Apple’s $95 Million Siri Settlement: Who Qualified and What to Do About Missing Payments

Apple’s Siri settlement was real, but it was not an admission of wrongdoing. New claims are closed; people who already filed can request payment reissuance by September 3, 2026.

Updated August 18, 2026: Apple agreed to fund a $95 million class-action settlement over allegations that Siri sometimes activated unintentionally and captured or shared private communications. The original claim deadline was July 2, 2025, so new claims are generally closed. If you already filed and your payment was lost, expired, returned or sent to an unusable account, you can request reissuance through the official administrator at LopezVoiceAssistantSettlement.com/my-claim by September 3, 2026.

What the Siri settlement means now

This is Lopez v. Apple Inc., Case No. 4:19-cv-04577-JSW, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Apple agreed to create a $95 million, all-cash, non-reversionary common fund to resolve the case after the settlement was reached on December 31, 2024. Apple denied wrongdoing and did not admit liability.

The settlement administrator says initial claimant payments have expired. The remaining process is payment reissuance for people who already submitted valid claims—not a new opportunity to join the case.

What plaintiffs alleged

According to the lawsuit, Siri could activate without a user intentionally saying the activation phrase or deliberately invoking the assistant. Plaintiffs alleged that those activations could result in private or confidential conversations being recorded or transmitted, and that Apple retained or shared some recordings with third parties for purposes such as quality review. Those are allegations, not a court finding that Apple unlawfully listened to users.

The case ended in a settlement rather than a trial. Apple maintained that it did nothing improper or unlawful. The Associated Press describes the allegations and Apple’s position in its settlement overview.

Who could qualify

A claimant generally had to satisfy every part of the settlement definition:

  • Siri Voice Assistant – Control music, smart home devices, and get information hands-free.

  • Be a current or former owner or purchaser of a covered Siri-enabled device in the United States or its territories.
  • Have Siri enabled on the device.
  • Experience an unintended Siri activation during the period from September 17, 2014, through December 31, 2024.
  • Believe that the activation occurred while a conversation intended to be private or confidential was taking place.
  • Confirm the relevant facts under oath on the claim form.

The covered device list included iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch and Apple TV. Owning one of these products was not enough by itself; the claimed unintended activation and private-conversation circumstances were essential.

How the $95 million fund was distributed

The $95 million figure is the gross settlement fund, not the amount divided directly among claimants. Court-approved attorneys’ fees, service awards, administration expenses and other permitted deductions reduced the net amount available for payments.

Payment rule What it meant
Per-device ceiling Up to $20 for each qualifying Siri device, subject to a pro-rata reduction if valid claims exceeded the net fund.
Device limit Up to five devices per claimant, creating a theoretical maximum of $100 before any adjustment.
Actual payment Depended on the number of valid claims and deductions from the common fund; $20 was not guaranteed.

The settlement did not operate as a data-breach compensation program. It addressed alleged unintended Siri activations, not a reported theft of Social Security numbers, passwords or financial credentials.

How to spot settlement scams

  • A legitimate reissuance request does not require a fee.
  • Use the exact domain LopezVoiceAssistantSettlement.com, not a lookalike site or a paid claim-filing service.
  • Never provide an Apple ID password, Social Security number or bank-login credentials to someone who contacts you about this case.
  • A message mentioning Apple is not proof that it is genuine; verify it through the administrator’s website and contact details.

What class members gave up

People who stayed in the settlement class and did not validly opt out became bound by the release provisions. In general, they cannot bring separate litigation against Apple over the released claims covered by this case. Those who opted out were not eligible for settlement benefits but were not bound by that release.

What happened to Siri recordings

Settlement materials described Apple’s agreement to permanently delete individual Siri audio recordings collected before October 2019, subject to the agreement’s terms and exceptions. That commitment should not be broadened into a claim that Apple deleted every Siri-related record or all data associated with Siri.

Where to verify the case

The administrator’s FAQs, important documents and contact page contain the current procedures. The filed claim form is available at this PDF. Court settlement details appear in the preliminary approval order and the motion for final approval.
