Short answer: AngelList is no longer best understood as one consumer platform for startup jobs, incorporation and investing. Its current business is principally venture-capital infrastructure and startup operations—fund administration, SPVs, capital raising, portfolio workflows and related services. The former AngelList Talent jobs marketplace now operates as Wellfound. AngelList investments are private-market offerings, not the same as buying publicly traded stocks through a conventional brokerage.
What AngelList is today
AngelList began as a network connecting startups with investors and talent. Its public product structure is now divided among venture infrastructure, startup-operations tools and recruiting. The company’s homepage groups its work around building, leading and investing, with products for venture funds, SPVs, scout funds and limited-partner workflows: AngelList.
This explains why older articles describe AngelList as a startup directory, job board and investment marketplace. Those descriptions combine businesses that are now branded separately. AngelList remains the venture and startup-infrastructure brand; Wellfound is the startup hiring marketplace.

AngelList for startup founders
AngelList markets incorporation for high-growth U.S. technology companies that expect to raise venture capital. Its incorporation page lists Delaware entity formation, state filing fees, an IRS employer identification number, founder-stock issuance, a customized equity pool, 83(b) filing support, legal templates and one free year of Delaware registered-agent service: AngelList incorporation.

- If you want to build a better future, you must believe in secrets.
- The great secret of our time is that there are still uncharted frontiers to explore and new inventions to create. In Zero to One, legendary entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel shows how we can find singular ways to create those new things.
Published incorporation price
The page currently displays a $500 one-time incorporation fee. It lists the Delaware registered-agent renewal at $100 per year after the first year. It also describes a free first year of the AngelList Starter Plan for qualifying startups—those that have raised less than $1 million, according to the page. These prices and eligibility rules are time-sensitive and should be confirmed before ordering.
$500 is not a complete legal or compliance budget. Founders may still pay state fees outside the package, legal-review fees, foreign-qualification fees, taxes, annual reports, registered-agent renewals, securities-compliance costs, payroll, insurance, accounting and specialized financing-document costs. Formation assistance is not a substitute for legal advice. Confirm that a Delaware corporation and a standard ownership structure fit your circumstances.
Operating workflows
After formation, AngelList’s startup tools can support founder equity, employee grants, cap-table administration, fundraising workflows, investor management, data-room work and, where available, banking and spend management. The practical benefit is an integrated workflow; the trade-off is that unusual ownership, cross-border founders, regulated businesses or non-venture companies may need independent counsel or a more specialized provider.
AngelList for fund managers and private-market investors
Venture funds
AngelList describes support for standard self-advised funds and platform-advised funds, including rolling funds and scout funds. Services can include formation, back-office administration, limited-partner management, capital calls, distributions, financial statements, tax and audit support, banking and portfolio records: venture-fund pricing.

Rank #2
Fund pricing is not a single posted subscription. AngelList describes a one-time implementation fee plus annual costs combining a flat administrative charge and a percentage of fund size; exact pricing requires its calculator or a quote.
SPVs
A special-purpose vehicle pools investors into a legal vehicle for one company or transaction. It is not simply a “buy” button for startup shares. AngelList lists a recommended minimum raise of $80,000, or $50,000 for follow-on investments: SPV pricing.
Its help documentation describes a standard SPV as having an $8,000 setup fee plus a $2,000 state regulatory filing fee, with total fees capped at 10% of the amount raised, excluding add-ons: SPV cost details. Carry, investor-acquisition charges, legal work and other deal-specific expenses can change the economics. Read the exact offering documents rather than treating those figures as the complete cost of every SPV.
Fees investors must separate
AngelList’s educational guide identifies three broad venture-cost categories: fund expenses, management fees and carried interest. It uses 2% annual management fees and 20% carried interest as typical examples for traditional and rolling funds, not as universal AngelList charges: management-fee guide.
Rank #3
- What capital the management fee is based on and how long it applies.
- Carry percentage, preferred return or hurdle, catch-up and distribution waterfall.
- Organization, legal, tax, audit, platform, subscription and portfolio-company expenses.
- Follow-on reserves, recycling provisions, valuation and reporting policies.
Eligibility and account minimums
Access depends on the specific offering, your location and applicable securities law. AngelList’s terms place responsibility on users for accredited-investor determinations and local-law compliance: Investing Platform Service Terms. Its Form CRS says there is no minimum account size to open or maintain an AngelList Securities account, while individual offerings can set their own minimums: Form CRS. “No account minimum” therefore does not mean every investment is available to every reader or that every deal has a low minimum.
Why AngelList is not a normal beginner investing app
Private startup investing carries risks that a public-stock brokerage does not remove:
- Illiquidity: there may be no reliable secondary market or predictable exit.
- Loss risk: a startup can fail and the investment can lose all its value.
- Dilution: later financing can reduce an investor’s ownership percentage.
- Complex economics: liquidation preferences, carry, management fees and fund waterfalls affect outcomes.
- Valuation uncertainty: private prices are infrequent and depend on models or financing rounds.
- Limited information: disclosures are not equivalent to public-company reporting.
- Tax and legal complexity: entity structures and transactions can create obligations that vary by investor and jurisdiction.
Use money you can leave invested for an uncertain period, diversify rather than rely on one deal, and review the offering memorandum, subscription agreement, limited-partnership agreement and fee schedule before committing.
What happened to AngelList jobs?
The former AngelList Talent marketplace is now Wellfound. Wellfound describes itself as a startup and technology job marketplace for candidates and an AI recruiting platform for employers: candidate overview. Wellfound says that, as of 2026, more than 27,000 startups hire on the platform, more than 10 million candidates use it and it has powered more than 100,000 hires. Those are Wellfound’s own marketing claims, not independently audited market statistics.

