Semrush is now an Adobe company. The deal gives Adobe search, competitive-intelligence and AI-visibility capabilities that complement its content, analytics, commerce and customer-experience software.
For customers, the immediate story is not a guaranteed change to Semrush subscriptions. It is Adobe’s attempt to connect the moment people discover a brand—through Google or an AI assistant—to the content, commerce and analytics systems that handle the eventual visit and purchase.
What happened to Semrush?
| Milestone | Verified detail |
|---|---|
| Announcement | November 19, 2025 |
| Consideration | Approximately $1.9 billion in cash, or $12 per Semrush share |
| Closing | April 28, 2026 |
| Current status | Semrush operates as an Adobe company |
Adobe’s original announcement described regulatory and stockholder conditions and said founders and other investors representing more than 75% of Semrush voting power had committed to support the transaction. Adobe later confirmed completion in its April 28 closing announcement. That means articles that still describe the purchase as pending are out of date.
The announced price was an all-cash offer, not an exchange of Adobe shares. The approximately $1.9 billion figure is the transaction value stated by Adobe; it should not be treated as a later independently verified purchase-price calculation.

Why Adobe bought Semrush
Moving beyond the search-results page
People increasingly research products through conversational AI and answer engines as well as conventional search. Adobe wants customers to measure whether their brands appear in those environments, not just whether a web page ranks for a keyword.
Filling a discoverability gap
Adobe already sells tools for creating content, managing digital experiences, analyzing behavior, running commerce and executing marketing campaigns. Semrush adds intelligence about what happens before a visitor reaches an owned website: search demand, competitors, backlinks, keywords and brand visibility.
Creating a connected workflow
Adobe’s stated strategy is to connect visibility data with content changes, customer engagement, conversions and revenue measurement. That is a strategic objective, not proof that the acquisition has already produced financial synergies or improved customer results.
Expanding enterprise reach
Semrush gives Adobe an entry point into marketing teams that may use its search and competitive tools without buying the broader Adobe Experience Cloud. Conversely, Adobe customers may gain a more direct route to search and AI-discovery intelligence.
Rank #2
Adobe explains the rationale in its November 19, 2025 acquisition announcement. The company cannot control Google rankings or the answers produced by ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity or other systems; it can only measure visibility and recommend actions.
What Semrush adds to Adobe
Semrush brings a broad digital-marketing toolkit rather than only a rank tracker:
- SEO intelligence, keyword research and backlink data.
- Competitive and market research.
- Content-marketing workflows.
- Paid-media and advertising insights.
- Social-strategy capabilities.
- Measurement of brand presence in generative and other AI-driven search experiences.
Adobe’s post-close description frames these capabilities as SEO, generative-engine optimization (GEO) and agentic-search optimization. Search Engine Land reported approximately 118,000 paying Semrush customers as of March 31 and $376.8 million in 2024 revenue; those are historical figures reported around the announcement, not current post-acquisition totals. See its announcement coverage for that context.
Adobe Brand Visibility: the first major combined product
On June 17, 2026, Adobe introduced Adobe Brand Visibility, the clearest product integration announced after closing. Adobe says it combines Semrush data with Adobe’s AI-content optimization and owned-channel tools to provide:
Recommended Free Tools
- Visibility insights across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity AI.
- Prompt and topic analysis.
- Competitive brand comparisons.
- Recommendations for improving content and discoverability.
- Connections to Adobe Experience Manager and related analytics and experience products.
Adobe says Brand Visibility can be used as a standalone application or integrated with Adobe Experience Manager. It also attributes a corpus of nearly 300 million real-world AI search prompts, 28.5 billion keywords and 43 trillion backlinks to Semrush’s data. Those figures are Adobe-provided claims, not an independent audit. Details are in Adobe’s product announcement.
A mention or citation in an AI answer is not the same as a click, lead or sale. AI models, retrieval systems and interface designs can change without notice, so AI-visibility measurements are less standardized than many traditional search metrics.
What existing Semrush customers should expect
Adobe says it plans continued investment in Semrush and integration with Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe LLM Optimizer, Adobe Commerce and Adobe Experience Platform. It has not established permanent terms for every customer plan.
Questions to check before renewing
- Does your current Semrush brand, login and contract remain unchanged?
- Are plan names, seats, project limits, exports or API quotas changing?
- Will Adobe integrations require a separate Adobe contract or product tier?
- Will support contacts, service-level commitments or data-processing terms change?
- Will enterprise packaging or pricing make previously standalone features sales-led?
- Are regional, language and AI-platform coverage sufficient for your markets?
Do not assume that Semrush pricing, interfaces, APIs, data limits or third-party integrations will remain unchanged. The closing announcement does not promise those terms. Customers should rely on their contract and current product documentation rather than on the acquisition price.

