The strongest five-year fixed-annuity rate in the located December 2024 comparison was 5.50%: Sagicor Life’s Milestone Max MYGA for premiums of at least $75,000. At the $25,000 tier, its listed rate was 5.25%. These are historical quotes, not current offers or a universal “best” choice. The comparison was dated December 16, 2024, warned that rates could change without notice, and excluded California and New York. BIG’s MYGA comparison spreadsheet and Sagicor’s December rate announcement provide the dated figures; availability and terms must be checked against the applicable state contract.
What the December 2024 rate snapshot shows
BIG’s agent-facing “MYGA Comparison Spreadsheet,” dated December 16, 2024, listed the following selected rates. Rates are annual crediting rates shown for the stated term and premium tier; they are not verified offers today. The spreadsheet is a reference document, not a complete market census, and says products may not be available in every state. Its rates do not apply in California or New York.

Sagicor independently announced Milestone Max rates effective December 5, 2024: the same five-year figures, plus seven-year rates of 5.45% at $75,000 or more and 5.30% at $25,000 or more. Its release says Milestone Max is unavailable in California, where Sagicor lists a separate Milestone MYGA table. It also cautions that state variations apply, products are not available in all states, and rates may change at Sagicor’s discretion.
Rates differed by term and premium
The December spreadsheet also illustrates why a rate cannot be read apart from its term and deposit tier:

The spreadsheet also shows different surrender-end withdrawal windows and distinguishes products with no such window from those with a 30-day window. It prints carrier ratings, but those are ratings as presented in that dated document—not current ratings or a guarantee of principal. Verify any rating independently and review the contract’s insurer and state-specific terms.
What a MYGA rate does—and does not—guarantee
A multi-year guaranteed annuity (MYGA) is a fixed annuity whose initial crediting rate is guaranteed for a specified period. The guarantee period is not automatically the same thing as the surrender period: examine both in the actual contract. F&G explains that its MYGA initial rate is guaranteed for a specified period and may change at the insurer’s discretion afterward. Sagicor’s December 2024 release stated a 1.50% guaranteed minimum rate after the initial period for the product described in that release; that is a product-specific historical term, not a universal MYGA floor.

Fixed annuity contracts are insurance products, not bank deposits. Sagicor says its guarantees depend on the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer. A printed financial-strength rating is one input to evaluate, not a government guarantee or a substitute for checking the insurer’s current financial information.
Compare access and contract terms before choosing by rate
A high initial rate may not be the best fit if you need access to the money before the contract allows it. F&G notes that withdrawals above permitted amounts during the penalty period can incur surrender charges and, in most states, a market value adjustment (MVA), subject to exceptions. The rate sheet’s surrender-end windows matter because some permit a withdrawal opportunity near the end of surrender, while others show no window.

- Rate and guarantee term: Confirm the rate applies for the full stated duration and whether the contract resets afterward.
- Premium tier: Check the minimum deposit and whether your amount qualifies for the quoted band.
- Surrender period: Compare it separately with the rate guarantee period; early access may trigger charges.
- Penalty-free access and MVA: Read permitted withdrawal provisions, any end-of-surrender window, and state-specific MVA rules.
- State and contract form: Confirm product availability and the exact version approved where you live.
- Insurer and current rating: Identify the issuing carrier and verify current financial-strength information.
- Quote date: Ask for a current, written illustration; a December 2024 rate cannot establish what is available now.
MYGA tax treatment and withdrawal rules also depend on the contract and whether the funds are qualified or non-qualified. Review those consequences for your situation before moving retirement or other savings.

There is no market-wide December 2024 average established by these sources. F&G’s 2024 annual report is issuer-specific: at December 31, 2024, the company said its outstanding MYGA crediting rates generally ranged from 1% to 6%, and the average crediting rate on all of its outstanding fixed-rate annuities was 5%. F&G also said its single-year guaranteed annuity rates generally ranged from 2% to 6%. These figures describe F&G’s own portfolio, not the whole annuity market.

For historical context only, a November 11, 2024 consumer article listed five-year rates of 5.15% for American National Palladium MYG, 5.10% for Aspida Synergy Choice 5, and 5.00% for Sagicor Milestone 5. Those earlier figures are not substitutes for the December 16 comparison; they simply show why dated rates should not be treated as enduring quotes.
Annuity.org quotes Aamir M. Chalisa, MBA, LUTCF, MDRT, General Manager at Futurity First Insurance Group, saying: “Many of my clients seeking short-term investments are purchasing MYGA, especially in the three- to five-year time frame.” That is an attributed advisor observation, not survey evidence or a claim that a MYGA suits every short-term saver.