Candidate workflow
- Open the Wellfound jobs marketplace and create a free profile.
- Add skills, role preferences, location, remote preference, compensation expectations and equity expectations.
- Search by keyword, role, location, remote status, salary, equity, employment type and startup investment stage. Wellfound’s support page explains the search setup: search filters.
- Review the company, work arrangement, compensation, equity information and hiring activity.
- Apply with the profile or contact the company when enabled, then monitor responses and interview requests.
Wellfound says candidate profiles and applications are free, and the profile can serve as the application for one-click submissions. The jobs page currently advertises more than 130,000 remote and local startup jobs, but that live count changes by location, duplicate listings and filters; it is not a stable company metric.
Evaluate the job, not just the listing
Startup equity may vest, require an exercise payment, create tax obligations, be diluted, expire after departure or never become liquid. “Remote” can have country, payroll, time-zone and travel restrictions. Independently verify the legal employer, funding history, runway, benefits, work authorization and equity documents. A direct founder message is not proof that an employer has been validated.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Wellfound for employers
Employers can create a company profile, post a job, manage applicants in the built-in ATS or synchronize a supported ATS, and pay for additional sourcing or distribution. Wellfound says omitting salary can limit job distribution; the job-posting support page explains the process.
| Product | Published price signal | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Job posts | $0 forever | Basic posting and applicant management |
| Promoted Job Ads | From $200 per ad | Additional listing visibility |
| Reach Explore | $0 per month | 20 contact reveals monthly and three active agents |
| Reach Starter | $135 per seat per month | Self-serve AI sourcing |
| Reach Growth | $199 per seat per month | Expanded AI sourcing |
| Reach Scale | Custom | Larger recruiting programs |
| Autopilot | $500 per month per open role plus 10% placement fee | Managed recruiting |
These prices were displayed on Wellfound’s pricing page and can change: Wellfound recruiting pricing. Free job posts do not make every recruiting service free. LinkedIn, a specialist agency, a venture-fund portfolio board or a company’s own careers page may be better for executive, regulated or highly specialized hiring.

Who should use AngelList or Wellfound?
Founders
AngelList can fit a U.S. venture-oriented technology startup with conventional founder and financing structures that values speed and integrated equity workflows. Consider startup counsel or alternatives when ownership is international or unusual, the company is not seeking venture capital, the business is regulated, or an LLC or another jurisdiction may be more appropriate.
Job seekers
Wellfound suits candidates seeking startup roles, direct founder contact and salary or equity visibility. It is less suitable if you need the broadest corporate-employer coverage or a highly standardized hiring process. Check company risk, benefits and equity terms independently.
Fund managers and deal leads
AngelList may be useful when you need repeatable fund, LP, SPV, reporting and compliance workflows. Compare administrators on supported structures, KYC/AML and accreditation processes, tax reporting, carry calculations, international coverage, investor communications and total—not headline—cost.
Ordinary retail investors
If you need daily liquidity, transparent pricing, simple index exposure or money for near-term expenses, AngelList’s private-market products are generally a poor match. Platform branding does not replace due diligence on the underlying fund or company.

Alternatives by use case
- Startup jobs: Y Combinator’s Work at a Startup is more focused on YC-backed companies; LinkedIn offers broader professional coverage; company career pages provide the employer’s own requirements; venture-fund portfolio boards target a specific network.
- Incorporation and legal setup: Clerky, Stripe Atlas, Carta and startup counsel differ in jurisdiction support, filings, banking, cap-table integration and human legal review. Compare migration costs as well as the first invoice.
- Fund and SPV administration: Carta, Allocate, Sydecar, specialist administrators and law firms support different structures and compliance scopes. They are not interchangeable; compare LP onboarding, capital calls, distributions, tax reporting, carry and international support.
Bottom line for choosing the right product
Use Wellfound when your goal is finding or filling startup jobs. Use AngelList when you need venture-fund, SPV or startup-operations infrastructure. Treat every private investment as a separate high-risk transaction: verify eligibility, read the governing documents, identify every fee layer and decide whether you can tolerate illiquidity and total loss. Product names, prices, filters and package inclusions change, so check the linked official pages immediately before signing up or investing.
