What the $299 Amazon deal included
AppleInsider reported the deal on June 22, 2024. The $299 price applied to selected styles of the 41mm Apple Watch Series 9 with GPS, an aluminum case and Sport Band, and was described at the time as $100 off. The article also reported a 45mm GPS model at $329 and a 45mm GPS + Cellular stainless-steel model with Milanese Loop at $629.
Those are historical prices, not current price quotes. The Amazon listing groups multiple sizes and configurations, and its accessible product information does not confirm a live $299 offer. Check the specific variant, seller, condition and checkout price before ordering.

What the Series 9 offers
Series 9 was introduced in 2023. Apple’s technical specifications list an S9 SiP, 64GB of storage and an always-on Retina LTPO OLED display with peak brightness up to 2,000 nits. Health and safety features include ECG, heart-rate and irregular-rhythm notifications, sleep and cycle tracking, temperature sensing, Crash Detection and Fall Detection.

The GPS model includes GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and Apple Pay. Apple rates battery life at up to 18 hours of normal use or up to 36 hours in Low Power Mode; actual results vary with configuration and use. Apple says fast charging can reach 80% in about 45 minutes under its testing conditions. The watch is rated water resistant to 50 meters and dust resistant to IP6X, but water resistance can diminish over time. Apple does not recommend scuba diving or high-velocity-water activities with this model.
Important limitations before you buy
GPS is not Cellular
The $299 configuration was GPS-only. It can use an iPhone for connected functions when the phone is nearby, and can connect to Wi-Fi where available, but it does not provide the same independence as a GPS + Cellular watch. Cellular service requires a compatible carrier plan and adds recurring cost.

Check the U.S. blood-oxygen status
Apple says certain Series 9 units sold in the U.S. from January 18, 2024 onward have blood-oxygen functionality disabled because of a patent dispute. Apple identifies affected units by part numbers ending in LW/A. This qualification is specific to affected U.S. units; it should not be generalized to every Series 9 in every country. Confirm the part number and feature status for the unit being sold.
Compatibility and construction
Apple lists an iPhone Xs or later running iOS 17 or later as the requirement for Series 9. The aluminum model uses Ion-X front glass; stainless-steel versions use sapphire crystal. Check Apple’s specifications for current software compatibility before buying, since future watchOS support is not guaranteed by the original compatibility requirement.

Who should consider a Series 9?
- It may suit an iPhone owner upgrading from an older watch who wants ECG, temperature sensing, safety features and a bright always-on display, and finds the exact new GPS model at a compelling price.
- The Apple Watch SE may be a better value for a first-time buyer focused on notifications, activity tracking, safety functions and core smartwatch features rather than Series 9’s fuller health-sensor set.
- Choose GPS + Cellular only if you need it. It can be useful when leaving the iPhone behind, but requires carrier support and a service plan; it is not the $299 configuration.
- Compare newer standard models if their sale price is close. Newer hardware may leave a longer support window, but Apple has not established a specific future update term for Series 9.
- Skip a questionable listing if it is renewed or refurbished without clear warranty terms, comes from an unfamiliar marketplace seller, or the low price applies only to an unsuitable size or band.
Apple’s Watch comparison page is a useful way to review current alternatives. The Series 9’s 2023 introduction means it should not be described as the latest-generation Apple Watch.

Checklist for an Amazon listing
- Confirm the size: the reported $299 offer was for 41mm; the 45mm model was a different configuration and price.
- Confirm connectivity: make sure the listing says GPS or GPS + Cellular according to your needs.
- Check condition: verify that the buy box says new if you expect a new watch, rather than renewed or refurbished.
- Check seller and fulfillment: review who sells and ships the item; a product page can change sellers while retaining the same listing.
- Verify band and color: confirm the selected combination, and that the included band size will fit.
