Apple’s 2020 Zero-Interest Financing Expansion: How Apple Card Monthly Installments Work Now

Apple’s 2020 expansion brought Apple Card Monthly Installments to many products beyond iPhone. Here’s how ACMI works in the U.S. now, what the 0% APR excludes, and how to check eligibility.

Apple expanded Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) beyond the iPhone on June 15, 2020, bringing 0% APR installments to many Apple hardware purchases in the United States. ACMI is still offered in the U.S. as of August 16, 2026, but eligibility and terms have changed: you need an approved Apple Card, enough available credit, an eligible purchase, and ACMI selected at checkout. The 0% APR applies to the eligible installment balance—not automatically to taxes, shipping, or other Apple Card spending.

What Apple announced in 2020

Apple Card already offered interest-free installments for iPhone purchases. On June 15, 2020, Apple broadened Apple Card Monthly Installments to many more products in its U.S. hardware lineup. Contemporary coverage described the expansion as including Macs, iPads, AirPods, HomePod, Apple TV, and other hardware; it was not a promise that every product would qualify. Thurrott’s June 15, 2020 report described Mac and iPad purchases as generally receiving 12-month terms and AirPods, HomePod, and Apple TV as generally receiving six-month terms. iPhone financing was generally reported at 12 months during that expansion-era period. Apple Watch and iPod touch were reported as exclusions then. Those are historical terms, not the current offer.

The program remains available in the United States, but Apple’s current product lineup and installment periods differ from the 2020 expansion. Apple Card is issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA; Apple provides the customer-facing purchase and account experience.

Which products qualify now, and what are the terms?

As of August 16, 2026, Apple advertises ACMI for iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, AirPods, and select accessories. Apple says iPhone uses a 24-month term; many other eligible products use 12 months, while some smaller accessories use six or 12 months depending on the product. Eligibility is product-specific and can change, so the installment offer shown for the exact item at checkout is the one to rely on. See Apple’s product-eligibility information.

The following are examples displayed on Apple’s financing page on August 16, 2026. Prices and configurations can change, and the displayed starting price is not necessarily the financed amount for a particular order.

Category Displayed starting price Advertised term Approximate displayed payment
iPhone $599 24 months $24.95 per month
Mac $699 12 months $58.25 per month
Apple Watch $249 12 months $20.75 per month

Apple Vision Pro $3,699 12 months $308.25 per month
AirPods $129 6 months $21.50 per month

Apple’s separate ACMI page showed a different Vision Pro starting price on the same date, illustrating why these figures are snapshots rather than quotes for every configuration. Check the current offer for your model on Apple’s financing page and Apple’s ACMI page, then use the checkout summary as the final figure.

Who can use ACMI?

  • You must have an Apple Card, be approved for it, and have sufficient available credit for the purchase. Apple Card is subject to credit approval and credit limit; see Apple Card Support.
  • ACMI is available for eligible purchases made through qualifying U.S. Apple channels, including Apple Stores, Apple.com, the Apple Store app, and Apple’s phone-sales channel. It is not a general-purpose loan or an offer available in every country.
  • You must explicitly select Apple Card Monthly Installments at checkout. Selecting Apple Card as a one-time payment does not make the purchase an ACMI installment.
  • Apple’s account features require a supported iPhone or iPad with a supported operating system. Confirm device and account requirements with Apple before applying or buying.

How to select ACMI and verify the purchase

  1. Add the eligible product to your cart through a qualifying U.S. Apple purchase channel.
  2. Proceed to checkout and choose Apple Card Monthly Installments as the payment option. Do not substitute a one-time Apple Card payment.
  3. Review the displayed installment term and amount, and check how taxes, shipping, AppleCare, and any other items are treated before submitting the order.
  4. Complete the purchase with Apple Card, then check the resulting installment in Wallet or at card.apple.com. Apple’s web account instructions say to select Installments in the sidebar to view installment details.

Installments appear alongside other Apple Card activity rather than as a separate conventional loan bill. The monthly installment is added to the Apple Card minimum payment. Multiple financed purchases can appear on one account, so consider their combined monthly obligation. Apple supports early payments; its installment account guide explains how to view installments and payment history.

What 0% APR covers—and what it does not

When ACMI is selected for an eligible product, the installment balance carries 0% APR. That rate does not automatically apply to the rest of the Apple Card account. Ordinary Apple Card purchases can accrue interest if not paid according to the account terms. Apple lists variable APRs of 17.49% to 27.74% for new Apple Card accounts as of July 1, 2026; an existing cardholder should check the APR assigned to their own account. Apple’s account and payment information also explains that approval and credit limits apply.

