As of August 18, 2026, the prices below are historical U.S. snapshots, not live offers. The standout unlocked bargain was the Pixel 9 Pro XL at $699 from Amazon; the Pixel 9a was the sensible budget pick; and Pixel 10 discounts offered newer hardware for buyers willing to pay more. Verizon’s “free” Pixel 10 had the biggest headline value, but only with a qualifying new line and Unlimited plan.

Best overall unlocked deal: Pixel 9 Pro XL for $699
TechRadar called the Amazon Pixel 9 Pro XL its personal pick for the best Black Friday phone deal for most people: $699 instead of $1,099. That judgment makes sense on effective price, not merely percentage discount. The phone paired flagship-class cameras, a large display and substantial battery capacity with an outright price below the reported Pixel 10 Pro XL Cyber Monday price of about $949.
Choose the 9 Pro XL when you want a large premium phone, do not need the newest generation, and prefer a straightforward unlocked purchase. The lower upfront cost also avoids the long service commitment associated with many carrier promotions.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
The Pixel 10 Pro XL becomes the rational upgrade when its later release date, newer exclusive software features and longer remaining support runway matter more than roughly $250 in reported price difference. If you plan to keep the phone for many years, that additional runway can justify paying more.
Best budget choice: Pixel 9a, or spend more on the Pixel 9?
Pixel 9a
The Pixel 9a was the lowest sensible entry into the modern Pixel range. WIRED listed it at $430 in its Dec. 1 Cyber Monday article, while PhoneArena’s Nov. 28 coverage described a $150 reduction. Those figures are snapshots of a moving promotion, not contradictory permanent prices. The 9a suited buyers who wanted Google’s software, wireless charging and long support at the lowest reported event prices.
Rank #2
- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Pixel 9
Coverage placed the Pixel 9 around $499, including a reported $300 reduction. The extra spend over the 9a bought a more premium build, stronger cameras and more flagship-like performance. For photography, display quality and demanding apps, that relatively small gap could be worthwhile; for calls, messaging and everyday use, the 9a preserved more cash.
Best newer-generation value: Pixel 10
Pixel 10 discounts were notable because they applied to a newly released family rather than only clearance inventory. PhoneArena reported $250 off the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro, and $300 off the Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pro Fold. WIRED’s Dec. 1 snapshot listed approximately $649 for Pixel 10, $799 for Pro, $949 for Pro XL and $1,499 for Pro Fold. Retailer, storage and date explain why prices differ.

At a reported $599–$649, it cost more than a discounted Pixel 9a or 9, but reduced the age gap that made the 9 Pro XL such a strong value alternative.
Premium Pixel 10 options
Pixel 10 Pro
The Pro targeted buyers who wanted premium camera and AI features in the smaller Pro format. Its reported Cyber Monday price of about $799 was materially above the Pixel 9 Pro XL deal, so it made sense chiefly for shoppers prioritizing the newer generation and a less oversized design.
Rank #4
- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
- Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]
Pixel 10 Pro XL
The Pro XL offered the largest display and battery in the current generation. At about $949 in WIRED’s snapshot, it was a compelling flagship discount in isolation, but the Pixel 9 Pro XL at $699 delivered the stronger value calculation for anyone satisfied with the previous generation.
Best foldable deal: Pixel 10 Pro Fold at $1,499
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s reported $300 reduction to about $1,499 was the clearest new-generation foldable highlight. It was not the best value for most shoppers: conventional Pixels cost far less, and foldables expose owners to greater durability, repair-cost and long-term ownership concerns.

Buy it for the folding large-screen format and Google software, not simply because the percentage discount looks attractive. WIRED considered Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 thinner and lighter while still viewing Google’s model as reasonable for buyers who preferred its software.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Verizon’s “free” Pixel 10 was a different kind of deal
Verizon advertised a free 128GB Pixel 10 with a new line on an eligible Unlimited plan, plus possible Pixel Tablet, Pixel Watch and gift-card incentives. That was a carrier-switching promotion, not a better unlocked price than $699 or $649 retail offers.
- Confirm the required Unlimited plan, new-line eligibility and promotion duration.
- Calculate monthly service, activation, taxes and fees against your current plan.
- Check whether the phone is delivered through bill credits, remains carrier-locked, or creates repayment obligations if you cancel.
- Value any tablet, watch or gift card separately rather than counting its headline retail value as cash savings.
The offer was potentially excellent for someone already planning to move to Verizon. It was usually poor economics for an existing customer with inexpensive service or for anyone who wanted an unlocked phone.
Clearance extreme: Pixel 7 Pro at Woot
PhoneArena reported the Pixel 7 Pro as low as $349.99 at Woot. That was the lowest upfront price in the roundup, but it belonged in an “only if” category. The processor, camera processing, battery condition and remaining support horizon are all older than the Pixel 9 and 10 families.

Before buying, establish whether the unit was new, refurbished, open-box or clearance stock, and read the applicable warranty and return terms. Do not compare that price directly with a new, fully warrantied Pixel 10 without labeling the condition difference.
Quick Recap
Pixel 9 versus Pixel 10: which historical deal made sense?
- Save the most on a premium phone: choose the Pixel 9 Pro XL at the reported $699.
- Get the lowest modern-Pixel cost: choose the Pixel 9a, checking the date-specific price.
- Want newer-generation hardware: choose Pixel 10 at the reported $599–$649 range.
- Prioritize premium cameras: compare Pixel 10 Pro or Pro XL pricing with the $699 9 Pro XL before paying the difference.

- Already switching carriers: calculate Verizon’s total plan cost before accepting the “free” phone.
Checks that prevent a bad deal
- Verify unlocked status, storage capacity and the exact sale date.
- Confirm whether the seller is Amazon itself or a marketplace third party.
- Read condition, warranty and return-period language, especially for Woot and clearance listings.
- Separate instant discounts from trade-in credits, financing and bill credits.
- For carrier offers, record the required line, plan, credit period and cancellation consequences.
- Compare total ownership cost, support runway, camera needs, display size and repair exposure—not just the percentage discount.
