A web terminal lets you access a broker’s trading interface through a browser, often without installing a separate desktop application. It can bring market data, charts, and order entry together and make it easier to switch between supported devices. Those conveniences depend on the specific broker and platform: web versions can lack desktop tools, and browser access does not eliminate trading, execution, or security risks.
What a web terminal can make easier
Access without a full software installation
Some web terminals run in a browser without additional trading software. MetaTrader describes its web platform as available on major desktop operating systems and mobile devices, with an internet connection required. That is a statement about MetaTrader’s product, not a guarantee that every broker terminal works on every device or browser. Analysis and order entry in one interface
A web terminal may combine price charts and market information with tools to place or manage trades. MetaTrader 5 lists market and pending orders, market depth, one-click trading, technical indicators, graphical objects, and multiple chart types and timeframes among its web features. What a web terminal may not provide
Desktop and browser features can differ
Do not assume that a browser version is a complete substitute for desktop software. In its WebTerminal comparison, updated September 16, 2026, Exness identifies expert advisors and scripts, trailing stops, and signals as desktop features rather than WebTerminal features. Access depends on connectivity and the provider
A browser-based interface still relies on an internet connection and the provider’s systems. A device change can reduce installation friction, but it does not guarantee continuous access or successful order execution. Before depending on a terminal for time-sensitive decisions, understand what access and order-management options the provider offers if your connection or its service is unavailable.
How to compare web terminals
Compare the actual functions and trading conditions available to your account, rather than relying on a general claim that a platform is fast, secure, or feature-rich.

Convenience does not remove trading risks
Risk orders cannot guarantee a particular outcome
Stop-loss and other risk orders can be useful tools, but they do not guarantee that a trade will close at the intended price or limit a loss to a chosen amount. OANDA cautions that market conditions may prevent execution at the intended amount. OANDA’s US web trading platform page

Trading costs and spreads can change
A convenient interface does not determine the cost of a trade. Exness says spreads may fluctuate and widen with volatility, liquidity, news, economic events, market opening or closing, and instrument type. A browser terminal may be a practical choice if you value access from supported devices and its built-in analysis and order tools cover your needs. Desktop software may be a better fit if you rely on features the browser version omits. In either case, choose based on the specific platform, account eligibility, execution conditions, and tools—not browser access alone.