Who is most likely to benefit?
Adobe Experience Cloud enterprises
Large organizations already using Adobe Experience Manager, Analytics, Commerce or Experience Platform have the clearest integration case. They can potentially connect external visibility signals with content operations and conversion reporting in one vendor environment.
Enterprise SEO and content teams
Teams measuring many brands, markets and topics may value shared governance and reporting across search and AI surfaces. They should still validate data definitions, regional coverage and workflow permissions before replacing specialist tools.
Agencies
Agencies may continue to value Semrush’s competitive research, client reporting and multi-channel modules independently of Adobe. Integration is useful only if it improves delivery without making accounts, permissions and exports harder to manage.
E-commerce brands
Retailers can potentially link product content and commerce analytics to the demand and visibility signals Semrush tracks. That does not guarantee higher rankings, AI recommendations or sales.

Small businesses and independent publishers
A business that does not use Adobe’s enterprise stack may gain little from the acquisition itself. A standalone SEO platform with transparent self-service pricing may be simpler and less expensive than adopting an integrated Adobe environment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Risks and unresolved questions
- Integration risk: Combining identities, permissions, datasets, APIs and reporting can create migration work or disruption.
- Pricing and complexity: A broader platform may be powerful but harder to learn and potentially less affordable for smaller teams.
- Vendor concentration: Customers could become dependent on one supplier for content, analytics, optimization and experience management.
- Measurement risk: AI-visibility metrics and definitions are still developing, and a citation does not prove business impact.
- Platform volatility: AI providers can change models, citations, layouts and access rules without advance notice.
- Privacy and governance: Regulated companies should review how prompts, customer information and recommendations are processed.
- Execution risk: Adobe has identified uncertainty around integration costs, retention, technology effectiveness and expected synergies.
Neither Semrush nor Adobe guarantees rankings, citations, mentions, traffic or revenue. Visibility software can inform optimization; search engines and AI systems retain control of their outputs.
Alternatives for buyers who do not need Adobe’s stack
| Option | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Semrush | Standalone SEO, competitive, content, paid-media and visibility work | Module breadth and pricing complexity may not suit simple needs |
| Ahrefs | Backlink analysis, keyword research, audits and competitor research | Less Adobe-native content, commerce and customer-experience integration |
| Moz Pro | Focused rank tracking, keyword, audit and link workflows | Less emphasis on broad AI-surface orchestration |
| Conductor | Enterprise SEO governance and content intelligence | Usually sales-led and not aimed at small self-service buyers |
| Adobe Brand Visibility | Organizations already invested in Adobe Experience Cloud | Public pricing was not stated in Adobe’s announcement; likely enterprise-oriented |
Choose Adobe Brand Visibility when Adobe-native integration is more valuable than tool independence. Choose Semrush when you want a broad standalone marketing platform. Ahrefs or Moz Pro fit more specialized SEO research, while Conductor is an alternative for enterprise governance without adopting Adobe’s entire experience stack.
What the acquisition means for SEO and marketing work
The strategic shift is from measuring only page rankings to measuring whether a brand is discovered, mentioned, cited and recommended across multiple systems—and then tying those signals to owned content and business outcomes. That may make SEO more closely connected to content production, analytics, commerce and customer-experience teams.
It may also pressure independent vendors to differentiate through data quality, usability, pricing, specialist workflows and agency support. The acquisition does not eliminate the need for technical SEO, useful content, trustworthy information or direct measurement of traffic and revenue.
Bottom line
Adobe did not simply buy a keyword database. By completing the approximately $1.9 billion Semrush acquisition, it bought a position in the measurement and optimization layer between brand content and AI-mediated discovery. The opportunity is a more connected marketing workflow; the risks are integration costs, higher complexity, vendor dependence and immature AI-visibility measurement. The deal’s long-term value will depend on product quality, pricing, data reliability and whether customers can turn visibility signals into measurable business results.
