Dubai-based video-learning company Almentor closed a $6.5 million Series B on May 31, 2021, led by Partech. Sawari Ventures, Egypt Ventures and Sango Capital also participated. TechCrunch reported that the financing brought Almentor’s disclosed cumulative funding to $14.5 million at that date.

The round backed an Arabic-first education platform serving consumers, employers and government programs. It was an investment in localized content and distribution—not evidence, by itself, of profitability, active-user growth or a particular valuation.

TechCrunch’s contemporary account and Partech’s announcement establish the financing. Neither source disclosed a valuation, revenue, profitability figure or detailed ownership breakdown.

What Almentor offered

Founded in 2016 by Ihab Fikry and Ibrahim Kamel, Almentor was described in 2021 as a Dubai-based platform with operations or offices in Dubai, Cairo and Saudi Arabia. Its product combined Arabic-language and English video courses covering business, entrepreneurship, technology, health, humanities, lifestyle, sports, corporate communication, drama and digital media.

The company’s proposition was narrower and more specific than “online courses” in general: professionally produced, structured, on-demand learning adapted to Arabic-speaking audiences across MENA and the wider Arab world. That localization can include language, examples, instructors and cultural context. It does not mean Arabic learning content was universally unavailable.

Partech framed the opportunity around serving roughly 430 million Arabic speakers in its 2021 investment commentary. That is an investor’s period estimate, not a current official demographic count. A founder statement that many people cannot learn effectively in another language should likewise be understood as company positioning rather than an independently measured outcome.

How the business was supposed to make money

Consumer courses and subscriptions

In 2021, individual users generally paid approximately $20–$30 for a course and reportedly received lifetime access to that purchase. Almentor said it planned to introduce a subscription in June 2021 with unlimited access to its video library. Those prices and plans describe the period of the financing and should not be treated as current pricing.

Corporate learning

Almentor sold companies access to its library and produced customized or white-label employee-training content. It reported 78 corporate deals completed since 2016. That was a company-reported historical count, not a current customer total, and it does not show contract value, renewal or usage.

Government and special projects

The third line served government bodies and other institutions through targeted programs. One cited example was work with the Egyptian government to upskill the country’s film industry. Almentor said it had completed 11 additional similar projects by the time of the 2021 report. The figure does not identify the projects’ value or outcomes.

Traction at the time of the Series B

Almentor said in 2021 that it had:

  • More than 1 million registered users;
  • Approximately 12,000 videos;
  • More than 2 million learning experiences;
  • 78 corporate deals since 2016; and
  • 11 additional government or special projects.

These measures are not interchangeable. A registered user is not necessarily active or paying; a learning experience is not necessarily a completed course or unique learner; and a corporate deal does not reveal revenue or retention. The report did not provide paying-user numbers, subscription conversion, engagement, revenue, margins or profitability.

Why Partech’s investment mattered

For the regional technology market, the round was a significant institutional endorsement of Arabic-language edtech. Partech described Almentor as a leading Arabic self-learning content provider and said it wanted to help expand access to on-demand personal and professional development.

Strategically, Almentor sat at the intersection of education, media and software. It was not only a learning-management system: the company had to commission or produce content, package it for consumers and employers, and distribute it across a multilingual market. That made content quality and localization central to the investment thesis.

The competitive distinction was regional relevance. Global platforms can offer broader university courses, technical catalogs and widely recognized credentials, while Almentor’s stated advantage was Arabic-first presentation and locally relevant instructors. That is a positioning trade-off, not proof that one catalog is universally better.

What the $6.5 million was intended to fund

Almentor said the capital would be used to improve content production and quality, expand access to learning in the Arab region, and educate potential users about continuous learning. Those priorities also supported its consumer, corporate and government offerings.

No disclosed allocation established a particular number of hires, studios, countries, courses or acquisitions. It is therefore not accurate to say the entire round went to production or to infer a specific post-round expansion from the financing alone.

What is known about Almentor today

As of August 18, 2026, Almentor’s public product pages present a subscription-based consumer service with more than 1,000 Arabic video courses, unlimited access, ad-free learning, multi-device use and offline downloads. The plans page does not expose a stable, universally applicable price in the reviewed material; country, currency, promotion and account status may affect what a user sees. The help center explains the subscription mechanics.

Its current business offering advertises employee learning, progress tracking, analytics, customized programs and cross-device or offline access. Almentor’s English homepage claims more than 250 organizations, which is a current company marketing claim. The business page directs organizations toward a tailored offer, while the demo page uses a sales process rather than publishing enterprise pricing.

The current website does not, in the pages reviewed, establish a definitive lifetime funding total or a clearly dated corporate history after the Series B. Current product figures should therefore update the reader on today’s offering, not rewrite the historical 2021 financing story.

How the platform compares with alternatives

When Almentor may fit an individual learner

  • You want Arabic-language instruction and regional examples.
  • You prefer short, practical video learning across professional and personal-development subjects.
  • Offline access and use across devices matter.
  • You do not require university credit or a globally standardized professional credential.

A learner seeking highly specialized academic, laboratory or credential-led training may find a global course provider more suitable.

When it may fit an employer

  • The workforce needs Arabic-first soft-skills, business or professional-development content.
  • The buyer needs customized material as well as a library.
  • Managers require progress reporting and analytics.
  • Regional cultural relevance matters more than a single global catalog.

Before purchasing, an organization should ask about seats, support coverage, content customization, integrations such as single sign-on or LMS connectivity, completion evidence and measurable outcomes. Public enterprise pricing was not available on the reviewed page, so buyers need a tailored proposal.

Where a global platform can be stronger

Coursera’s current business comparison page describes Teams for organizations with up to 499 users and Enterprise for larger organizations, with analytics, learning paths, mobile access, integrations and professional certificates. Its content and credential ecosystem may better suit multinational teams or formal certification needs, while Almentor’s stated edge is Arabic localization. See Coursera for Business plans for the current structure.

What investors and readers still cannot conclude

  • The round’s valuation or dilution;
  • Almentor’s revenue, margins or profitability;
  • The number of active, paying or subscribing users;
  • Subscription conversion, retention or course-completion rates;
  • A detailed use-of-funds schedule;
  • Independently verified market share; or
  • Current lifetime funding beyond the $14.5 million reported after the 2021 round.

The financing demonstrates investor conviction in localized digital learning. It does not, on its own, prove product-market fit, educational impact or financial performance.
