Best Low-Interest Personal Loans of 2026: Rates Starting at 6.49% APR

Published personal-loan rates range widely, and the 6.49% floor is not a confirmed offer for every borrower. Compare APR, fees, eligibility and total repayment on equal terms.

For U.S. borrowers, the lowest advertised personal-loan APRs in the October 2026 comparison start at 6.49%, but that figure is not a broadly available or confirmed SoFi offer: an October marketplace result showed 6.49%, while SoFi’s opened page showed a 6.99% floor. Wells Fargo listed a 6.74% floor with strict customer and loan-term conditions. These are starting points for highly qualified borrowers, not promises. Compare personalized APRs, fees, eligibility, repayment terms and net proceeds before choosing.

What are the best personal loans for 2026?

There is no single best loan for every borrower. The offers below are examples of published U.S. lender disclosures, not a ranking based on identical applications or independent borrower testing. The rates differ in date, eligibility, term, fee and discount assumptions, so compare actual offers for the same amount and repayment period.

Provider Published rate and terms Conditions that matter
SoFi Its opened personal-loan page displayed fixed rates of 6.99%–35.49% APR, for $5,000–$100,000, with no origination fee or prepayment penalty. SoFi offered a soft-credit-inquiry rate check. An October 2026 search result showed a 6.49% floor, but the opened page showed 6.99%; the lower figure is not confirmed by the opened lender page. SoFi says rates depend on creditworthiness, income, term and other factors; state restrictions apply. SoFi personal loan rates.
Wells Fargo As low as 6.74% APR, with rates on its page dated July 10, 2026. That floor applies to a loan of at least $10,000 over three years and includes a 0.25-percentage-point relationship discount. Applicants must already be Wells Fargo customers; qualifying checking and automatic-payment relationships are required for the discount. The lender says its lowest rate assumes excellent credit. Wells Fargo personal loan rates.
Citi 10.24%–18.49% APR as of September 29, 2026; terms of 12–60 months. The floor assumes excellent credit, a 36- or 48-month term and a 0.25-percentage-point autopay discount. Customer relationship requirements can affect eligibility and loan amount. Citi states that it charges no late fee or prepayment penalty. Citi personal loans.
Happen Bank (formerly LendingClub) 5.96%–35.96% APR, 0%–8% origination/processing fees, $1,000–$75,000 and 24–84-month terms; figures listed as of July 6, 2026. The lowest APR may require excellent credit and depends on loan amount, term and investor commitment. Availability of products, rates and terms can vary by state and application channel. Happen Bank personal-loan details.
Truist / LightStream Numeric minimum and maximum APR were not stated on the opened page. Truist describes a 0.10-percentage-point rate-beat program for qualifying competing unsecured-loan offers and says excellent credit is required for its lowest rates. Rate-beat conditions include matching terms and timing. Truist LightStream rate-beat terms.
America First Credit Union Unsecured personal loan: 12.49% fixed. Share-secured loan: 3.05% variable. Rates listed July 6, 2026. Membership and eligibility apply, and rates can change. The 3.05% loan is secured by share savings, so it is not directly comparable to an unsecured personal loan. America First personal-loan rates.

All rates and terms above are lender or marketplace disclosures, not independently tested offers or approval outcomes. The October 2026 6.49% result appeared in an Experian comparison listing, but its opened SoFi page displayed 6.99%; check current terms directly before relying on the lower figure. How to compare the real cost of a personal loan

APR is generally more useful than the note interest rate for comparing borrowing costs because it reflects interest and certain fees. Still, check the amount you actually receive and the full payment schedule: a fee may be deducted from the disbursement even when the loan’s stated amount is higher.

Look beyond the advertised floor

Ask for a personalized APR on the same requested amount and term from each lender. A floor may assume excellent credit, a particular loan duration, autopay, a bank relationship or other underwriting conditions. SoFi’s published rate depends on creditworthiness, income and term; Wells Fargo’s 6.74% floor includes a relationship discount and applies to a three-year loan of at least $10,000; Citi’s floor assumes excellent credit, specified terms and autopay.

Account for fees and cash received

Happen Bank’s example shows why the interest rate alone can mislead. For a $15,262, 36-month loan at a 13.99% interest rate, its example lists a $916 fee, an 18.40% APR, $14,346 in proceeds and monthly payments of about $522. The APR and fee make the cost more apparent than the note rate by itself. Happen’s published fee range was 0%–8% as of July 6, 2026.

Compare equal terms and total repayment

A longer term can reduce the monthly payment while increasing the total interest paid. For a fair comparison, use the same loan amount and term, then record APR, any separately stated note rate, fees, net proceeds, monthly payment and total of payments. Do not treat a lower monthly bill as proof that a loan costs less overall.

Can you qualify for a 6.49% APR personal loan?

Possibly, but the October 2026 6.49% figure should not be treated as a confirmed, generally available SoFi rate. It appeared in an Experian search result while SoFi’s opened page showed a 6.99% floor. A lender’s lowest APR is typically reserved for the most creditworthy applicants, and the eventual offer can also depend on income, loan amount, term, state, purpose, customer relationship and discounts.

Wells Fargo reports that at least 10% of approved applicants for its advertised terms qualified for the lowest available rate, based on April 1–June 30, 2026 data. That lender-reported historical share is not an individual approval probability or guarantee. Wells Fargo’s disclosure says, “The lowest rate available assumes excellent credit history.”

Eligibility, discounts and restrictions to check

  • Existing-customer rules: Wells Fargo offers personal loans only to existing customers. Citi says a customer relationship can affect eligibility and the amount available.
  • Discount requirements: Confirm whether autopay or a relationship discount is built into a quoted floor. Wells Fargo says canceling qualifying automatic payments can raise the interest rate and payment.
  • State and channel availability: Happen notes that some products, rates or terms may not be available in every state or application channel; lenders may also have state restrictions.
  • Loan purpose and use: Verify whether the lender permits your intended use and whether the rate depends on the purpose.
  • Secured versus unsecured: America First’s 3.05% variable share-secured loan requires savings collateral. Pledging savings changes the risk and access to that money; it is not an unsecured-loan substitute on identical terms.
  • Late payments and early payoff: Check the specific contract. Citi states no late fees or prepayment penalties, but those policies should not be assumed for other lenders.

How to shop without confusing quotes

  1. Get several preliminary offers. Check whether the initial rate check uses a soft inquiry and at what stage a hard inquiry may occur. SoFi and Citi distinguish these stages in their disclosures.
  2. Use one comparison scenario. Request the same amount and term from each lender; record APR, fee, net cash proceeds, monthly payment and total repayment.
  3. Read the assumptions behind each floor. Note credit requirements, autopay or relationship discounts, membership rules, loan purpose and state restrictions.
  4. Review service terms. Confirm funding timing, late-payment charges and prepayment rules in the applicable disclosure and final loan agreement.
  5. Choose for fit and total cost. Weigh the required monthly payment against total repayment and your actual cash need, rather than selecting solely by the lowest displayed APR.

Wells Fargo reported that an average of 97% of customers received funds the day they signed, based on April–June 2026. This is the lender’s historical performance figure, not a promise about an individual application or funding date.

When a low-rate consolidation loan may not save money

Debt consolidation is not automatically cheaper. Any savings depend on the interest rates on the debts being paid off, the new loan’s APR and fees, and the repayment term. A longer term can lower the payment but increase total borrowing cost; adding new card balances after consolidation can further undermine the plan. Compare the payoff schedule and total amounts, not just the advertised APR or monthly payment.
