The $1,829 price was real, but it was a historical Amazon deal from April 19, 2025—not a price that can be presented as live in August 2026. The offer covered a new Space Black 14.2-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s M4 Pro (12-core CPU, 16-core GPU), 24GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD. It was $170, or about 8.5%, below Apple’s then-$1,999 price. Apple now sells M5-generation MacBook Pro models, so today’s decision is between discounted M4 Pro inventory, current M5 models and certified-refurbished stock.
What the $1,829 Amazon deal actually included
AppleInsider reported the offer on April 19, 2025. The matching configuration was:
- 14.2-inch MacBook Pro with a Liquid Retina XDR display
- Apple M4 Pro with a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU
- 24GB unified memory
- 512GB SSD
- Space Black finish
- 70W USB-C power adapter
- MagSafe 3, HDMI, SDXC, headphone jack and three Thunderbolt 5 ports
The report described a new product sold through Amazon, but it does not establish that the same listing remains available now. Check the original deal report for the dated details.
Was $1,829 a good price?
| Comparison | Amount | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Apple price at the time | $1,999 | Reference price for the exact 12-core/16-core, 24GB/512GB configuration |
| Amazon deal price | $1,829 | Historical price reported April 19, 2025 |
| Saving | $170 (about 8.5%) | Meaningful, but not an unusually deep MacBook Pro discount |
Against Apple’s price, it was a solid current-generation discount. Against later street prices, it was less impressive: subsequent deal coverage reported comparable 24GB/512GB M4 Pro units at $1,799 and, in another listing, $1,699. Those figures are dated examples, not guaranteed prices. A Macworld report documents the $1,799 example, while Slickdeals reported the $1,699 listing.

Do not confuse this configuration with other M4 Pro models
Apple sold more than one 14-inch M4 Pro configuration. The $1,829 calculation applies only to the 12-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 24GB memory and 512GB SSD model. A 14-core CPU/20-core GPU version with 1TB storage has a different list price and therefore a different saving. A base M4 MacBook Pro, a 16-inch model, or a renewed listing is not the same deal.

How it compares with MacBook Pro models available now
By August 2026, Apple’s current generation is M5. Apple lists the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro from $1,699 and 14-inch M5 Pro models from $2,199: Apple’s current MacBook Pro store.
| Option | Starting or reported price | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Historical 14-inch M4 Pro (12-core/16-core, 24GB/512GB) | $1,829 historical Amazon price | More memory and Pro-class hardware than the entry M5, but an older generation |
| 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro | From $1,699 at Apple | Newer silicon, current warranty cycle and 1TB starting storage; 16GB memory in the listed entry configuration |
| 14-inch M5 Pro MacBook Pro | From $2,199 at Apple | Current-generation Pro platform for heavier sustained workloads |
Apple’s comparison tool lists up to 22 hours of battery life for the M4 Pro comparison model and up to 24 hours for the M5 model. It also shows the M4 Pro configuration starting at 24GB memory and the M5 entry model at 16GB/1TB. These are Apple’s configuration and battery claims, not a guarantee of performance in every application: Apple’s M5 versus M4 Pro comparison.

Who should still consider a discounted M4 Pro?
Developers and technical students
Twenty-four gigabytes of unified memory gives more headroom for IDEs, containers, simulators and multiple services than the entry M5’s 16GB configuration. The memory is shared by the CPU and GPU and cannot be upgraded later.
Video, music and 3D professionals
The Pro-class chip, XDR display, HDMI, SDXC slot and three Thunderbolt 5 ports suit sustained creative workflows and external-storage setups. The 512GB SSD can become restrictive with video libraries, virtual machines, sample libraries, RAW photos or local AI models.

Buyers who find a genuinely low new price
A new, correctly configured unit at or below roughly $1,800 is substantially more compelling than the historical $1,829 price. At $1,699, it matches the lowest later report and deserves serious consideration if the seller and warranty are trustworthy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the M5 MacBook Pro is the better purchase
- The price gap between a new M4 Pro and the M5 is small.
- You want the newest platform, a full current warranty cycle and stronger resale prospects.
- You prefer 1TB of included storage and do not need 24GB of memory.
- Your work is general productivity, schoolwork, browsing or light creative editing.
Choose an M5 Pro instead when you regularly compile large projects, render professional video, run demanding graphics workloads or use local AI models and the M4 Pro discount is modest. For office work, writing and ordinary coding, a MacBook Air may be sufficient if you do not need the Pro display, HDMI, SDXC slot or extra Thunderbolt bandwidth.

New, renewed and refurbished are not interchangeable
An Amazon result can combine new, open-box, used, Amazon Renewed and marketplace inventory on one product page. Condition affects battery history, accessories, packaging, return terms and warranty status. Apple’s Certified Refurbished store has listed this exact 24GB/512GB M4 Pro configuration, but availability and price change: Apple Certified Refurbished listing.
A refurbished M4 Pro can be better value than a lightly discounted new one when Apple’s return and warranty terms are clear. Conversely, a marketplace listing priced near a new M5 removes much of the reason to accept older hardware and uncertain provenance.
Amazon checkout checklist
- Confirm the listing says 12-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 24GB memory and 512GB SSD.
- Confirm the condition is new if that is what you intend to buy; do not assume a product-page title applies to every offer.
- Read the exact “Sold by” and “Ships from” fields and identify any third-party marketplace seller.
- Check the color, included adapter and return window.
- Put the item in the cart and verify the final price; coupons, colors and sellers can change the amount before checkout.
- After delivery, use the serial number on Apple’s coverage page to see whether the device was previously activated and how much warranty remains.
- If you want AppleCare+, check eligibility and the current enrollment rules immediately after purchase rather than assuming a fixed window.
Verdict
At $1,829 in April 2025, the 14-inch M4 Pro was a legitimate but moderate discount: $170 below the correct Apple reference price. In August 2026, that number is historical, not a verified live Amazon bargain. Treat a new 24GB/512GB M4 Pro at about $1,800 or less as interesting, and $1,700 or less as strong value, provided the seller, condition, return policy and Apple coverage check out. If the price is close to $1,699 for an M5 or approaches $2,000 for an M4 Pro, the newer M5 generation or an M5 Pro deserves priority.
