Which Halloween candy ranked first?
Instacart’s 2025 Halloween candy and decor report, last updated September 29, 2025, ranks Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups first by total weight sold through Instacart in October 2024. The other named top-five candies were Peanut M&M’s, M&M’s, Kit Kat, and Snickers.
The ranking’s measure matters: it is weight sold, not the number of orders containing a candy, the number of individual pieces sold, or a survey of what people say they like. Instacart says chocolate-heavy candies dominated its top ten; Sour Patch Kids and HARIBO Goldbears were among the fruity options.
What else did Instacart’s Halloween data show?
- Halloween Day orders: On October 31, 2024, the share of Instacart orders containing candy was 100% higher than the platform’s yearly average, according to Instacart.
- States buying candy most often: Utah bought candy 50% more often than the national average in October 2024. Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho, and Nebraska completed Instacart’s top five states by this measure.
- Candy corn: Instacart reported that candy corn appeared in 2.0% to 2.7% of its candy orders in October over the period going back to 2017. The company calculated this as a share of candy orders containing candy corn—not a share of candy weight or all grocery orders.
These figures describe activity on Instacart. They should not be read as measurements of all U.S. candy purchases.

What does “most-ordered” mean here?
Although “most-ordered” is a natural way to ask which candy leads, the 2024 ranking in Instacart’s report is based on total weight sold on its platform. It does not establish which candy appeared in the most separate orders. Nor is it a national census or a poll of consumer preferences.
Instacart’s September 2024 Halloween report makes a useful distinction: it discussed platform order data for October 2023 and separately reported findings from an online survey commissioned from The Harris Poll. Those are different kinds of evidence. The October 2024 candy ranking in the 2025 report is based on Instacart purchases, not that survey.

How to interpret the result
If you are looking for the candy that led Instacart’s October 2024 Halloween sales by weight, the answer is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. If you mean the candy most Americans prefer, or the candy bought most often across every retailer, this ranking cannot answer that broader question. Its value is as a clear snapshot of one delivery platform’s purchases during one October, using a stated measure.
