Eligible U.S. Amazon Prime customers do not need to file a claim for the settlement refund. Payments are automatic by check, PayPal or Venmo, and the FTC says eligible consumers should receive a payment by April 2027. The maximum total payment is $200 per eligible person.

Who may qualify for an Amazon Prime settlement refund?

The FTC’s current refund guidance says you must meet all three conditions:

  • You were an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
  • You enrolled through a challenged Prime enrollment flow, or unsuccessfully tried to cancel through Amazon’s online cancellation flow, between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
  • You used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrolling.

The challenged enrollment flows were the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout, and Prime Video enrollment flow. Meeting these criteria does not mean every person will receive the same amount; payments follow the settlement’s rules and are capped at $200 total per eligible person.

Do you need to file a claim or submit paperwork?

No. Under the revised process, eligible consumers do not need to submit a claim, respond to a notice, or complete paperwork to receive an automatic payment. That is why the title’s suggestion that you can still file a claim is outdated: the current process is automatic.

An earlier phase was described as covering customers who used fewer than three Prime benefits, with a maximum payment of $51. That was not the full current eligibility rule. In September 2026, the FTC announced an expansion for eligible consumers who used 11 to 20 benefits, with a maximum total payment of $200 under the revised order.

How payments are being sent and when to expect them

Amazon sends automatic payments by mailed check or electronically through PayPal or Venmo. The FTC says payments should arrive by April 2027. An issued payment expires 60 days after its issue date, so follow the instructions promptly if you receive one.

The September 2026 expansion said automatic payments to millions of additional consumers who used 11 to 20 benefits would start October 1, 2026. A possible supplemental round depends on consumer-accepted payments: if they do not reach the specified threshold by February 2027, consumers who previously accepted a payment may qualify for an additional automatic payment of up to $149. That round is set to start by April 2027 and could bring an eligible person’s total to the $200 maximum.

What the $2.5 billion settlement means for consumers

The FTC’s 2025 announcement describes a $2.5 billion settlement: up to $1.5 billion for consumer redress and a $1 billion civil penalty. The overall settlement amount is not a pool divided equally among claimants. Individual payments depend on eligibility and the payment rules, and the maximum total payment is $200 per eligible person.

By September 2026, Amazon had issued more than $845 million in redress payments, according to the FTC. That figure is the amount issued by that date, not a promise of a particular payment to any individual.

How to avoid refund scams

  • The FTC says it is not contacting people about this refund.
  • Neither the FTC nor Amazon will ask you to pay a fee to receive a refund. Be wary of anyone offering special access or a guaranteed payment for money.
  • Use the FTC’s official refund page to verify payment information and find the administrator’s contact details.
