There is no single best online accelerated RN-to-BSN program for every nurse. The right choice depends on your state, transfer credits, remaining prerequisites, budget and realistic study time. The four programs below illustrate different routes: competency-based pacing at East Texas A&M, a published tuition-and-time estimate at UT Arlington, asynchronous study at the University of Oklahoma, and a three-term nursing sequence at Bellevue.

This guide is for working U.S. registered nurses with an associate degree or nursing diploma who want to complete a BSN. It is not about an accelerated prelicensure BSN (ABSN), which is for people pursuing initial RN preparation. Program details and published prices were checked against university pages on October 4, 2026; confirm current terms and your individual eligibility directly with each school.

How to choose an accelerated online RN-to-BSN program

Compare the degree you will actually complete—not just the shortest advertised timeline or a headline price. A fast route for one applicant may take longer or cost more for another, depending on transfer evaluation, prerequisites, course sequencing, term starts and available study hours.

  • Check accreditation. Confirm both institutional accreditation and programmatic accreditation for the specific nursing program. CCNE and ACEN are the nursing accreditors identified by the comparison source; institutional accreditation alone does not establish nursing-program accreditation. Verify current status with the school and accreditor.
  • Get a transcript evaluation. Ask how many credits will transfer, which general education requirements remain, and how many nursing credits you must complete. Use that evaluation to estimate your own finish date and total price.
  • Match the pace to your schedule. A competency-based option may let you move faster through material you know, while a term-based program sets a course sequence and deadlines. Neither makes the work disappear; estimate weekly study capacity alongside work and family responsibilities.
  • Confirm state availability and experiential work. Online delivery does not guarantee enrollment in every state or eliminate applied learning. Ask whether the program can enroll residents of your state and whether you need a workplace or community placement.
  • Compare the full bill. Clarify tuition basis, mandatory fees, term charges, residency pricing, financial aid, and any practicum-related costs. Per-credit, per-term and total-tuition figures are not directly comparable without the same assumptions about credits and fees.

Four online accelerated RN-to-BSN options

These examples represent different program models, not a ranked top four. The time and tuition figures below are university-published descriptions accessed October 4, 2026, not independently verified student outcomes. Ask each institution to confirm current figures and your personal credit evaluation.

Program Delivery and published pace Published tuition basis Credits and transfer Other checks
East Texas A&M University 100% online, competency-based track; five seven-week terms, or 10 months for full-time study. The school says students may accelerate or decelerate. $1,000 per seven-week term, as listed on the program page. Ten nursing courses totaling 30 credit hours. Confirm how prior credits and other degree requirements apply. The university describes eligibility for applicants enrolled in or graduated from a U.S.-based associate-degree or diploma RN program; confirm licensure and full admissions requirements. The page says another course may be added in a term at no added cost if the stated fourth-Friday completion deadline and other rules are met. East Texas A&M program details.
The University of Texas at Arlington As few as nine months, according to the university; the shortest estimate is not a completion promise. $8,995 total tuition, as listed on the program page. 35 credit hours. Individual transfer evaluation affects the work remaining. The university says relevant College of Nursing and Health Innovation degree programs are CCNE-accredited and warns that state restrictions apply to some accelerated online programs. It describes meeting clinical requirements through application-based assignments at the student’s workplace. UTA program details.
University of Oklahoma 100% online and asynchronous; published completion range is 12–24 months. $330 per credit hour, as listed on the program page. The university describes transfer of up to 60 prerequisite hours and 30 advanced-standing hours for RN licensure, subject to official evaluation. CCNE-accredited, according to the university. Some state residents are not eligible; check current state participation. OU program details.
Bellevue University 100% online; the university describes the nursing sequence as three terms. $459 per credit hour, as listed on the program page. 32 nursing-sequence credits. Reconcile the university’s total-degree-credit and transfer language with your transcript before estimating the full cost. CCNE-accredited, according to the university. Admission information includes a current unrestricted RN license, an associate degree or at least 60 semester hours, and prerequisite coursework. Bellevue program details.

Which option may fit your priorities?

If you want flexible, competency-based pacing

East Texas A&M describes a competency-based structure that allows students to accelerate based on existing knowledge or slow down when work and life demand it. Its term-based charge makes the number of terms especially important to your budget; ask the school how your planned pace, course eligibility and any extra-course rule would affect billing.

If you want a published total-tuition figure and short best-case timeline

UTA publishes $8,995 total tuition and an “as few as 9 months” timeline for its program. Treat both as figures to verify against your state eligibility and transcript evaluation; the short estimate does not establish how long your own remaining coursework will take.

If asynchronous study is important

OU explicitly describes its RN-to-BSN as 100% online and asynchronous, with a 12-to-24-month completion range. Its state participation limits and individual transfer evaluation matter before you rely on that format or timeline.

If you are comparing a three-term nursing sequence

Bellevue lists 32 nursing-sequence credits over three terms. Because the page’s total-degree-credit and transfer language must be applied to an individual transcript, request a written evaluation before turning its per-credit rate into a degree-cost estimate.

How much does an online accelerated RN-to-BSN cost?

There is no fair single-price comparison among these four published figures: East Texas A&M bills by term, UTA lists total tuition, and OU and Bellevue list per-credit rates. The number of credits you still need, transfer decisions, fees and other charges determine your actual total.

  1. Send official transcripts for evaluation. Ask the school to identify accepted credits, remaining general education requirements and remaining nursing credits.
  2. Request an itemized estimate. Have the school state the tuition basis, expected terms or credits, mandatory fees, and any placement or practicum costs. Ask whether the estimate assumes full-time enrollment or a specific pace.
  3. Check aid and billing conditions. Ask the financial-aid office how your enrollment pace affects aid eligibility and whether tuition is charged by credit, term or another measure.
  4. Compare like with like. Use the same remaining-credit assumptions and include required fees before deciding which route is less expensive for you.

Can you complete an RN-to-BSN while working full time?

It can be possible, but the program label “online” does not tell you how much time you will need each week. East Texas A&M says its fully online program is designed for working professionals and allows students to adjust pace. OU identifies its format as asynchronous. Those details may offer flexibility, but they do not guarantee that every course or requirement fits every work schedule.

Before enrolling, map course deadlines against your shifts, family commitments and likely study hours. Ask whether there are fixed meeting times, term start dates, group assignments, workplace-based requirements or deadlines that cannot be moved. If a program permits acceleration, plan around the minimum pace you can sustain rather than the fastest pace advertised.

For example, Bellevue lists a current unrestricted RN license and an associate degree or at least 60 semester hours, along with prerequisites. East Texas A&M describes eligibility tied to enrollment in or completion of a U.S.-based associate-degree or diploma RN program. These are examples, not substitutes for each school’s complete current admissions rules.

How “fastest” lists should be interpreted

A 2026–2027 comparison by RNtoMSN.org groups programs into self-paced, eight-, nine- and ten-month categories. It says it reviewed 55 programs, comprising 45 CCNE-accredited and 10 ACEN-accredited programs, and verified tuition in August 2026. Those are the publisher’s counts and categories, not an official national ranking or evidence that a particular student will finish in the listed time. Its comparison says it organizes programs alphabetically rather than selecting an overall winner. See the publisher’s comparison and methodology.

Use such lists to identify programs to investigate, then check the university’s current page, state authorization, accreditation, transfer evaluation and actual schedule. The school’s written evaluation is more useful for your decision than a nationwide “fastest” label.