  • The wallet features strong built-in magnets that allow it to effortlessly snap into place on the back of your iPhone.
  • Taxes and shipping: These charges are generally outside the 0% installment balance and may be subject to the standard Apple Card APR.
  • Other items: Adding an ineligible product or unrelated purchase can affect whether ACMI is offered or how parts of the order are charged. Check the checkout breakdown rather than assuming the full cart is interest-free.
  • AppleCare: Apple says AppleCare purchased with an eligible product and ACMI can receive its own 0% installment. A separate AppleCare purchase may be treated differently; see Apple’s eligibility terms.
  • One-time Apple Card purchases: Paying with Apple Card without selecting ACMI can leave the purchase subject to the card’s standard variable APR. Apple explains the distinction in its guidance on avoiding or lowering Apple Card interest charges.

Apple advertises 3% Daily Cash on eligible Apple purchases made with Apple Card, paid up front. That reward was part of the 2020 expansion and remains a current Apple Card selling point. It does not make a purchase financially worthwhile by itself: compare the product’s price, any discounts you would give up, and your ability to pay the full obligation. See Apple Card’s current terms and benefits.

Extra rules for financing an iPhone

For an iPhone purchased with ACMI, Apple requires selection of AT&T, Boost Mobile, T-Mobile, or Verizon at checkout. Prepaid carrier plans are not supported for the ACMI iPhone purchase path. Apple says the iPhone is unlocked and can later be used with another carrier, subject to that carrier’s terms. An unlocked phone does not mean every carrier or payment arrangement qualifies during checkout. Review Apple’s current iPhone and Apple Card financing guidance.

Purchases Apple excludes or may not accept

Apple’s current restrictions include refurbished devices, purchases through certain employee or discount programs, Apple at Work purchases for small businesses, and some government, veterans, and military purchase programs. Mixed orders containing eligible and ineligible items may also prevent ACMI from applying as expected. The specific exclusions and terms can change, so check Apple’s current purchase and interest guidance and the checkout options for your order.

When ACMI may—or may not—fit your budget

ACMI can preserve cash without interest on the eligible installment balance, but the monthly payment is still debt for the full purchase price. It is most useful when you already qualify for Apple Card, the exact product is eligible, the checkout clearly shows ACMI, and the payment fits comfortably alongside existing obligations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Potentially useful: You planned to buy the product anyway, prefer spreading the eligible balance across fixed installments, and can cover the full combined monthly obligation. Apple trade-in may reduce the financed amount, although its value depends on the device and condition and can change after inspection. Check Apple Trade In for a current estimate.
  • Consider another route: You would open a credit account only for this purchase, are close to your credit limit, may carry interest-bearing Apple Card balances, or cannot comfortably afford the payments. Opening a card, using a large share of its limit, or missing payments may affect your finances and potentially your credit profile; ACMI is not a guarantee of harmless credit impact.
  • Compare total cost: A cash discount or another card’s rewards may be more valuable than ACMI. For iPhone, compare carrier bill credits and required service costs with the price and flexibility of Apple’s offer. Retailer promotions can have different terms; “no interest if paid in full” may be deferred interest rather than true 0% APR. Compare the full obligation, not just the monthly device figure.
  • Do not equate leasing with ownership: Apple’s financing page also advertises leasing for certain products, but lease terms, end-of-term choices, ownership, and business or tax treatment differ from ACMI. Review those terms separately before comparing them.

If ACMI does not appear at checkout

The missing option usually means some part of the purchase or account does not meet the offer’s conditions. Common possibilities include an ineligible product, an unsupported channel or region, an excluded discount program, a refurbished device, insufficient available credit, or an iPhone carrier selection that does not qualify.

  1. Remove accessories and other cart items, then check whether the eligible product alone shows ACMI.
  2. Confirm you are choosing Apple Card Monthly Installments, not Apple Card one-time payment.
  3. Check Apple Card approval and available credit, and verify you are purchasing through an eligible U.S. Apple channel.
  4. Review product-specific and program exclusions. If ACMI still does not appear, contact Apple or Apple Card support before placing the order.

If you have already bought an eligible product without selecting ACMI, do not assume the charge will be converted to 0% installments. Check the transaction and account terms; paying it off early does not retroactively turn an ordinary purchase into an ACMI installment.
