The company’s Galleon systems were designed to process data close to where it is generated, rather than send all raw data to a distant cloud. Starlink is the satellite network in the story; it is not the data center itself.
What Armada announced in 2023
In December 2023, news coverage reported that the roughly one-year-old startup had raised more than $55 million. Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Shield Capital, and 8090 Industries led the round, with other investors also participating, according to Data Center Knowledge/Space News. The report did not disclose detailed financing terms or a valuation.
Armada’s stated aim was to bring computing capacity to places such as oil rigs and battlefields, where terrestrial connectivity may be unreliable or unavailable. The 2023 report described Galleon units as roughly shipping-container-sized and about nine meters long; that was the design described at the time, not a description of every system in the company’s later product range.
The company’s pitch was to process information locally, then send selected data over a network link. That can reduce the need to move all raw data across a constrained connection, though the cited announcement did not provide independent performance measurements. The report also described software for managing multiple Starlink deployments across a customer’s business.

How Galleon and Starlink fit together
Galleon is Armada’s modular edge-computing product family. Starlink supplies satellite connectivity; it does not provide the computing hardware that processes data at a remote site. Armada’s current Galleon product page describes configurable compute, networking, storage, heating, and cooling, and a range from a suitcase-sized Beacon to 20-foot Cruiser and 40-foot Triton systems, as well as megawatt-scale Leviathan. Those are company descriptions, not independent benchmarks.
The practical setup depends on the job. A remote site generates data, local compute can analyze or store it, and a network connection can carry results or selected information elsewhere. How much can be processed locally, what power and cooling are needed, and how a system behaves when its link is unavailable all depend on configuration and deployment. The cited sources do not establish a universal setup or performance level.

What was—and was not—known about SpaceX
In the December 2023 coverage, Armada declined to comment on whether it was partnering with SpaceX, and SpaceX did not comment on the venture. The report also said the company had not disclosed a commercial launch timeline. Using Starlink in the product story does not, by itself, establish a formal partnership agreement.
The same article identified co-founder Dan Wright as the company’s leader and reported 60 employees, most based in Bellevue, Washington. Those are historical details from 2023, not current headcount or location figures.

What has happened since the funding announcement
2025: A Galleon delivered for evaluation
In February 2025, Armada announced that it had delivered a Galleon to Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic under a cooperative research and development agreement. The unit was to be tested and evaluated for network management, command and control, and edge-computing applications, according to the company’s announcement. A delivery for evaluation is not evidence, on its own, of operational success or a completed military procurement.
2026: New financing and manufacturing plans
In May 2026, Armada announced a $230 million Series B and said the round brought its total funding to nearly half a billion dollars. It also announced a framework agreement with Johnson Controls concerning a planned Arizona factory for modular data centers. These figures and plans are the company’s statements in its announcement; they describe later developments and should not be read back into the 2023 funding story.

Armada announced Orion in August 2026 as a 10-megawatt member of the Galleon family. Capacity and deployment claims in the company’s announcement are company-stated specifications, not independent measurements.

What a business should assess before considering this kind of system
The 2023 fundraising story was not a consumer buying guide. A business evaluating modular edge infrastructure would need deployment-specific answers on issues the cited announcements do not settle:
- Compute and configuration: Which workloads, storage, networking, and hardware options are supported for the intended site?
- Footprint and transport: Which size is appropriate, and what access, installation, and site-preparation requirements apply?
- Power and cooling: What supply and environmental conditions are needed for continuous operation?
- Connectivity and outages: Which network options are available, what happens during a link interruption, and how is data synchronized afterward?
- Security and data control: How are data access, remote management, and sovereignty requirements handled?
- Deployment evidence: What customer operating history exists for the specific configuration and use case?
Armada’s product page invites prospects to request a demo, but the cited sources do not state current prices or order lead times, and they do not provide independent comparative performance data.
