Against Apple’s official $599 U.S. launch price, the arithmetic is $599 minus $488.63, or $110.37 saved. “$110 off” is therefore a rounded marketing description rather than an exactly $110 reduction. Apple announced the M4 Mac mini in October 2024 at $599 starting in the United States.

Is this still an Amazon deal?
There is no evidence here that Amazon still offered $488.63 on August 16, 2026. Treat the price as a dated sale, not a current quote. Amazon prices can change by configuration, seller, location, inventory and coupon eligibility.
If you open an Amazon listing, select the exact memory and storage options and confirm the total in your cart. A “starting at” price may belong to a different configuration or disappear before checkout.

Apple’s specifications identify the base machine as an M4 desktop with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory and a 256GB SSD. The redesigned enclosure is approximately 5 by 5 inches, substantially smaller than the previous design. Front-facing ports make it easier to connect temporary storage, cameras or headphones. Apple positioned the October 2024 model as an Apple Intelligence-capable desktop; actual feature availability depends on operating-system version, language and region.

What is not included
This is not an all-in-one computer. The box does not supply a monitor, keyboard, mouse or trackpad, webcam, or external storage. You may also need a display cable or adapter for your particular monitor. The built-in system speaker is available, but there are no integrated display speakers or camera.
Is the 256GB model worth buying?
At the historical sale price, the base model offered unusually strong performance per dollar. Its 16GB memory is more practical for multitasking than an 8GB entry-level computer, but storage is harder to stretch. macOS, applications, photos, project files, games, virtual machines and local media can consume 256GB quickly.

- You mainly browse, email, stream and use cloud applications.
- You already own a fast external SSD or plan to add one.
- Your photo and video libraries stay in the cloud or on network storage.
- You want the lowest entry price and can manage storage deliberately.
Pay for 512GB or more when
- You keep a large local photo or video library.
- You use several development SDKs, simulators, containers or virtual machines.
- You edit media from the internal drive or install many large applications and games.
- You want to avoid external storage for the computer’s expected lifespan.
Memory and internal storage are not practical user-upgrade paths, so configure the machine for your expected workload at purchase. The 512GB deal reported by MacRumors was $689.99 only after an on-page coupon was applied.

Apple lists a refurbished M4 Mac mini with 16GB memory and 256GB SSD at its official refurbished store. Confirm current price, stock, condition and warranty terms; refurbished inventory is not equivalent to a new Amazon unit.

MacBook
A MacBook costs more as a computer-only comparison but includes the display, keyboard, trackpad, battery and portability. It becomes financially sensible when buying those components separately would approach the laptop’s price.
iMac
An iMac is the simpler all-in-one option because its display and input devices are integrated. The Mac mini remains more flexible and potentially cheaper for anyone who already has a suitable monitor.
Budget for the complete setup
A new Mac mini buyer may also need a 4K monitor, keyboard, pointing device, display cable, external SSD and possibly a USB-C hub or dock. Apple’s October 2024 announcement listed launch prices of $99 for Magic Keyboard, $149 for Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, $179 for the Touch ID keyboard with numeric keypad, $129 for Magic Trackpad and $79 for Magic Mouse; those are dated announcement prices, not verified August 2026 prices.
