AT&T’s iPhone 17 Deal Explained: How to Get Up to $1,100 Off With a Trade-In

AT&T’s iPhone 17 promotion can deliver up to $1,100 off the Pro and Pro Max, but the discount comes as 36 monthly bill credits—not an instant reduction. Here’s who qualifies and what the deal really costs.

AT&T’s iPhone 17 promotion was real, but the original preorder window is over. Preorders opened on September 12, 2025, and general availability began September 19, 2025. Customers ordering now should use AT&T’s current iPhone deals page rather than a preorder link.

The headline discount—up to $1,100 on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—is generally delivered as promotional bill credits over 36 months. It is not an instant $1,100 reduction, and it does not eliminate AT&T plan charges, taxes, fees, or the obligation to keep qualifying service.

The short version

Model Maximum launch-announcement discount How the discount works
iPhone 17 Pro Up to $1,100 36 monthly bill credits
iPhone 17 Pro Max Up to $1,100 36 monthly bill credits
iPhone 17 Up to $830 36 monthly bill credits
iPhone Air Up to $830 36 monthly bill credits

The $830 figures come from AT&T’s launch announcement. AT&T’s current offer terms control if the amounts, eligible models, or trade-in requirements have changed.

Who can get the full $1,100?

AT&T’s highest promotional tier requires an eligible trade-in and qualifying service. The offer terms list an iPhone 14 Pro Max or newer, excluding the iPhone 16e, in any condition as one example. Another smartphone may qualify if it meets AT&T’s stated minimum trade-in-value threshold, listed in the terms as $230.

Apple iPhone 17, US Version, 256GB, eSIM, Mist Blue- Unlocked (Renewed Premium)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

“Any condition” does not mean every damaged or older phone qualifies. The device must still be an eligible model or meet the applicable value requirement, and AT&T must be able to verify its model, IMEI, account status, and trade-in details. Enter the exact phone model, storage capacity, and condition into AT&T’s trade-in tool before relying on the advertised maximum.

Lower tiers may apply to devices such as an iPhone 13 Pro or newer, or to other smartphones meeting lower minimum-value requirements. The tier displayed during checkout is the one to use for your calculation.

How the $1,100 discount is paid

AT&T normally applies the promotion through a qualifying 0% APR, 36-month installment plan. The device is financed at its regular installment amount, and promotional credits reduce the bill over time. Credits generally begin within the first three billing cycles, so the first bills may not show the full discount immediately.

For example, $1,100 divided across 36 months equals approximately $30.56 per month in promotional credits. If a particular phone configuration costs $33.34 per month, the effective device payment after the credits begin would be about $2.78 per month. That is only an illustration: storage, model, retail price, credit qualification, and the current offer determine the actual installment.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro, US Version, 512GB, eSIM, Silver- Unlocked (Renewed Premium)

The phone is therefore not “free” at checkout. You may still owe tax on its full retail price, a down payment, an activation or upgrade fee, and all wireless-service charges.

Plan and line requirements

The promotion requires eligible postpaid voice-and-data service. AT&T’s terms have listed a qualifying new-customer single-line plan starting at $75.99 per month before discounts, taxes, and fees. Your actual price can differ based on line count, autopay or paperless-billing discounts, employer discounts, promotional pricing, and taxes and fees.

The launch announcement said the offer was available to new and existing customers and did not require the most expensive unlimited plan. That does not mean every prepaid, grandfathered, legacy, or business plan automatically qualifies. Confirm eligibility for your specific line and plan in checkout or with AT&T before ordering.

Existing customers may be able to upgrade an eligible line. New customers may need to activate a new line. Port-in promotions can have separate rules. AT&T’s terms also state that, for a new line, canceling another line within 90 days can cause promotional credits to stop.

