That change stopped Prime members from extending shared delivery benefits to someone living at another address; it did not end sharing with eligible household members. A Prime member can still share selected benefits through Amazon Family with one other adult who lives at the same primary residential address. Amazon’s current US help page explains the distinction.
What changed—and what did not
Amazon’s official US help page says Prime benefit sharing through the Prime Invitee program ended on October 1, 2025. Invitees who lived elsewhere lost the shared Prime delivery benefit. They can join the member’s Amazon Family only if they live in the same household, or get their own Prime membership. The Associated Press reported the cutoff on September 2, 2025, before it took effect: AP’s report.
Household sharing continues under Amazon Family, the name Amazon gave its Amazon Household program on March 7, 2025. The former Invitee arrangement and current Family sharing are not interchangeable: living at the same primary residential address is a condition for sharing Prime benefits with another adult through Family. Amazon’s explainer provides background on the name change; current eligibility details are on its live help pages.
Can I share Prime shipping with someone who lives at another address?
No—not through the ended Prime Invitee program, and not by adding that person as the other adult in your Amazon Family. Amazon’s US Family rules require both adults to share the same primary residential address. Someone who lives elsewhere needs an individual membership to receive Prime benefits; current membership pricing was not verified here, so check Amazon’s current offer for the relevant account and region.

Who can join Amazon Family?
Amazon’s current US help pages describe a Family organized around two adults at the same primary residence. The organizer can share with one other adult, up to four teens subject to date and availability rules, and up to four children. Additional adults need their own Prime membership. Amazon’s help also says free-trial members, Student and Young Adult Prime members aged 18–22, and Prime Video-only members cannot share Prime benefits. See Amazon Family help and Amazon’s share-benefits page for current account-specific terms.
Which Prime benefits can household members share?
Amazon lists fast, free delivery on eligible items, Prime events and deals, Prime Video with ads, Prime Reading, certain third-party benefits, Amazon Photos, and selected digital content among the shareable benefits. Amazon Music Prime’s ad-free shuffle listening can be shared with one other adult. Prime Video Ad Free is not shared through Family and requires an individual subscription. Eligibility and benefits may differ by country; these details describe Amazon’s US help pages.

Do both adults need to share a payment method?
For new Amazon Family setups, Amazon says the organizer shares a payment method with the invited adult as a household verification signal; the invited adult does not have to share one in return. Families created before September 18, 2026 with two-way payment sharing continue under that arrangement until a member is added or removed. At that point, they transition to one-way sharing. Account rules can change, so check the current help page before changing members or payment settings.
What should a former Invitee do now?
- If you live with the Prime member: Ask the organizer to invite you to their Amazon Family. You will keep a separate Amazon account, and the household and payment verification conditions apply.
- If you live elsewhere: Compare an individual Prime membership with other delivery options available to you. The former Invitee route no longer provides shared Prime delivery.
- If you already belong to an Amazon Family: Amazon says members can leave and rejoin their Family, but must wait 12 months before joining a different one. Check the current account terms before leaving.
In September 2025, AP reported a temporary offer for affected Invitees: $14.99 for the first year, then $14.99 monthly or $139 annually, available through December 31, 2025. That offer has expired and is not evidence of today’s Prime prices.
