Anomali announced on January 17, 2018, that it had closed a $40 million Series D round led by Lumia Capital and appointed Drew Hamer as chief financial officer and Christopher Smith as chief revenue officer. The company said it had raised $96 million across four rounds, and planned to use the new funding to expand in the United States and internationally and continue developing its cybersecurity products. These are historical details from Anomali’s announcement, not a statement of its current financing, leadership or products.
What Anomali announced
In its January 17, 2018 announcement, Anomali described the $40 million Series D as oversubscribed. The release did not disclose the company’s valuation, so the round size should not be read as an indication of what Anomali was worth.
Anomali said the financing brought its cumulative investment to $96 million across four rounds. Both figures are company-reported amounts in that 2018 announcement.
Who invested in the Series D
Lumia Capital led the round. The other participating investors named by Anomali were:
#1 Best Overall
- Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners (DTCP)
- Telstra
- Sozo Ventures
- GV
- General Catalyst
- IVP
- Paladin Capital Group
The release identified GV, General Catalyst, IVP and Paladin Capital Group as returning investors; it did not label the other participants as returning.
Why Anomali said it raised the money
Anomali said it would use the proceeds to accelerate growth in the United States and internationally and to continue cybersecurity product development. CEO Hugh Njemanze said the new investors positioned the company for growth in Europe, Japan and Australia. That described the company’s expectation at the time; the announcement does not establish what happened afterward.

To explain the timing, the release pointed to activity it said had taken place in 2017: added capabilities for ThreatStream, Anomali Match and STAXX; a threat-sharing community involving 48 banks in the United Arab Emirates; testimony before the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee; work with the Bank of England; and cybersecurity country profiles covering Russia, China and Iran. These examples are Anomali’s account in the release, not independently verified results.
The two executive appointments
Drew Hamer, chief financial officer
Anomali said Hamer brought more than 25 years of executive financial experience and had most recently worked at ON24 and Keynote Systems. The company described him as experienced in high-growth software-as-a-service businesses.

The release presented Anomali as a provider of threat-intelligence capabilities for detecting, investigating and responding to external threats, and named ThreatStream, Anomali Match and STAXX as software offerings. Those descriptions reflect the company’s 2018 account; they do not confirm that the products remain available under those names or that the named executives still hold the announced roles.
Rank #4
Anomali’s current press room contains newer company announcements, but that alone does not establish the later status of the 2018 products, executives or financing. The funding release is therefore useful as a record of what the company announced at the time, not as a guide to its present-day operations.
