links. Its offer and membership totals are self-reported and may change, so treat the directory as a way to discover promotions, not as independent confirmation that an offer is available or worthwhile.
Freebie Supermarket
Freebie Supermarket says it checks UK offers daily and sorts them into categories including food and drink, days out, hair and beauty, books and downloads. It warns that limited-stock offers can run out quickly. Follow the listing through to the original provider and check that provider’s terms before submitting details or placing an order.

Best apps and websites for free things near you
Freecycle and Freegle
Freecycle and Freegle connect people giving away items with people who can use them. MoneySavingExpert’s guide, updated 21 April 2026, identifies both as free to join and recommends checking both because local groups differ. Freegle also has an app. Listings are local and time-sensitive: check your area often and be prepared to arrange collection promptly.
Olio
Olio describes free food shared from local shops and free items from neighbours, such as books, toys and toiletries. It also says volunteers collect surplus food from local businesses for nearby sharing. This is a free-sharing model in the cited description, unlike a paid surplus-food bag. Listings depend on local participation, and collection arrangements vary.

Apps for free or discounted food
Too Good To Go: discounted surprise bags
Buckinghamshire Council describes Too Good To Go as a free-to-download app where users browse participating venues and buy a surprise “magic bag” of surplus food at a discount. The council says each bag costs a third of the retail price; that is the council’s description, not an independently tested comparison, and the page does not state a reference date for the figure. The bag is still a purchase, and its contents are a surprise.
Olio: food shared for free
Olio’s cited description is different: food from local shops and neighbours is shared free with recipients. Check the app for what is available in your area and follow the listing’s collection instructions. Neither service should be assumed to have offers in every town.

How to check whether a “free” offer is genuine and worthwhile
- Open the original provider’s offer page. A directory listing is not the final word on eligibility, stock or price. Confirm the promotion is still active and read the provider’s terms.
- Identify every condition. Check whether the offer requires a purchase, postage payment, referral, account approval, qualifying action or particular eligibility. “Free” may describe only the item, not the steps needed to get it.
- Check the full cost and renewal terms. Look for a trial that becomes paid, a recurring subscription or delivery charges. London for Cheap’s guide, with live offers last checked 3 October 2026, advises checking renewal terms and avoiding unexpected fees to release a prize or deliver a supposed freebie.
- Review sign-up choices. Use the official company page, check optional marketing boxes and avoid giving payment details unless the terms explain why they are needed and what will be charged.
- For local listings, confirm collection details. Agree where and when to collect, and do not travel until the giver or venue confirms the item or food is still available.
- Compare discounts against the normal price. The UK government warns that a promotion can be misleading if the “discounted” price is the same as the price before the promotion. Check the price and terms rather than relying on a saving label.
The scale of subscription risk is worth bearing in mind: a UK government press release published 9 August 2026 reported a Citizens Advice finding that over 13 million people (26% of UK adults) accidentally took out a subscription in a year. The release passage does not state the year in which Citizens Advice measured that finding.
Freebie listings are not all legitimate or appropriate. UK government guidance says businesses must not offer free samples or promotional giveaways of vaping and nicotine products to the public, including through third-party promotions. Do not treat those offers as valid freebies.

Choosing the right service for your postcode
- Want samples or promotions you can claim online? Browse Latest Free Stuff or Freebie Supermarket, then verify the offer with its provider.
- Want household items without paying? Check both Freecycle and Freegle, since local groups may have different listings.
- Want free food shared locally? Look at Olio and check the collection details on each listing.
- Happy to pay less for surplus food? Search Too Good To Go for participating venues and available bags.
Local activity is the deciding factor for community networks and participating-food apps. An app may be useful in one town and quiet in another; check the current listings before relying on it.
