The right choice depends first on where you live and which legal entity and futures product you can use, then on the exact contract, its total trading costs, liquidity and margin rules. A platform’s global market count or maximum leverage does not tell you whether its contracts are available to you or suitable for your trade.
Which crypto futures trading platform is best?
For a starting shortlist, a comparison published by Coin Bureau and updated September 29, 2026, assigns different platforms different use cases: Binance for centralized derivatives liquidity, OKX for a broad toolkit, Bybit for active derivatives trading, Deribit for BTC and ETH options, MEXC for altcoin perpetual breadth, Hyperliquid for onchain perpetuals, and Kraken for eligible US access to regulated perpetual products. These are that publisher’s editorial picks, not universal recommendations or independent guarantees of execution quality.
Use those labels to decide which products to investigate—not as a substitute for checking your own eligibility and the contract specifications. “Best” for a US customer seeking a particular eligible futures product is a different question from “best” for a non-US trader comparing altcoin perpetuals or options.
Shortlist by what you need
- Eligible US futures access: Check the exact US offering and eligibility at Kraken or Coinbase. Their cited registrations apply to the named futures entities and products, not every spot service or crypto asset under either brand.
- Broad centralized derivatives selection: Binance, OKX and Bybit are candidates to compare, but confirm that the specific contracts are offered in your jurisdiction and inspect their live costs and order books.
- BTC or ETH options: Deribit is the specialist pick in Coin Bureau’s comparison; verify the option contract, settlement terms and access requirements.
- Altcoin perpetual selection: MEXC is Coin Bureau’s breadth pick. A wide listing count does not establish deep liquidity on any one contract.
- Onchain perpetual trading: Hyperliquid is the comparison’s onchain venue pick. Evaluate the particular market and the venue’s trading and operational risks, not just the category label.
Can I trade crypto futures from my country?
Check jurisdiction before comparing fees or opening an account. A brand may serve different regions through separate legal entities, and eligibility can depend on residency, customer category, onboarding and the specific product. A registration or product available in one region does not mean the same service is available worldwide.

Kraken’s eligibility page, last updated July 28, 2026, treats Kraken Derivatives and Kraken Derivatives US as separate services. It says the US service is for US clients and lists Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Canada, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Libya, New Zealand, Russia, specified Ukrainian regions and the UK among restricted or special-case locations for Kraken Derivatives. The page notes an Australian wholesale-client exception through an Australian licensed broker and a professional-client route for UK access. These details are a dated snapshot, not a substitute for the live eligibility terms.
Coinbase’s US-regulated derivatives service is described as available to eligible residents in the US, Canada and most EEA countries, subject to onboarding and eligibility requirements. Check the current terms for your residence and customer status rather than inferring access from this broad description.

What should you compare before choosing?
Compare the contract you intend to trade, not just the exchange name. “Futures” can mean perpetual contracts, dated futures or options, with different expiry, settlement, collateral, market hours and fee mechanics. Even on the same platform, contract size and margin requirements can differ by instrument.
| Comparison point | What to verify | Evidence-based example |
|---|---|---|
| Location and eligibility | Resident country or state, retail or professional status, onboarding, legal entity and current terms. | Kraken separates its US derivatives service from Kraken Derivatives; Coinbase describes eligibility for its US-regulated derivatives service by region and onboarding. Details are in the providers’ current terms. |
| Contract type and terms | Perpetual, dated future or option; underlying asset; settlement and collateral; expiry; trading hours. | Coinbase calls its US product perpetual-style futures, but says the contracts expire after five years. Its current contracts are due to expire December 20, 2030. |
| Contract size | Notional value per contract and minimum order size; confirm on the order ticket and current specification. | Coinbase Help lists Nano Bitcoin futures at 1/100 BTC per contract and Nano Ether futures at 1/10 ETH per contract. |
| All-in cost | Your maker/taker tier, spread, likely slippage for your order size, funding and any applicable margin or financing charges. | Coinbase says its perpetual-style futures have hourly funding payments. The payment direction depends on the funding rate and position. |
| Liquidity | Order-book depth, spread, volume or open interest for the exact contract, and expected slippage at your size. | The cited 2026 comparisons do not establish one independent, consistently measured liquidity ranking across every contract. Exchange-level rankings are not a guarantee of execution quality for a particular market. |
| Margin and liquidation | Initial and maintenance margin, isolated or cross settings, collateral offsets, liquidation process and any intraday, overnight or weekend changes. | Coinbase says its leverage depends on notional value and initial margin, and that requirements can vary by contract and change across intraday and overnight periods. This is specific to its offering. |
| Protections and operating details | Which entity holds or intermediates the futures account, applicable disclosures and customer protections, dispute process, and available order or account tools. | Coinbase identifies Coinbase Financial Markets as a CFTC-registered FCM and NFA member for its US futures balances; that does not make its spot products or exchanges CFTC-regulated futures products. |
How do I compare crypto futures trading costs?
Start with the fee tier that would actually apply to your account and contract. A published maker or taker rate is only one part of cost. A limit order may not fill, while a marketable order can cross the spread and incur slippage; for a perpetual, funding payments can also add to or subtract from the cost of holding a position.

- BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
- NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
- BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.
Funding is exchanged between traders according to the product’s rules; it is not simply another fixed trading commission. Coinbase describes hourly funding for its perpetual-style US futures, with the payment direction depending on the rate and position. Check the current rate, payment schedule and calculation for the exact contract before holding a position across funding times.
Kraken Learn’s page dated June 19, 2026, reported volume-dependent starting futures fees for Kraken of 0.020% maker and 0.050% taker. Those are the publisher’s dated starting figures, not a promise of your account’s rate or a complete estimate of execution cost. Fees, funding and spreads can change, so compare the current schedule and actual contract conditions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much leverage can I use?
Do not choose a platform by its maximum leverage figure. Leverage is determined by the contract, position size or risk tier, margin requirements, time and jurisdiction; a maximum is neither available on every market nor a recommendation. Higher leverage means a smaller adverse move can have a greater effect on your margin and position.
Coinbase explains leverage as contract notional divided by initial margin. It says requirements vary by contract and may change between intraday and overnight periods. Coinbase’s US derivatives documentation warns: “The risk of loss using leverage can exceed your initial investment amount.” That warning is specific to the cited product, but the broader lesson is to understand liquidation rules and potential losses before trading any leveraged futures.

For context only, Kraken Learn’s June 19, 2026 comparison reported up to 100x on certain Kraken assets or regions, up to 125x on Binance BTC, up to 100x on Bybit BTC, and up to 10x crypto leverage on Coinbase Advanced. These are publisher-reported, dated maximums—not current account offers, comparable risk limits, or recommendations. Confirm the live limit for the exact instrument and region.
What do dated platform statistics tell you—and what do they not?
The following figures come from Kraken Learn’s comparison dated June 19, 2026. They are the publisher’s snapshots, not independent real-time measurements or stable promises. Market counts and leverage limits may vary by product and region.
| Platform | Kraken Learn snapshot, June 19, 2026 | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Kraken | 300+ perpetual markets; up to 100x on certain assets or in certain regions; volume-dependent starting futures fees of 0.020% maker and 0.050% taker. | Check regional eligibility, the specific contract, your fee tier and current margin limits. |
| Binance | 300+ perpetual markets; up to 125x on BTC. | The reported maximum applies to BTC in the publisher’s snapshot, not every market or region. |
| Bybit | 400+ perpetual markets; up to 100x on BTC. | The market count and BTC maximum do not establish access or liquidity for a particular user or contract. |
| Coinbase Advanced | BTC and ETH futures; up to 10x crypto leverage in the comparison. | Check the exact Coinbase product and eligibility; this comparison figure is not a universal account limit. |
Market counts cannot tell you whether the contract you want has a tight spread or enough depth for your order. The cited sources do not provide a single, consistently measured live-liquidity ranking for every contract across these venues. Compare the actual order book, spread and expected slippage for your own market and trade size.
How to make a practical choice
- Confirm access: Check the provider’s live eligibility page and terms for your country, customer status and intended futures product.
- Identify the contract: Decide whether you need a perpetual, dated future or option, then verify its underlying, expiry, settlement, collateral and contract multiplier.
- Estimate the full cost: Check your applicable fee tier, spread, expected slippage and, for perpetuals, funding. Consider how long you expect to hold the position.
- Inspect liquidity and margin: Review the order book for the exact contract and your order size; read initial and maintenance margin, liquidation and any time-based requirement changes.
- Read the product disclosures: Confirm which entity provides the futures service and what the relevant risk and customer-protection terms actually cover.
Recheck market access, fees, funding, contract multipliers, liquidity and margin rules before placing a trade. These are among the details most likely to change.
