Amazon Clinic is no longer a standalone service. Amazon renamed and integrated it into One Medical on June 27, 2024; the former pay-per-visit offering is now called Amazon One Medical On-Demand Care. It can be a convenient, upfront-priced option for selected common conditions, but it is not a substitute for emergency care, hands-on testing or comprehensive primary care.

What happened to Amazon Clinic?

Amazon Clinic launched as a virtual-care marketplace connecting people with third-party providers. On June 27, 2024, Amazon brought the service under the One Medical brand. People looking for the old Amazon Clinic service should now start at Amazon One Medical; Amazon may describe the one-time option as On-Demand Care or Pay-per-visit. Amazon’s announcement explains the rebranding at Introducing Amazon One Medical.

Which Amazon One Medical option fits?

Option What it is Published price Insurance and billing Best suited to
On-Demand Care One-time virtual care for eligible common conditions, by direct message or video From $29 for Direct Message Care and from $49 for Video Care; actual price may vary by condition Self-pay; insurance is not accepted for the visit A straightforward, non-emergency concern when you do not need an ongoing care relationship
One Medical membership Ongoing primary-care access, including certain on-demand virtual services and access to records, care plans and appointment booking $99 per year or $9 per month for Prime members; $199 per year for non-Prime customers The membership fee is separate from scheduled in-person and video appointments, which are billed to insurance or paid out of pocket People seeking continuing care, especially those who expect to use virtual services regularly or live near a One Medical office
Additional Prime family membership Membership access for eligible additional family members, subject to Amazon’s terms $66 per year or $6 per month per additional member, up to five Membership fee; scheduled care is billed separately Prime households seeking to add family members

Prices and service details above reflect Amazon’s published information at the time of writing and can change. Check the displayed price and availability before submitting a request. Amazon’s pages are One Medical and One Medical for Prime members.

Membership fee ≠ all medical care included. Prime does not automatically include One Medical: Prime members can buy the discounted membership, while scheduled visits remain separately billed. The membership includes certain on-demand virtual-care services; it is not unlimited free access to every appointment.

How On-Demand Care works

  1. Open Amazon One Medical through Amazon’s healthcare pages, Amazon.com, the Amazon app or the One Medical app.
  2. Choose the concern or type of care you need. The available options can depend on your state.
  3. Complete the intake questions about symptoms, history, medications, allergies and other relevant details.
  4. Select an available format, such as Direct Message Care or Video Care, and review the price shown for your request.
  5. Submit the request for a provider to review. The provider may ask for more information or determine that an in-person assessment is more appropriate.
  6. Review the provider’s care summary and recommendations. If clinically appropriate, the provider may send a prescription to a pharmacy you select.

Amazon says On-Demand Care includes unlimited follow-up messaging with the provider for 14 days after you receive the care summary. That window is not a promise of ongoing management: persistent, worsening or new symptoms may need another appointment or in-person evaluation.

What conditions may be eligible?

Amazon advertises On-Demand Care for more than 30 common conditions. Examples include:

  • Minor infections and seasonal illnesses: urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, pink eye, and cold and flu.
  • Sexual and reproductive health: erectile dysfunction and birth control questions.
  • Skin, hair and related concerns: male-pattern hair loss.
  • Other concerns: menopause-related issues and type 2 diabetes.

The examples are not a guarantee that a particular patient or condition will qualify. The clinician decides whether remote care is appropriate based on the symptoms, medical history, age, pregnancy status, medications and other factors. State rules and availability can also affect what is offered; Amazon specifically says Direct Message Care availability varies by state. See Amazon’s current service information for the conditions and formats available to you.

What will you actually pay?

Amazon lists On-Demand Care starting at $29 for Direct Message Care and $49 for Video Care. These are starting prices, not guaranteed rates for every condition. Direct Message Care may not be available in every state, and the price shown for a specific request is the one to check before submitting it.

The one-time visit is self-pay: Amazon says it does not accept insurance for On-Demand Care, and insurance is not required. Amazon identifies the service as FSA/HSA eligible, but account rules differ, so confirm eligibility with your plan administrator. Medication, laboratory work, diagnostic testing and outside services can add costs; do not assume they are included in the virtual-care price.

Amazon lists One Medical membership at $99 per year (or $9 per month) for Prime members and $199 per year for non-Prime customers. It lists additional Prime family members at $66 per year (or $6 per month), up to five. Those membership charges are separate from Prime and from scheduled care. Scheduled in-person and video appointments are billed to insurance or paid out of pocket. Review Amazon’s Prime membership details and the One Medical page for current terms.

