As of October 3, 2026, Bankrate’s comparison lists a five-year CD at 4.95% APY, a two-year CD at 4.40%, and a one-year CD at 4.25%. The highest rate may require a larger minimum deposit or a longer commitment, so compare the term, minimum, and early-withdrawal rules—not just the APY. These are dated comparison listings, not confirmed live offers from each bank; check the issuing institution’s current terms before applying.

How to choose among the listed rates
Start with the date you will need the money
A CD generally trades access for a fixed return during the term. Choose a maturity that aligns with when you expect to use the funds; a higher APY is less useful if accessing the money early would trigger a penalty or disrupt your plans. If timing is uncertain, investigate shorter terms, a no-penalty product, or staggered maturities rather than assuming the longest term is best. The available comparison does not establish current terms for every flexible-access alternative.

Compare the minimum with the rate advantage
Popular Direct’s listed rates carry a $10,000 minimum for the six-month, one-year, and five-year terms shown. Other listings have smaller stated minimums, or no minimum shown. Decide whether tying up the required opening balance is worthwhile for the rate and term; do not treat “no minimum shown” as a verified account requirement.
Check the full early-withdrawal and maturity rules
Early-withdrawal penalties can reduce interest earned and may affect the amount returned. Capital One’s official CD page says its penalty is three to six months of interest depending on term; that is a Capital One disclosure, not a penalty schedule for the other institutions in the table. Its page also describes a CD as earning a fixed rate while funds remain deposited. Before opening any CD, read that institution’s current penalty, renewal, grace-period, and maturity instructions.

Capital One says the APY shown for each of its terms was effective October 1, 2026. Because the comparison table above does not include Capital One’s rates, do not infer or substitute a rate from that separate page. See Capital One’s official CD page for its current terms and disclosures.
Verify deposit protection before funding an account
Check the issuing institution’s FDIC or NCUA insurance status and make sure your combined deposits remain within applicable limits for your ownership category. The available rate listings do not establish insurance details for every named institution. Confirm the institution and how your accounts are categorized before moving a large balance; a brand or product name alone is not enough to establish coverage.

The FDIC national rates and rate caps page cited here is dated March 16, 2026, so it is historical context—not an October 2026 national average. It does not verify whether a listed CD is insured. See the FDIC national rates page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to confirm before applying
- The live APY and the date it took effect, along with whether it applies to your deposit amount.
- The minimum opening balance, eligibility requirements, and any applicable account conditions.
- The early-withdrawal penalty and how it affects interest or principal.
- What happens at maturity, including the renewal process and the time available to withdraw or change instructions.
- The issuing institution’s deposit-insurance status and how the balance combines with your other deposits under the relevant ownership category.
A separate comparison says its rates were checked against bank pages or published bank data on October 1, 2026, and that it did not open or test accounts. That distinction is useful: rate comparisons can help identify candidates, but they are not account testing or a substitute for current bank disclosures.
