The ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 OLED UX6404 is a strong compact creator laptop, but “world’s best all-rounder” is too broad a claim. It pairs a vivid 14.5-inch 120 Hz OLED touchscreen with Core i9 and RTX 4070-class options, useful creator ports and a 1.6 kg chassis. The compromises are short-to-average battery life in independent tests, loud fans under sustained load, warm operation and speakers that reviewers found disappointing.
What is the Zenbook Pro 14 OLED UX6404?
It is a 14.5-inch Windows laptop designed to balance creative work, portability and graphics performance. ASUS lists configurations with up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 48 GB of memory and a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The family also includes a 76 Wh battery and weighs 1.6 kg. These are maximum family specifications, not a guarantee that every regional configuration includes every component. ASUS’s specifications and individual retailer listings should be checked for the exact SKU.
Configurations and launch pricing
Review units differed: Tom’s Guide tested a 32 GB RAM/1 TB SSD configuration, while Stuff reviewed 32 GB/2 TB. Tom’s Guide listed a 2023 starting price of $1,799 in the US and £1,999 in the UK; its tested model was $2,099/£2,499. Those are historical review prices, not current quotes or evidence of present stock. Regional configurations and prices vary. Tom’s Guide’s review describes the tested unit, and ASUS’s where-to-buy page can help identify regional sellers.
Is the OLED screen good for creative work?
The screen is one of the laptop’s clearest strengths. ASUS specifies a 14.5-inch, 2880 × 1800 OLED touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, stylus support, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and up to 550 nits peak brightness. Notebookcheck found the panel accurate and very good overall, but noted slight graininess in bright areas and pulse-width modulation (PWM) below 50% brightness. Users sensitive to screen flicker may want to try the display at their usual brightness before buying. Notebookcheck’s review covers its panel assessment.

How well does it handle editing and other demanding work?
The Core i9-13900H and RTX 4070 configuration delivers unusually high performance for a 14-inch laptop. Notebookcheck’s specific test unit scored 10,997 in PCMark 10 Digital Content Creation and 2,254 in CrossMark Creativity. These benchmark results apply to that reviewed configuration and test setup; they are not guaranteed results for every UX6404 or every editing workflow.
The combination should suit demanding photo and video work better than a thin laptop with integrated graphics, while the display’s color coverage and the SD card support are useful for creators. But sustained heavy work has practical costs: Stuff reported dramatically loud fans under demanding loads, along with a restrained power ceiling and cooling that cannot match a dedicated gaming laptop. Simple browsing was quiet in its use. Expect the machine’s compact size to involve a trade-off between portability and sustained performance.

Can the RTX 4070 Zenbook play games?
Yes, the RTX 4070 version can play demanding games, though it is not a substitute for a larger gaming laptop built to sustain higher power. In Notebookcheck’s test, the unit averaged 105.3 fps in The Witcher 3 at 1920 × 1080 on high settings. Stuff reported smooth Resident Evil 3 play at maximum settings and Cyberpunk 2077 averaging above 60 fps with ray tracing. Those are reviewer results for their test configurations, not promises for every game, setting or UX6404 SKU. Fan noise can rise substantially during demanding workloads. Stuff’s review discusses gaming and noise.
How long does the battery last?
Independent reviews found endurance that ranges from average to poor for a premium portable performance laptop. Results differ because the reviewers used different tests and settings; they should not be treated as one directly comparable benchmark.

| Reviewer and test | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Tom’s Guide, continuous browsing at 150 nits (2023) | 6 hours 51 minutes |
| Notebookcheck, Wi-Fi browsing | 7 hours 36 minutes |
| Notebookcheck, H.264 video playback at 60 Hz and controlled brightness | 8.5 hours |
| Notebookcheck, maximum screen brightness | 5 hours 48 minutes |
Notebookcheck also measured about 105 minutes for a full charge. Battery life in your own use will depend on brightness, workload, refresh rate and configuration. If you need to work a full day away from a charger, these results make the UX6404 a less reassuring choice than a machine selected primarily for endurance. Sources: Tom’s Guide and Notebookcheck.
Are the ports and everyday features practical?
Port selection is a strength for a compact creative machine. ASUS lists Thunderbolt 4, full-function USB-C, USB 3.2 Type-A, UHS-II SD, HDMI 2.1 and a headphone jack. Tom’s Guide’s reviewed configuration lists two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, audio and a microSD reader. Because port implementations can vary by configuration or region, check the exact SKU before purchasing, especially if you rely on full-size SD cards. Tom’s Guide found the 1080p IR webcam detailed in low light.

Audio is less impressive: Tom’s Guide judged the speakers behind competitors, a notable limitation for a laptop positioned as an all-rounder. For editing, calls or entertainment where sound quality matters, headphones or external speakers may be preferable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it better than a MacBook Pro 14 or ROG Zephyrus G14?
There is no universal winner without matching configurations and test conditions. The UX6404’s case is its blend of OLED color and refresh rate, discrete graphics, creator-friendly connectivity and relatively low weight. The compromises documented by reviewers are battery endurance, loud fans under load, heat and speaker quality. A dedicated gaming laptop can cool and sustain more power; a laptop chosen for long unplugged sessions may be a better fit if runtime is the priority.

To compare it fairly with a MacBook Pro 14, ROG Zephyrus G14 or another creator laptop, compare the specific configurations on the same workload and measurement method: sustained performance per kilogram, display color and brightness, battery runtime, fan noise and surface temperature, speaker quality, ports, upgradeability, price and regional warranty. Notebookcheck includes comparisons with the MacBook Pro 14, Dell XPS 15 and ROG Zephyrus G14, but those results do not establish a winner for every configuration or buyer.
Quick Recap
Who should buy the UX6404?
- Consider it if you want a portable Windows creator laptop with a high-refresh OLED touchscreen, discrete graphics and a useful mix of ports.
- Look elsewhere if long battery life, quiet sustained workloads or strong built-in speakers are must-haves.
- Check the listing carefully for the exact processor, GPU, memory, SSD, port layout, keyboard region, seller, stock and warranty before paying a premium price.