Is Amazon One Medical cheaper than urgent care?

There is no universal answer. A qualifying message visit at its advertised starting price may cost less than a cash-pay urgent-care visit, but that comparison changes if you have low-cost telehealth through insurance, need testing or an examination, or have to arrange additional care afterward.

  • Check your benefits first. An employer or insurer may offer virtual visits for $0 or a low copay. That can be less than paying Amazon’s self-pay rate.
  • Compare the total likely cost. Consider the visit, any test or procedure, medication, follow-up and possible in-person care—not just the advertised starting price.
  • Ask whether remote assessment is enough. If the problem may require a physical exam, rapid test, imaging, injection, wound care or same-day lab work, an in-person clinic may be the more useful first stop.
  • Use the membership only if it fits your pattern of care. A single isolated consultation may not justify an annual fee; recurring virtual support or access to a continuing care team may make membership more useful.

Alternatives to compare

Option Published price information May fit better when
Teladoc Health Teladoc lists $89 for uninsured 24/7 urgent care; eligible insurance or employer benefits may reduce general medical visit costs, sometimes to $0. See its FAQ. Your plan or employer already offers Teladoc at a low cost, or you want a platform connected to those benefits.
MDLive Urgent-care pricing is listed from $0 to $89 depending on coverage; plan and service eligibility vary. You have qualifying insurance coverage and want the visit handled through that benefit.
Sesame Sesame advertises telehealth visits from $37; prescriptions, if issued, are not included in the visit price. You want to compare cash-pay providers and prices in a marketplace.
Your insurer’s or employer’s telehealth service Price depends on your plan or benefit; check the member portal or benefits information. You want to use an existing low-cost benefit, keep claims within your network or coordinate with your insurer.
Local urgent care or primary-care office Prices vary by location, insurance and services required. You may need hands-on examination, testing or an ongoing relationship with a clinician.

These services are not interchangeable just because one advertises a lower visit price. Compare what is covered and what additional care may cost. Teladoc, MDLive and Sesame prices and coverage depend on eligibility and service; verify the amount that applies to you before booking.

When virtual care is not enough

On-Demand Care is intended for selected concerns that a clinician can assess remotely. A provider may decide that testing or an in-person examination is necessary, that a requested treatment is unsafe, or that a prescription is not appropriate. Virtual care is also a poor fit when symptoms are rapidly changing, difficult to describe, or require hands-on assessment.

  • Choose in-person urgent care when you may need an examination, rapid testing, imaging, an injection, wound treatment or another hands-on service.
  • Contact a primary-care clinician for continuing or complex chronic-care needs, or when you need coordinated care over time.
  • Use emergency services for a possible emergency. Severe trouble breathing, chest pain, stroke-like symptoms, major bleeding, a severe allergic reaction, loss of consciousness or another immediate danger should not wait for a virtual visit.

Before using the service, review Amazon One Medical’s privacy notice, consent screens and account settings so you understand how your healthcare information is handled. Do not assume that a telehealth visit is appropriate for every symptom.

Prescriptions, pharmacies and extra costs

If a provider decides a prescription is appropriate, Amazon says it can be sent to a pharmacy you choose. A prescription is not guaranteed; clinical judgment, state rules and pharmacy requirements apply. Medication cost is separate from the visit price, so compare your insurance coverage and other pharmacy prices. Amazon Pharmacy offers delivery and pharmacist access, but it is only one fulfillment option: Amazon Pharmacy. Amazon describes its prescription services at One Medical and Amazon same-day prescription delivery.

Who is most likely to find it useful?

Consider On-Demand Care for a one-time visit

It may suit someone with an eligible, non-emergency concern who wants a virtual assessment, sees a displayed price that compares favorably with their alternatives, and does not expect to need testing or a physical exam. It can also be a convenient option for people who already have a primary-care doctor but need a discrete consultation.

Consider membership for ongoing access

Membership may make more sense if you value continuing virtual support, records and care-team access, and expect to use the included services. A nearby One Medical office can make the broader primary-care relationship more practical. One Medical describes its broader preventive and chronic-care support at One Medical; location and appointment charges still matter.

Check insurance telehealth before paying cash

If your health plan or employer already provides a virtual-care service at a low copay or no cost, compare that option first. It may offer better claims coordination or fit your existing network.

Healthcare prices and availability can change, and a lower advertised visit fee does not guarantee a lower total bill. Check current terms and your benefits before choosing.
