There is no single online poker site that can be called best for every US player: legal access depends on your state, and the available evidence does not support a current nationwide ranking. Start by verifying authorization with your state regulator, then compare the games, player pools, payment terms and protections available to you.
Which online poker sites can you use in your state?
Online poker access is state-specific. A site appearing on one regulator’s list does not establish that it is authorized or available in another state. Check your own state regulator’s current information before you create an account or deposit.
Pennsylvania: use the state regulator’s operator list
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) publishes an online poker operator list and tells players to verify that a site is PGCB regulated. The list names BetMGM, BetRivers, Borgata, DraftKings, FanDuel, PlaySugarHouse and World Series of Poker. This is Pennsylvania-specific information, not proof that every operator is available in other states.
Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey: a documented shared-pool launch
The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced that DraftKings launched multi-state internet poker among Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey on July 8, 2026, after the regulator determined the operator met regulatory requirements for multi-state poker. That announcement documents this launch and these states; it is not a complete list of all shared poker networks. See the Michigan regulator’s announcement.

Why a national state count is not a safe shortcut
Secondary comparison pages do not agree on the number of regulated US poker states or how to characterize Connecticut: one result counts seven states including Connecticut, another counts six without it, and another describes Connecticut as awaiting a full launch. Those summaries are not a substitute for checking the relevant regulator. See the differing pages from PokerSites.org and Run It Once.
How to decide which site is best for you
Once you have narrowed the options to sites that are authorized where you are, compare the details that affect how you will actually play and manage your money. Terms and availability can change, so confirm them on the operator’s current site before signing up.

1. Confirm regulator authorization
Look for the operator on the relevant state regulator’s current list or licensing information. Do not infer local authorization from a national review, an app-store listing or another state’s operator list.
2. Match the games, formats and stakes to your play
Check which poker variants, cash games, tournaments, formats and stake levels are offered in your state. A large catalog is not automatically a good fit if it does not include the games you want or if the stakes do not suit your budget. The official sources cited here establish licensing context and one shared-network launch, but do not provide current operator-by-operator game or stake comparisons.

3. Check the reach of the player pool
A shared player pool can bring together eligible players across state borders, which may affect the games and tables available. Verify which states are actually connected to the particular operator and product you plan to use; the DraftKings announcement above establishes one specific arrangement, not the reach of every operator’s network.
4. Read deposit and withdrawal terms before funding an account
Compare the payment methods accepted in your state, withdrawal options, processing times, fees, and any limits or account conditions. Do not assume that two sites with similar deposit options handle withdrawals on the same timetable. The available official sources do not establish current site-by-site payment terms.
Rank #4
5. Review security, complaints and play-management tools
Before opening an account, find the operator’s account-security information, customer-support and dispute process, and responsible-gambling tools. Check what limits or account controls are available and how to use them. These are comparison criteria, not features that can be attributed to every operator from the regulator announcements cited here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the available evidence can—and cannot—establish
| Evidence | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| PGCB operator list | The Pennsylvania regulator lists seven named operators in its Pennsylvania online poker information. | Availability in another state, or a ranking by games, payments, fees or protections. |
| Michigan regulator announcement, July 13, 2026 | DraftKings launched a multi-state poker network involving Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey on July 8, 2026, and Michigan found it met requirements for multi-state poker. | A complete map of all operators’ shared pools or a comparison of their current terms. |
| Secondary comparison pages | They offer market commentary and comparisons. | A consistent, regulator-verified national count: the cited summaries conflict on state totals and Connecticut’s status. |
Because those sources do not establish current operator-specific offerings across all relevant comparison points, they do not support naming one site as the best overall or assigning a reliable nationwide rank. Treat review rankings as a starting point for questions, not as proof of authorization or a substitute for checking the terms that apply in your state.
