AI Stocks in India for 2026: Companies to Research and What the Evidence Shows

The available evidence does not support a comparable ranking of 20 Indian AI stocks. See what six listed-company reporting leads establish and how to assess AI exposure, financial quality and valuation.

There is not enough comparable evidence here to rank 20 Indian stocks as the “top” AI investments. The available company reports support AI-related activity at HCLTech, Infosys, Wipro and Persistent Systems; exchange and investor-reporting records identify KPIT Technologies and Tata Elxsi as companies whose filings investors can examine, but do not by themselves establish their AI exposure. This guide separates those evidence levels and explains what to check before treating any company as an AI stock.

Why this is not a ranked top-20 list

“AI stock” is not a standardized category. A company may sell AI products, use AI in client services, participate in AI-related engineering, or simply describe AI as a strategic priority. Those are different kinds of exposure, and a mention of AI does not establish how much revenue it generates.

The available evidence does not establish a consistent universe of 20 qualifying companies, comparable AI-attributable revenue, or a shared valuation date. Naming 20 stocks as the best or ranking them would imply a screening method and investment comparison that the evidence does not support. The companies below are therefore research leads at different evidence levels, not recommendations or a performance ranking.

What the available company evidence says

Company What is established What it does not establish
HCLTech In its FY2025-26 report, HCLTech describes a five-part AI strategy: adapting existing services, differentiated intellectual property, new AI-led services, partnerships and talent. It reports annualized Advanced AI revenue of $620 million for FY2025-26. The $620 million is HCLTech’s own category and figure, not a standardized industry measure or a direct comparison with another company’s AI revenue.
Infosys Its FY2025-26 integrated report says AI-led programs were deployed across 90% of its top 200 clients. It reports total FY2026 revenue of ₹1,78,650 crore, up 9.6% year on year. The 90% figure describes deployment across top clients, not AI’s share of revenue. The reported total revenue and growth are company-wide, not AI-specific.
Wipro Its FY2025-26 report presents AI-led work as part of its enterprise strategy and describes a shift from experimentation toward an enterprise agenda. This strategic framing is not a measured estimate of Wipro’s AI-derived revenue or market size.
Persistent Systems Its FY2025-26 annual report positions the company across AI, data and modernization, including software engineering, product development, data and analytics, and cloud. It also describes obstacles to moving pilots into production, including fragmented or poorly governed data. The positioning does not quantify AI-attributable revenue or prove that client pilots will become scaled, profitable deployments.
KPIT Technologies An NSE FY2025-26 integrated filing identifies KPIT Technologies Limited, symbol KPITTECH, and BSE scrip code 542651. The filing information establishes an exchange-listed company and a route to its disclosures; the material available here does not establish its AI revenue or merit a ranking.
Tata Elxsi The company’s investor page provides its FY2025-26 integrated annual report and investor materials. The availability of those materials is not, on its own, evidence of AI revenue or comparative investment merit.

These are company reports and investor or exchange records, not a standardized independent audit of AI exposure. NSE notes that annual reports it makes available are based on submissions by the companies.

How to interpret the strongest reported figures

HCLTech’s Advanced AI revenue

HCLTech CEO and managing director C Vijayakumar says the company became the first large-cap, India-headquartered technology services company to report “Advanced AI revenue.” HCLTech defines that category to include AI Factory, Physical AI, Robotics, AI Engineering and Custom Silicon, while distinguishing it from classical AI and ordinary AI usage in traditional services. Its reported $620 million is annualized Advanced AI revenue for FY2025-26 under that company-specific definition. It should not be read as a directly comparable figure for other companies unless their categories and measurement periods match.

Infosys’s client-program reach

Infosys’s reported 90% applies to its top 200 clients and whether AI-led programs were deployed across them. It indicates reported client reach, not the value of those programs, their profitability, or the portion of company revenue attributable to AI. Read it alongside the separate company-wide revenue figure without treating the two measures as interchangeable.

How to assess an Indian company’s AI exposure

Before adding a company to an AI-stock shortlist, identify what its AI activity actually consists of and how strong the evidence is. Company language is a starting point; the investment case requires financial and operational evidence as well.

  1. Classify the exposure. Decide whether the company sells an AI product or platform, provides AI-enabled services, performs engineering or application work, or benefits indirectly through enabling infrastructure. State whether that exposure is core to the business or one activity among many.
  2. Find the reported economics. Look for separately disclosed AI revenue and margins, or clearly described contracts, deployments and repeat business. If a company reports only a strategy or broad adoption claim, label it accordingly rather than implying measurable AI sales.
  3. Check whether adoption reaches production. Distinguish pilots and announcements from live deployments at scale. Persistent Systems’ FY2025-26 report notes that pilots can stall and that fragmented data, governance gaps and operational complexity can impede implementation.
  4. Assess the whole business on a consistent period. Review revenue growth, operating profitability, cash generation, balance-sheet position, customer or sector concentration, and execution history. Use comparable fiscal periods where possible; an AI narrative cannot replace this assessment.
  5. Evaluate price using a fixed market date. A stock’s AI exposure does not determine whether its shares are attractively valued. A fair comparison needs same-date share prices, market capitalizations and valuation measures, with the calculation method stated.
  6. Consider both sides of AI adoption. AI may create demand for a provider’s services while also changing client spending, delivery productivity, labor needs, pricing and competitive pressure. Examine disclosures for potential disruption as well as opportunity.

What a credible top-20 screen would require

A defensible “top 20” article would first publish its eligibility rules, market-data date and ranking method. It would then test each candidate against a meaningful-evidence threshold rather than fill the list with companies that merely mention AI.

  • Define eligible listings and what counts as direct, indirect or immaterial AI exposure.
  • Use primary company filings to verify the activity and label company-defined metrics.
  • Compare financial results over the same period and use market prices and valuation data from one stated date.
  • Explain how the ranking weighs evidence of AI economics against overall financial quality, valuation and execution risk.

Without those steps, a list of 20 names can look more precise than the underlying evidence. Investors can use the reports identified above as starting points, but should verify current filings and market data before making a decision.