  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

How to order from AT&T

  1. Open AT&T’s iPhone deals page.
  2. Select the iPhone 17-series model and storage capacity.
  3. Choose the new-customer, upgrade, or existing-account path that applies to you.
  4. Select the qualifying AT&T installment option.
  5. Enter your current phone’s exact model, storage, and condition in the trade-in flow.
  6. Confirm the displayed trade-in tier and estimated monthly credits.
  7. Review the plan, line requirements, device payment, full-price tax, and activation or upgrade fee.
  8. Read the promotional disclosure before submitting the order.
  9. Back up, sign out of your Apple Account, disable Find My and Activation Lock, erase the old phone, and return it according to AT&T’s instructions.

AT&T’s original launch announcement listed AT&T.com, the myAT&T app, and AT&T retail stores as ordering channels. Keep the order confirmation, screenshots of the quoted promotion, IMEI information, shipping receipt, and trade-in tracking number.

Upfront and ongoing costs

  • Sales tax: AT&T states that tax on the phone’s full retail price is due at purchase.
  • Down payment: $0 down is available only to customers who meet AT&T’s credit requirements.
  • Device payments: The installment amount depends on the model and storage configuration; AT&T’s terms cite payments of up to $55.56 per month depending on the device.
  • Wireless service: You must continue paying the qualifying postpaid plan for the promotion.
  • Activation or upgrade fee: A fee may apply.
  • Optional add-ons: Insurance, AppleCare+, accessories, and Next Up Anytime increase the total cost.

Next Up Anytime is shown by AT&T at $10 per month and may be useful for someone who wants earlier upgrades. It is a separate paid add-on with its own conditions; do not assume it automatically preserves every remaining promotional credit.

What happens if you leave AT&T or pay off the phone?

This is the key financial risk. If qualifying service is canceled, promotional credits generally stop, and the remaining device balance becomes your responsibility. After 12 months, for example, you may have received only 12 of 36 credits while still owing the unpaid installment balance.

Paying off the installment agreement or upgrading early can also stop the promotional credits. Before switching carriers, calculate:

Apple iPhone 17, US Version, 256GB, eSIM, Black- Unlocked (Renewed Premium)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.

  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Remaining device balance - remaining promotional credits = potential cost of leaving

A 36-month bill-credit deal makes the most sense only if you expect to keep the line and meet the offer requirements for the full promotional period.

Protect yourself during the trade-in

  • Photograph the phone’s front, back, sides, screen, and any damage.
  • Record the IMEI and the exact model and storage capacity.
  • Sign out of your Apple Account and disable Find My before erasing the phone.
  • Confirm the phone is not reported lost or stolen and is not tied to an unpaid installment agreement.
  • Ship it early enough to meet AT&T’s deadline.
  • Keep the packing and shipping receipt and tracking information.
  • Save the quoted trade-in value and promotional tier.

Credits may be reduced or denied if the submitted device does not match the order, the IMEI differs, Activation Lock remains enabled, the condition was misrepresented, or the trade-in arrives late. If credits do not appear, AT&T’s terms allow up to three billing cycles for them to begin; retain your records while seeking a correction.

AT&T versus buying from Apple

AT&T can be attractive when you already have qualifying service, own a high-value trade-in, want an iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, and expect to stay for 36 months. The carrier subsidy may exceed a standard trade-in offer.

Buying directly from Apple may be better if you want an unlocked-device pathway, plan to change carriers, or already have an inexpensive wireless plan. Apple’s standard iPhone 17 purchase flow displayed Apple Trade In values ranging from $35 to $695, depending on the device and its condition. Apple also offers its own financing, AppleCare+, and iPhone Upgrade Program options.

Compare the full three-year cost, not just the phone payment:

36 months of qualifying service
+ device payments
+ full-price phone tax
+ activation or upgrade fee
+ optional add-ons
- promotional bill credits
- applicable plan discounts

Who should take the AT&T deal?

AT&T is potentially a good fit for an existing customer who can upgrade without moving to a substantially more expensive plan, owns a qualifying trade-in, wants a Pro model, and is comfortable staying with AT&T for three years.

It may be a poor fit if you use prepaid or low-cost service, switch carriers frequently, want to own an unlocked phone outright, upgrade before 36 months, or cannot afford tax on the full retail price at checkout.

Check the live AT&T wireless terms immediately before ordering. Promotions, plan eligibility, trade-in thresholds, fees, and credit amounts can change.
