Best Exfoliating Pads of 2026: How to Choose a Formula That Fits Your Skin

There is no well-supported, independently tested top 12 here: the available sources identify a handful of products, and their testing belongs to the publishers that reviewed them. The strongest way to choose is to match the acid and pad texture to your skin’s needs and tolerance, then follow the product label. The options below are source-backed examples, not a ranked or personally tested list.

What exfoliating pads can—and can’t—do

Exfoliating pads deliver skin-care ingredients on a pre-soaked sheet. Depending on the formula, they may help loosen dead surface cells or improve the appearance of texture. They are optional: more frequent or stronger exfoliation is not automatically better, and overuse can irritate skin or damage its barrier. Dermatologist Marisa Garshick describes potential benefits and cautions in ELLE’s 2026 guide.

Two common acid groups work differently. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), including glycolic and lactic acid, primarily exfoliate the skin’s surface and are often used for the appearance of uneven texture or tone. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA); because it is oil-soluble, it may be a better fit for pore congestion. A cosmetic product’s positioning is not proof that it treats acne.

Source-backed exfoliating pad options

This comparison reflects what the cited publisher or manufacturer source establishes; it does not rank the products or claim firsthand testing. The sources do not provide enough consistent information to compare current prices, value per pad, or every product’s directions. Check the current package and label before buying or using a product.

Product What the source establishes Potential fit and caveat
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel ELLE describes a two-step product with five AHAs/BHAs and names it among its top-rated options. Source: ELLE Consider it if you want a multi-acid, two-step format. The cited information does not establish a current price, full current formula, or a universal frequency suitable for every user.
Thayers Exfoliating 2% AHA Facial Pads The brand lists glycolic and lactic acids, a 2% AHA concentration, 60 pre-soaked pads, and a dual-sided texture. Its page includes an AHA sun-sensitivity warning. Source: Thayers A clearly disclosed AHA concentration and package count make the label easier to assess. Because the pad is dual-sided, use a light touch rather than scrubbing. The brand reports clinical testing for texture and tone, but the cited page passage does not give study design or sample details; treat those results as a manufacturer claim, not independent confirmation.
Medicube Zero Pore Pads 2.0 NBC Select includes it as its best overall toner pad; the brand describes an AHA/BHA formula and dual-textured pad. Source: NBC Select Source: Medicube America Its pore-focused positioning may interest people concerned about congestion. Pore and timeline benefits on the brand page are manufacturer claims, not independent clinical conclusions.
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Maximum Strength Acne Treatment Pads NBC Select includes it in an acne-prone-skin category. Source: NBC Select Before using it as an exfoliant, check the current Drug Facts label for its active ingredient, directions, and warnings. The cited product description alone does not establish the current active ingredient or concentration.

NBC Select also lists Anua Heartleaf 77 Toner Pads as an option for sensitive skin, but the cited excerpt does not establish that the product contains exfoliating acids. It should not be treated as an exfoliating-pad recommendation on that evidence alone.

How to choose a pad for your skin

Start with the concern, not the “best overall” label

  • Surface texture or uneven-looking tone: Look for an AHA such as glycolic or lactic acid, and check its concentration and use instructions.
  • Pore congestion: Salicylic acid may be relevant because it is oil-soluble. Verify the actual active ingredients rather than relying only on a pore-focused name or claim.
  • Sensitive or easily irritated skin: Consider whether an acid product is appropriate at all. A sensitive-skin label is not a guarantee that a formula will suit you; check the ingredient list and stop if irritation develops.

Check texture and the rest of the formula

A textured pad adds friction as well as any chemical exfoliation from its ingredients. Avoid pressing hard or repeatedly rubbing the same area, especially if your skin is sensitive. Also check the full ingredient list, fragrance, moisturizer or soothing ingredients, and whether the product is one-step or multi-step. A pad’s texture or extra ingredients do not establish that it will work better for you.

Follow the product’s own directions

Use the labeled directions for application and frequency rather than borrowing the schedule of another pad. The available examples do not provide comparable current prices or enough consistent label details for a reliable value ranking.

How often should you use exfoliating pads?

There is no single frequency that fits every formula and skin type. In ELLE’s 2026 guide, dermatologist Marisa Garshick suggests starting one to three times per week and adjusting to the skin’s response. In Allure’s February 2026 guide, dermatologist Claire Wolinsky suggests two days per week for beginners. These are different clinicians’ starting suggestions, not universal prescriptions; product directions and individual tolerance matter. ELLE’s guidance and Allure’s guidance both caution against treating exfoliation as a more-is-better step.

How to use exfoliating pads more safely

  1. Read the label first. Confirm the active ingredients, application method, frequency, and warnings for that specific product.
  2. Introduce it cautiously. Start less often than you might be tempted to, and pay attention to irritation or excessive dryness. Follow the product’s directions if they are more specific.
  3. Use a gentle pass. Do not scrub with a textured pad. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends gentle exfoliation suited to your skin type and warns that aggressive exfoliation can contribute to irritation and dark spots, especially in people prone to pigmentation after inflammation. AAD guidance, updated February 6, 2026.
  4. Avoid sensitized or damaged skin. The AAD says not to exfoliate open cuts or wounds or sunburned skin. Retinoid medicines, retinol, and benzoyl peroxide can increase sensitivity; using exfoliants alongside them may worsen dryness or breakouts.
  5. Moisturize afterward and heed sun warnings. The AAD advises moisturizing after exfoliation. Thayers specifically warns that its AHA product may increase sun sensitivity and advises sunscreen after morning use; follow the warning on whichever product you choose.

What “tested and reviewed” means for this comparison

ELLE says its beauty commerce editor personally tested pads and considered performance, ingredients, and frequency. NBC Select says its editors tested toner pads and updated its guide on June 26, 2026. Allure describes evaluating products and considering ingredients, packaging, fragrance, texture, and wear. Those are the respective publishers’ review methods; they are not evidence that the products in this comparison were tested by this article’s writer. See ELLE, NBC Select, and Allure for their reviews.
