The strongest technology promotions reported during the 2022 U.S. holiday season included Amazon streaming and smart-home devices, Apple audio and tablets, Google phones and Chromecast hardware, and Amazon’s Kindle Oasis. Examples included a Fire TV Stick 4K for $24.99, AirPods Pro (2nd generation) for about $200, a 2021 iPad for $270, and an Apple Pencil (2nd generation) for $89. These were temporary 2022 offers—not current prices—and they came from different retailers, dates and deal roundups.
What the 2022 deals actually covered
Contemporary Black Friday and Cyber Monday coverage included smart displays, streaming sticks, e-readers, phones, tablets, wearables, headphones and networking equipment. The figures below are historical U.S. prices reported by the named retailer or publication in 2022. They should not be read as a single national price list or as evidence that the same products are discounted now.
| Product and exact generation | Reported 2022 price | Reported regular price or saving | Publisher or retailer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Echo Show 15 | $169.99 | $80 off a stated $249.99 original price | Amazon, 2022 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K | $24.99 | From $49.99 | NBC Select, 2022 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | $20 off | Sale price not stated in Amazon’s recap | Amazon, 2022 |
| AirPods Pro (2nd generation) | $200 | $50 discount, according to Engadget | Engadget, 2022 |
| AirPods Pro | $199 | From $250 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| 2021 10.2-inch iPad | $270 | Described as 18% off its usual rate | Engadget, 2022 |
| Apple Pencil (2nd generation) | $89 | Regular price not stated | Engadget, 2022 |
| Kindle Oasis | $255 | From $350 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| Kindle Oasis with home-screen ads | $185 | From $280 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| Chromecast with Google TV 4K | $40 | From $50 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| Chromecast with Google TV HD | $20 | From $30 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| Google Pixel 7 | $500 | From $600 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
| Google Pixel 7 Pro | $750 | From $900 | TechCrunch, 2022 |
The two AirPods figures are close but not identical: TechCrunch reported $199, while Engadget listed $200 for the second-generation model. The difference may reflect retailer or update timing, so each amount should remain attributed rather than averaged.

Echo and Fire TV devices
Amazon’s own 2022 recap listed the Echo Show 15 at $169.99, an $80 reduction from its stated $249.99 original price. The same recap listed $25 off the Echo Dot and $20 off the Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

Amazon separately advertised up to 70% off selected Alexa-enabled Echo and Fire TV products. “Up to” described the maximum discount on selected items, not a guarantee that every Echo or Fire TV device received that reduction.
Do not confuse the two Fire TV Stick models
NBC Select reported the Fire TV Stick 4K at $24.99, reduced from $49.99. Amazon’s announcement referred to the different Fire TV Stick 4K Max and stated a $20 discount without giving the same sale price. Comparing the two as though they were one product produces a misleading result.
Other Amazon categories
Amazon advertised up to 60% off selected Ring and Blink security devices and bundles, and up to 40% off selected eero mesh Wi-Fi systems. It also cited up to 40% off selected Bose, Sony, JBL, Skullcandy and Shokz audio products. These were category-level ceilings for qualifying items, not independently verified savings across each brand.
Apple, Google and Amazon device highlights
Audio
AirPods Pro deals clustered around $200. TechCrunch reported $199 from $250, while Engadget reported $200 and identified the product as the second-generation AirPods Pro. Because the reports came from separate publications, the retailer, exact listing and update time matter when reconstructing the offer.

Tablet and stylus
Engadget reported the 2021 10.2-inch iPad at $270, described as 18% below its usual rate. It also listed the Apple Pencil (2nd generation) at $89. The iPad’s year and screen size are important: the deal was for the 2021 model, not an unspecified current-generation iPad.
Phones and streaming hardware from Google
TechCrunch listed the Chromecast with Google TV 4K at $40 from $50 and the HD version at $20 from $30. Its phone examples were the Pixel 7 at $500 from $600 and Pixel 7 Pro at $750 from $900. Storage configuration, retailer and availability were not established in the reported figures, so those details should be checked before using the prices for a like-for-like comparison.

Kindle Oasis
TechCrunch reported two Kindle Oasis configurations: $255 from $350, and $185 from $280 for the version displaying ads on the home screen. The ad-supported and ad-free versions are not interchangeable; the lower price came with that explicit home-screen-ad qualification.
When Black Friday and Cyber Monday ran in 2022
Amazon’s schedule
Amazon said its Black Friday event ran Thursday, November 24 through Friday, November 25, 2022. Its Cyber Monday event ran Saturday, November 26 through Monday, November 28. Amazon’s announcement therefore treated Cyber Monday as a three-day weekend event rather than a single-day promotion.
Walmart’s earlier rollout
Walmart announced three “Black Friday Deals for Days” online starts—November 7, November 14 and November 21—with the program culminating in Cyber Monday on November 28. Walmart+ members received early online access to the events. Walmart U.S. executive Charles Redfield described the program as helping customers find gifts and savings; that was a retailer promotional statement, not an independent evaluation of prices.

How Cyber Monday differed
Engadget observed at the time that Cyber Monday technology shopping was largely an extension of Black Friday: many discounts continued, while some new offers appeared. That describes the publication’s contemporary view of the 2022 technology market, not a rule that applies to every retailer or year.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to judge whether a 2022 discount was meaningful
1. Match the exact model and generation
Record the model name, generation, screen size, storage, connectivity and whether accessories or advertising restrictions apply. The Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max, the two Chromecast versions, the 2021 iPad and the two Kindle Oasis configurations demonstrate why a broad product name is insufficient.
2. Preserve the retailer’s price basis
Keep the sale price beside the stated regular price and the source that reported it. A retailer’s “original” price, a publication’s “usual rate” and a percentage ceiling such as “up to 70% off” may use different comparison bases. The figures above are reported promotional claims, not recalculated independent savings.

3. Check historical price movement
TechCrunch recommended using a historical tracker such as CamelCamelCamel to test whether an Amazon discount was genuinely unusual and to watch for older hardware in a sale. It also cautioned that some televisions can be repackaged under new model numbers. NBC Select said its editors checked listed deals with CamelCamelCamel and Honey and found each at its lowest price in at least three months; that is NBC Select’s description of its process, not a separate test of every deal here.
4. Check timing, membership and stock conditions
Amazon and Walmart used different event calendars, and Walmart’s early access was tied to Walmart+ membership. A price could also change during a multi-day event or disappear before the advertised end date. Historical reporting does not establish that any listed item remained available for the full event.
5. Buy only an item you already need
TechCrunch’s Greg Kumparak put the budgeting principle plainly: “Should you buy a bunch of stuff just because it’s discounted? Probably not! Can you use it as an opportunity to save some money on stuff you already wanted anyway? Absolutely.” A low historical price is useful only when the product fits a planned purchase and the exact specification meets the need.
What these deals do—and do not—tell you today
The reported prices document the U.S. 2022 holiday season. They do not establish a live offer, a current product generation, or a guaranteed price in a later Black Friday sale. Use them as historical benchmarks: identify the exact model, retain the source and date, compare against a price history, and account for memberships or configuration differences before calling a deal genuinely strong.
Quick Recap
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
