Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Short answer: A Ring doorbell may be available for under $55, but the evidence checked for August 18, 2026 does not verify a universal $55 price for one specific model. Ring’s U.S. store lists its Wired Doorbell for $49.99, while the newer Battery Doorbell is $69.99. Best Buy search listings also show some Ring models at $49.99, but the exact model, stock and price depend on the listing and location. Check the product page and cart before buying.
What the current prices actually show
Ring’s U.S. product catalog lists the current Wired Doorbell at $49.99, reduced from $79.99, and the current Battery Doorbell at $69.99, reduced from $99.99. Those are different products: the lower-priced model needs compatible doorbell wiring; the battery model does not.
Best Buy’s Ring sale listings include examples at $49.99, including a Battery Doorbell and a wired doorbell with Chime. The retailer’s broader Ring search results also mix older, refurbished and wired variants. These search pages do not establish that one particular $55 offer is available to every shopper.
Prices and stock can change, and retailer pages may vary by ZIP code, shipping or pickup availability, seller, product condition and promotion. The cited pages do not establish an exact $55 item, its expiration, or whether the price requires a membership or coupon. Before ordering, confirm the model name, new/refurbished condition, seller, included accessories, shipping and final cart price. Treat sales tax as additional where applicable.

Ring’s catalog includes several similarly named products, including Battery Doorbell Plus and Pro, and Wired Doorbell Plus and Pro. A headline price without a model name can therefore describe a different generation, power type or configuration than you expect.
Choose battery for flexible placement
The current Battery Doorbell is Ring’s entry battery model. Ring lists Retinal 2K video, motion detection, night vision and a built-in battery; its product information also describes Live View, two-way talk and app notifications. Battery power avoids relying on existing doorbell wiring, but you will need to recharge the unit. How often depends on activity, temperature, Wi-Fi conditions and settings. A battery-powered doorbell does not automatically mean a separate indoor chime is in the box.

Choose wired only if the wiring is suitable
The Wired Doorbell is currently the cheaper Ring U.S. listing, but its price is not a like-for-like comparison with the battery model. It needs compatible doorbell wiring and transformer conditions. If you are renting, lack wiring or are unsure whether your setup is compatible, confirm the installation requirements before buying rather than choosing it on price alone.
What you get—and what may cost extra
A low doorbell price is not necessarily the full cost of a working setup for your needs. The doorbell provides the device and its model-specific features; do not assume it includes every accessory or installation service. Ring’s referenced product pages list a Chime 3rd Gen at $34.99, Chime Plus at $59.99 and a compatible no-drill mount at $19.99. Those accessory prices are separate listing signals and should be checked again before purchase. A spare Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack is listed at $49.99, but it is for compatible removable-battery models—not a universal accessory for every Ring doorbell. Solar accessories are listed at $49.99–$59.99 and are likewise model- and placement-dependent. See Ring’s product and accessory page for compatibility.

- Indoor alerts: The Ring app can alert your phone, but a traditional audible indoor alert may require a compatible Chime or existing setup. Confirm what the particular package includes.
- Mounting: A no-drill mount can help avoid holes, but check that it fits the exact model and installation surface.
- Installation: Ring advertises professional installation starting at $129.99 per device; wiring changes, extensions or other complications may cost extra. Battery units are designed for DIY installation, while wired work depends on the existing setup and your comfort with electrical work.
- Checkout: Shipping, tax, local stock or seller-specific terms can change the total. A sale price alone does not establish the amount due.
Do you need a Ring subscription?
No subscription is needed for basic real-time use, but recording is a different matter. Ring’s product information says users can receive real-time motion and doorbell notifications, use Live View and communicate with visitors without a plan. Without an eligible plan, you generally cannot review missed event recordings or save and share videos and photos; some person and package alerts also depend on the device and plan. If you want to check what happened after an alert, rather than only answer live, include the ongoing plan cost in your decision. Ring advertises up to 180 days of video history with eligible plans; available features depend on the plan and device.
Ring says a doorbell purchase generally includes a free 30-day Ring Protect trial unless the location already has a subscription. Review the renewal terms and cancel before billing if you do not want to continue. Details are on Ring’s certified-refurbished Battery Doorbell FAQ and its doorbell product information.

Is it a good buy at around $55?
It can be a good entry price if the specific model suits your power setup and you are comfortable with the limits of live-only use without a plan. A wired Ring listing below $55 is attractive only if you have compatible wiring; a battery model near that price is more flexible, but verify its generation, condition and included accessories. The checked Ring U.S. catalog’s current Battery Doorbell price is $69.99, so do not assume a $55 listing is that exact current model.
- Consider it if you want visitor alerts and two-way talk, have reliable Wi-Fi at the door, and are comfortable with app-based, cloud-connected service.
- Pause before buying if you need saved recordings without a recurring subscription, local storage, a chime in the box, or advanced alerts at no additional cost.
- Check the setup first if you are a renter, have unusual mounting needs, have weak Wi-Fi near the entrance, or are considering a wired model without confirming compatibility.
For alternatives within Ring, compare the Battery Doorbell lineup and its model-specific features. A Battery Doorbell Plus or Pro may suit someone seeking upgraded features or a removable battery, but costs more than a bargain listing. For shoppers prioritizing local recording without a cloud plan, compare non-Ring products separately and verify their storage and subscription terms before deciding.
