It presents an online manufacturing workflow covering bare PCBs, advanced constructions, assembly, components, mechanical parts, and higher-level product builds. That breadth can simplify a prototype or small production run, but headline prices and lead times are starting-point marketing figures—not the delivered cost or schedule for every design.

PCBWay presents itself as a China-based, online-first electronics manufacturing service. Customers upload design data, configure a job or request engineering review, pay online, track production, and receive fabricated boards or assembled products. Its official service menu includes PCB fabrication, PCB assembly, flex and rigid-flex boards, stencils, design assistance, CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, injection molding, cable assemblies, box builds, testing, and related OEM services.
The public service pages establish the platform’s offerings, but they do not independently establish a complete corporate history, ownership structure, revenue, workforce total, or legal-entity breakdown. What “advanced PCB” means
“Advanced PCB” is a category, not one product. It generally means a board whose materials, stackup, geometry, interconnects, copper, or process controls are more demanding than a conventional two- or four-layer FR-4 prototype.
Typical advanced constructions
- HDI: high-density interconnect boards using blind or buried vias and microvias, including staggered or stacked structures.
- Special materials: high-Tg laminates for heat resistance, high-frequency or RF materials, halogen-free materials, and Rogers-type constructions.
- Flexible formats: flex and rigid-flex boards for moving, folded or space-constrained assemblies.
- Power and thermal designs: thick copper, aluminum or other metal-core boards.
- Controlled electrical performance: fine trace/space, controlled impedance, back drilling, via plugging and specialized surface finishes.
- Large multilayers: high-layer-count stackups requiring tighter registration, aspect-ratio and yield control.
These features interact. A design combining high layer count, fine lines, thick copper, unusual laminate and tight impedance tolerances may require a different process than any single feature suggests. PCBWay’s published capability pages are useful screening signals; they are not a guarantee that every combination will be accepted without engineering approval.

Because that table is organized around earlier roadmap years, do not read every number as a newly verified 2026 production specification. How the ordering workflow works
- Create or access a PCBWay account and select PCB fabrication, assembly or another service.
- Upload the relevant design files and enter dimensions, quantity, layers, thickness, material, finish and other requirements.
- Review the online calculation or wait for engineering review. A quote can change when files, tolerances or sourcing details are examined.
- Confirm the order and pay after resolving questions or corrections.
- Track fabrication and production status through the account portal.
- Receive the shipment and inspect boards, components, workmanship and documentation before production use.
For bare boards, the normal package includes Gerber files and drill data, with fabrication notes for unusual requirements. A production-ready assembly package generally also needs the following:
- Bill of materials with approved manufacturer part numbers and quantities.
- Pick-and-place or centroid data, including the coordinate origin and rotation convention.
- Assembly drawings showing polarity, orientation and reference designators.
- PCB files if board fabrication is included.
- Substitution rules, approved alternates and a policy for unavailable parts.
- Testing, programming, panelization and depanelization instructions.
- X-ray requirements for hidden joints such as BGAs.
PCB assembly in detail
PCBWay describes three procurement models: turnkey, in which it sources the parts; kitted, in which the customer supplies them; and hybrid, combining customer-supplied and sourced components. Turnkey is convenient, but it is exposed to obsolescence, allocation, lead times, minimum buys and substitution decisions. Specify manufacturer and part numbers and require approval before any substitute is used.
The assembly quotation interface states that its displayed assembly service price excludes PCB fabrication and components and that the final amount is subject to review. Depending on the job, shipping, logistics, programming, inspection, rework and testing can also affect the invoice. These are dynamic examples, not guaranteed quotes. Actual cost can change with board construction, quantity, components, sourcing, inspection, shipping method, taxes, customs, brokerage, logistics fees and engineering adjustments. The assembly price in particular does not include board fabrication or components.
“24-hour production” means an advertised qualifying fabrication time, not next-day delivery. File corrections, payment clearance, engineering review, component procurement, assembly, testing, international transport and customs can all extend the elapsed time. Production lead time and transit time should be budgeted separately.
Quality, certifications and compliance
PCBWay’s published materials reference UL, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, RoHS and TS16949/IATF-related automotive quality language. Those references should be treated as PCBWay-published claims unless the relevant certificate is independently checked. A certification normally applies to a named facility, management system, process or product scope; it does not automatically mean every order carries every certification.

- Which facility will build the job, and what is the current certificate scope?
- Will you receive a certificate of conformity, material certificate, test report or only a product made under a certified system?
- Can the supplier support required traceability, PPAP, medical quality, ITAR/EAR controls or domestic-origin rules?
- How are customer files retained and protected?
Do not assume that a prototype made successfully is automatically suitable for medical, defense, automotive or safety-critical production.

Practical risks
Landed cost
International freight, customs duties, taxes, brokerage, logistics fees, component premiums and rework can outweigh a low bare-board price. Compare the delivered project cost, not only the fabrication line.
File and communication errors
Incorrect BOM part numbers, polarity, pick-and-place origins, stackups, drill files, drawings or programming instructions can delay production or produce a nonfunctional assembly. Assign one person to approve the released manufacturing package.
Component supply
Obsolete, allocated or unavailable parts can force substitutions or delay an otherwise fast board. Lock approved manufacturer parts and substitution rules before payment.

Scale and continuity
A working prototype does not prove stable material stackups, repeatable assembly yield, long-term component availability or a controlled second build. Request a controlled manufacturing specification and repeat-order process before scaling.
Who should use PCBWay?
Hobbyists and makers
PCBWay is plausible when low quantities, online ordering and broad prototyping options matter more than local support. Allow time for shipping and inspection rather than planning around the fastest advertised fabrication figure.
Hardware startups
The combined PCB, PCBA and mechanical menu can reduce supplier coordination during prototypes and small batches. Startups should still document substitutions, test coverage, intellectual-property protections and repeat-order requirements.
Professional engineering teams
Advanced materials and process options may fit demanding electrical or mechanical designs, provided the supplier confirms the stackup, impedance, tolerances, inspection and yield assumptions in writing.

PCBWay is compelling when you need inexpensive prototypes, small-batch PCBAs or a single online workflow spanning boards, assembly and supporting manufacturing. Its advanced menu can accommodate demanding designs, but published capability numbers require project-specific confirmation. For a sound buying decision, compare landed cost and total schedule, release complete manufacturing files, control component substitutions, and verify facility, certification and compliance scope. A local, specialist or highly audited supplier is usually the safer choice when regulatory obligations, domestic production or intensive engineering collaboration outweigh the convenience of an offshore online platform.
