Some people report receiving checks from the Peters v. Apple settlement, but those reports do not confirm that payments are complete or verify that a particular check or message is genuine. The settlement notice offered eligible claimants a check or ACH transfer if they submitted a payment election by March 1, 2024; that deadline has passed.
What the Peters v. Apple settlement was about
The lawsuit concerned allegations that Apple misrepresented whether third-party App Store subscriptions could be shared through Family Sharing. Apple denied wrongdoing. The parties agreed to a $25 million common fund, as described in the plaintiffs’ 2024 final-approval motion (final-approval motion).
The reported fund amount is not a promised payment to each person. The available materials do not establish an individual payment amount or confirm that distribution is finished.
Who could qualify
The stated eligibility period was June 21, 2015, through January 30, 2019. In general, the class covered qualifying U.S. customers who were enrolled in a Family Sharing group with at least one other person and purchased a third-party app subscription during the relevant period. The full settlement class definition governs edge cases; see the settlement notice and contemporaneous settlement coverage.

How payments were supposed to work
Eligible class members could elect either a check or an ACH transfer. The notice said, “The Settlement Administrator will then issue a check that you can cash or will initiate an ACH transfer” (settlement notice). The payment-election deadline was March 1, 2024, and has passed.
The plaintiffs’ 2024 final-approval motion reported that the administrator had sent 9,572,582 email notices, mailed 888,293 notices, and received 141,861 payment-election forms at that filing stage (final-approval motion). Those are historical figures from the motion, not current totals or proof that payments were issued to everyone who qualified.

If you received a check or payment message
- Check that the payment is connected to the Peters v. Apple settlement and that the recipient information is yours. Do not assume an unsolicited message is genuine just because people report receiving checks.
- Verify the check or message using administrator contact information in the official settlement materials. Do not use an unverified link or provide financial information until you have independently confirmed the contact is legitimate.
- If you elected ACH, check the account details and notices you used when submitting the election. The materials available here do not confirm whether any individual transfer has been made.
If your check is missing, lost, or expired
The settlement notice said a lost or misplaced check could be replaced if the claimant requested a replacement from the administrator before the void date printed on the original check (settlement notice). It does not establish what remedy is available for a check that is already past its void date. For a missing check or a payment-specific question, contact the administrator through contact details verified in the official settlement materials and ask about your individual status.
No authoritative current notice available here confirms that all checks and ACH payments have been issued, or explains the current remedy for an expired check. A 2026 secondary article says the claim period is closed, but that does not establish that distribution is complete (secondary status article).
